Luh Tyler - First Show: Florida’s Luh Tyler has blown up over the past year with some viral tracks on social media. Recently, he signed to Atlantic and dropped his debut album. He’s back with this new track and it’s a certified bop and my favorite track to drop this week. The beat slaps as he raps about his unique flow and the bitties. Niggas be hating on his motion but he don’t let it phase him. He whips fast cars, smokes the finest Mary Jane, and runs the money up.
Lloyd Banks - Opened Gates: One of the greatest lyricists of all time dropped “Pieces of My Pain” the third installment of his “Course of the Inevitable” series. This is my favorite project of the week and the bars and beats are among the best of the year. “Voices” is probably my favorite track but I also love “Opened Gates” where he lets it be known that respect is earned when you give it, and that the Gates Open for a chosen few so never quit. Super dope track, you gotta check it out “COTI 3: Pieces of My Pain” and these highlights:
LSD (ft. Vado)
Voices
Red Alert (ft. 38 Spesh & Tony Yayo)
Daddy’s Little Girl
The Weeknd ft. Future - Double Fantasy: Canadian Megastar, The Weekend, is executive producing and starring in a new HBO show called “The Idol” that was co-created by “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson. It’s already received some bad press as the initial vision of the show was scrapped for something more edgy (allegedly) and saw Abel throwing shots at Rolling Stone on the show and IRL. He just dropped this new track with Future Hendrix and it’s the most Weeknd-y song ever. Funky synth vibes, Abel sings to his main damie and Future spits a verse to his shawty. Check out the video too. We don’t get a lot of good music videos these days and this one’s special.
NBA Youngboy - No Lease: YB finally dropped his new album “Don’t Try This at Home” and it’s a beast. 26 tracks, everything from Spin-The-Block anthems to melodic songs. My favorite track is “No Lease” which has a soulful beat with Top talking ‘bout getting money and stopping the opps. All his cars paid for (No Leases). He’s always longed for a family (which could explain why he’s the Vice President of the No Pull Out Gang). Other Standouts from “Don’t Try This At Home”:
WTF (with Nicki Minaj)
RearView (ft. Mariah the Scientist)
Cold Killers
E-40 - Front Row 40: OG E-40 is a whole ass legend. I remember the 1st time I heard him was on “Baller Blockin’” the title track of a Cash Money movie and the track featured most of Cash Money’s roster including Juvie & Weezy. It was a shock when he went to see his beloved Warriors in Sacramento this month and was kicked out. It must’ve had him feeling like we need to put some respect on his name so he made a track celebrating his Front Row status. His feet always touch the hardwood, the players and other celebs show him love and he always has his queen with him. He’s a positive role model that we should all aspire to be like and in no world should he ever be kicked out of a game. Put some respek on Front Row 40’s name.
Swizz Beatz ft. Jadakiss, Benny The Butcher & Scar Lip- Take Em Out: Swizzy dropped a new EP this week called “Hip Hop 50, Vol. 2” celebrating 50 years of the genre and featuring legends in the game. My favorite track brings together 3 artists of different eras (and all 3 have bars for days). The beat is a Swizz special (boom, boom, bap, bap, boom bap…you know the cadence). Jadakiss throws some shots at Mumble Rap and compares the corner to the classroom. The Butcher don’t got friends, only business associates. All he knows is the money talk. Scar Lip busts guns but she’s still a neck breaker when she walks by. These New Yorkers don’t fuck around.
Red Cafe, Capella Grey & Fabolous - Don’t Vibe & Tell: This one’s about playing your position. It’s the Say Less anthem. Smooth track that encourages lovers to keep it low key and enjoy the vacations, good liquor, and vibes. Capella Gray sings the hook and Red and Fab lay verses encouraging their ladies to stay in their lane and they’ll do the same.
Killer Mike ft. El-P & thankugoodsir - Don’t Let The Devil: So this one is an official Killer Mike single even though it features his Run The Jewels bandmate El-P. Mike is into OPP, sippin sizzurp, and eatin sherbert. He encourages us to keep our eyes on the prize and Don’t Let The Devil coerce us. El-P asks The Lord to bless us then tells us to shut the fuck up and put our hands in the air (Amen)!
Ralo ft. Rowdy Rebel - Prison Everyday: Ralo dropped a new project this week called 97 months (I think that might be how long his prison sentence is, 8 years and a month) all for some trees. The project is dope and my favorite track is this Rowdy Rebel collab “Prison Everyday”. The beat is special (especially the piano keys). Ralo talks about moving bricks out the studio and getting caught with the work on a plane. He misses his friends that are locked down and it blows his mind that he’s locked up too. He knows cats go to prison everyday and the part he hates the most is lying to his mama and his partners and telling them he’s straight (when he isn’t). Rowdy sends pictures to his peoples so they don’t stress about his well-being. He gives game to his youngins so they don’t get jammed up.
