The Hit List week 102: (April 3 - April 9)
KAYTRAMINÉ ft. Pharrell Williams - 4EVA: Grammy award winning producer KAYTRANADA and artist Aminé are set to drop a collab album soon called “KAYTRAMINÉ” and they seem to be going by that moniker as a duo (obviously an amalgamation of their stage names). Their debut single has a Pharrell feature (say what!?) and he fits perfectly on Katranada’s funky, clubby production. Also Kay and Aminé have immaculate chemistry on this track and you can easily hear why they’d do a full project together.
Rae Sremmurd - Something I’m Not: Mention: The Alabama bros dropped their new album “Sremm 4 Life” this week and they’re back like they never left. After becoming fathers, the Mannequin Challenge, and solo projects, they have a lot to get off their chest. The standout track “Not So Bad (Leans Gone Cold)” hits hard as it samples Eminem “Stan” and I also loved how they used Old School production on a couple tracks. I also love the track “ADHD” and the one track I’ve had on repeat is “Something I’m Not”. It’s about being true to yourself and not faking for those around you. This track is for all those trying to be their authentic selves at all times.
Drake - Search & Rescue: Drake dropped an unofficial 2 pack this week. The Lil Uzi collab “At The Gates” is from a couple years ago and was premiered on OVO Sound (the Sirius XM channel) so it may get an official drop soon. This track “Search & Rescue” was released on DSPs and finds Singing Drake asking for a chick to come Rescue him. He wants shawty to be patient with him. She has to be able to get money and not always take it from him. She don’t need to be as famous as him. He wants her to take him out the club and off the market. He thinks about her all the time and uses this track to express his love for her.
NBA YoungBoy & Nicki Minaj - WTF: This one looks like it’s going to appear on YB’s upcoming album “Don’t Try This At Home”. It has a 70’s soul vibe and finds Youngboy asking who some of the people around him are. He tells them that they can’t kick it. They better not try him, he’s making millions and does not have time for the fuck shit. Nicki never been with the bullshit. If you cross YB you cross the Queen. If you sleeping on the team they gone pause your dreams. She don’t fuck with the fake, she’s too real.
Curren$y & Jermaine Dupri & 2 Chainz - Off The Lot: After quite a few lead up singles Curren$y and Jermaine Dupri dropped their collab project “For Motivational Use Only, Vol. 1”. It’s a dope project, I loved the TI collab that dropped in the lead up. The album cut “SoSo Jets” is one of my favorites but the creme de la creme was the 2 Chainz collab “Off The Lot”. If there’s one thing Curren$y is gonna rap about, it’s them treez and if there’s two things, it’s gonna be them whips and this track is an ode to the latter. When it comes to cars, Down South might do it best.
Joyner Lucas & Future - Blackout: Joyner Lucas is in album mode. After releasing one of his signature deep/lyrical tracks “Devil’s Work 2” he’s back with a certified slapper for the radio and he got the Toxic God for the feature. JL ain’t hiding his pain no more, he ain’t playing games no more, he might just Blackout. One of Future’s haters just got shot so he’s grinning. He ain’t worried bout nothing because he got millions and if he wasn’t rapping to get it, he’d be trapping to get it. Tough Tune.
Kenny Muney ft. Money Man - In My Bag: Money Bros! Kenny Muney dropped a new project this week called “Blue Muney”, and on my favorite track “In My Bag” he got none other than his Money Brother, Money Man. Beat crazy as Kenny spits that he’s in his bag, never in his feelings. He wants a billion and he knows if he’s gonna get it, he can’t be chiling. He’s a big dog, he don’t be with no kittens. Money Man is making a killing and blowing za. He’s staying consistent because he’s following through. He’s the king of the jungle, he’s running his district. He’s also a real big dog, no kitten in him.
Joey Bada$$ - Fallin: Joey got in his lover man bag on this one. The beat is super soulful (like some Maxwell or D’Angelo). This is the 1st time I think I’ve heard him flow melodically. He’s Fallin for shawty and he don’t wanna catch himself. His main damie got him feelin a type of way and he’s not running from the magnetic attraction.
Mozzy ft. YFN Lucci - WE ACTIVE: Mozzy dropped a new EP this week called “Kollect Kall”. My favorite track “WE ACTIVE” features YFN Lucci, who is currently incarcerated and has been involved in beef with other artists who are also having legal troubles right now. Mozzy must’ve had this one in the tuck and it’s a gem. Guitar strings set the mood as Mozzy decries snitches and Day 1’s that turn they back on him. Ain’t no leakin, no loafin or no lackin in his crew. They millionaires and they’ll still blap a nigga. Lucci wanna get to the top even though he wasn’t given no ladder. He’s got a lot of enemies so he keeps a weapon. He’s about his green and doesn’t trust the money counter so he counts all his cash by hand. Also, there’s a music video for this so they may have recorded the track and the video a minute ago (I think Lucci been locked down over a year).
Ralo ft. Jadakiss - Street Honors: Also incarcerated is ATL spitter Ralo. I feel like he’s be down for over 3 years just for some marijuana. There’s been calls to free him from some of the most powerful figures in the world including Drake and I think Meek looped Robert Kraft in (or my memory could be wildin). Anyways he hasn’t stopped releasing music and this new track with Jada is a certified bop. The beat is epic, and Ralo lets it be known that he don’t want no smoke but he will be respected. He’s made millions off all sorts of work and he’s earned his Street Honors. Kiss will show us how to do it. He made a million out the Buick. Only thing he knows is Do It Big. He was selling Dog Food while the opps was selling mid. If he calls you Brother, he’s loyal to you (as long as you ain’t telling). The only thing he asks in return is to pray for him. If they love ain’t genuine stay away from him.
Millyz ft. Sada James - Fly Gang: Caucasian Sensation Millyz dropped the 6th installment of his “Blanco” series this week. My favorite track is this collab with singer Sada James. The piano keys set the mood as SJ lets it be known she’s on her Fly Gang shit. She got her mind on her money and her money on her mind. She don’t give a fuck what nobody thinks, she’s gonna stay dripped out in designer and diamonds. Millyz gets Chanel for his bitties, bail for his homies. He rides for his family anytime and any place. He’s stacking on the reg, trapping on the reg and he keeps the blower on him because he ain’t trying to be a victim.
Ace Hood, Benny The Butcher & Millyz - Uncomfortable Truth: Florida man Ace Hood is back at it and he got two of today's best lyricists on this one, Benny the B and the aforementioned Millyz. Ace Hood appreciates the journey. He prayed for this moment and he’s truly grateful. He’s got a family and he’s running up the bands to support them. Benny warns the rats and lets the youngins know that the more you go through (pain/overcoming obstacles) the more you know. Millyz is a vet and he knows the game. The window to his soul is tinted ain’t no seeing through him. He don’t want no fake love from groupies. This boom bap beat is something we’ve seen Benny & Millyz murk before but Ace Hood was super impressive on this track that sounds a lot different from most of his catalog.
NF & Cordae - CAREFUL: Rapper NF dropped a new project this week called “HOPE”. He’s a rapper’s rapper and he puts on a display of top tier lyricsm throughout the project discussing everything from his relationship with his mother to past romances. My favorite track is the Cordae collab “CAREFUL”. NF’s flow is special. He’s passionate as he expresses his gratitude for the life he lives. He’s balling outta control, so much so that he told his dad to retire and got his Grandma a crib. He knows he can’t take the money with him when he dies so he’s spending it on those he loves the most. Cordae is a millionaire and he’s still taking risks. His life used to be a mess but he’s doing better now. He still likes to get lifted and sip the Henny to relieve the stress but he also got the money coming in large loads.
Maino - Vibe With Me: The Brooklyn Bully is back with a new track and this one samples Busta’s smash hit “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See”. He comes from the dark blocks of NYC, yo and he’s hustling and grinding for a billi(on), yo. All his niggas fly and they winning. He just looking for a shawty to match his fly, slide in the V and vibe with him.
Kenzo Balla - Emotional Damage: NY Driller Kenzo Balla dropped a new project this week called “The Year Of The Balla”. Super dope project with some certified Drill anthems. The lovey dovey songs really stood out to me. “Emotional Damage” finds KB expressing his true feelings for his shawty. He thinks about her all the time. He wants to take trips around the world and also just cruise around the city in the whip. If loving her is a crime, he’s willing to do the time.
Yung Bleu - Kissing On Your Tattoos: The other YB dropped a new track this week, and it’s dedicated to the ladies that are inked up. YB promises he can do it better than shawty’s man. She’s not his type but he’s gonna beat cheeks anyway and while he does, he’s gonna be kissing on her tattoos.
Lougotcash ft. Sada Baby - Mike Larry: NY’s lougotcash dropped a new album this week called “Back to the Basics”. Dope project. I still have his track with Bobby Shmurda “FROM TIME” in heavy rotation. My favorite track from the new drop is “Mike Larry” with Sada Baby (it’s a play on Mike Lowrey, Will Smith’s character from Bad Boys). LGC got addies in his cup and he single as fuck. He used to live with his mom and now he got a million dollar condo. Sada be smashing all the bitties. He don’t mind stretch marks and ain’t the biggest fan of BBL’s. He wakes up, throws on his chains, and tucks the stick, then cruises the city in his drop top.
Kiana Ledé ft. Ella Mai - Jealous: What a collab! KL and EM sung their hearts out on this one. Kiana ain’t never been good at sharing, but with her bae, she’s practicing patience. She sees the way the other bitties be looking at him and it makes her feel a way. She ain’t telling him to drop them other bitties (but actually yes she is lol). And she ain’t saying he gotta commit to her but keeping it real, she’s Jealous. Ella ain’t never been good at hiding her feelings. She’s been trying her best to hold her true feelings in and mans be laying that player shit on her thick. She sees the way the bitties look at him and she promises that whenever they see him, they gon’ see her too.
Blac Youngsta - Hunt You: Memphis’ own Blac Youngsta dropped a new project this week called “Blac Sheep”. My favorite track “Hunt You” is like a Down South Drill anthem. BY promises never to chase a chick and to always put pressure on the opps. He watches his rearview and watches for the snakes and fakes. He prays to the Lord for protection and to keep the demons away.
Deebaby - Good Day: Another week and another great find on the Apple Music playlist. This one comes from Houston’s Deebaby. “Good Day” has a stupid crazy beat and finds DB describing the ideal day for him. Pour up some drank, hop in the whip, then go run them bands up.