Nicki Minaj ft. Kim Petras - Alone: Nicki been active! She’s back again with recent Grammy winner Kim Petras for this flip of Alice Deejay’s smash hit “Better Off Alone”. Kim doesn’t want be alone, she wants to feel her bae’s touch and feel a rush. Nicki is a trendsetter, never imitating. She got the cakes and her bae is ready for a tasting.
Iann dior - My Turn: Iann Dior dropped a new project called “leave me where you found me”. It’s full of his signature Emo/Pop-Rock Rap slaps. My favorite track is “My Turn” which has more of a Hip-Hop beat. He talks about a love lost. He didn’t want the basic bittie no more so he upgraded to a baddie. His old work didn’t even get a preview of what his life is like now (big ballin). They said he should wait his turn but he wants it all right now. He paved the way and now the opps tryna jack the swag.
Armani White & A$AP Ferg - SILVER TOOTH. - Armani White dropped a new track with Ferg that samples Bow Wow’s “Take Ya Home” which was produced by The Neptunes. Armani used to have a Silver Tooth when he was just a pup and now he got killers who got shotties with the pump. He surfs the beat with expert precision. Ferg got VVS diamonds and 24 karat gold. He got diamonds in his teeth and his socks and his lineup is crispier than Tory Lanez’ pops.
Tiësto & A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie - Chills (LA Hills): EDM DJ & Superproducer, Tiesto, dropped a new project this week called “DRIVE” and it’s one of the best drops of the week. One of the only projects I listened from front to back, no skips. I really love “The Business” which initially dropped a few years ago. My favorite album cut is “Chills (LA Hills)” with A Boogie. Club/Dance beat with A Boogie’s melodic vocals letting shawty know that he knows that she knows what he wants and what he needs. They speed through the LA Hills in a Lambo headed to a party. Life’s short and he’s trying to vibe out.
IDK - Mr. Police: IDK has really shown his range on the variety of tracks he’s dropped over the past year. He gets into his socially conscious bag on this one. He uses a melodic flow to spit about law enforcement and the static between him and them. It’s a downtempo track that has piano keys and strings that give it a jazzy vibe. It’s like a highbrow, neo-soul “Fuck The Police”.
Heembeezy ft. Fivestardjay - Rock On: Heembeezy had the perfect single drop last week “Out The Gutter” because after hearing that (and purchasing) I saw he dropped a new album this week called “Really Heem Vol. 1” and I had to check it out. Super dope, it has that New West Coast sound throughout. My favorite track “Rock On” has the best beat on the project. Heem likes chicks with BBLs and he don’t even smash, he just gets the top. His motto is “Get Money and Fuck Bitches”. Djay’s chick is a 10 and he puts Chanel on her feet. He just wants her to come home and put the money in his hand (5 bands to be exact).
Tee Grizzley & Skilla Baby - B&E Pt. 1: Tee Grizzley has become this generation’s king of storytelling. Last week he dropped a collab track with Skilla Baby called “Drop The Lo” and he’s back this week with B&E Pt. 1 (Breaking and Entering for the uninitiated). It’s another storytelling track where these two gents go back and forth during the commission of a crime. TG’s been giving us interesting perspectives like this because I don’t remember hearing a ton of tracks describing how a crime unfolds (usually after the fact). He’s been dropping these since his Robbery series (maybe even before then). These 2 may have a collab album coming soon.
Jdot Breezy - For The Win: Florida spitter Jdot Breezy dropped a Deluxe of his most recent project “DON’T FWM LATER”. My favorite of the 9 new tracks is For The Win. He’s in the fast lane taking the lead so watch his moves. He’s never quittin and now he’s making all the money (and he’s spending some too). Sometimes he falls, but when he does, he gets up and keeps it pushing. Whenever he’s shooting, he’s shooting For The Win.
BlueBucksClan - Supposed To: The Cali duo dropped a new loosie this week. Beat crazy as they rap about pouring up and getting money. They get all the bad bitties and when they pull up to Laker games they get VIP entry. The smoke Za never Reggie and they’ll do the dash if shit gets thick.
OG DAYV - Surrounded By the Smoke: Cali artist OG DAYV dropped a new EP this week called “Purple Phaze”. My favorite track is “Surrounded By the Smoke” where OD admits to losing his best eater but he’s surrounded by baddies at the party he’s currently at and it’s hard to choose just one. He knows the money comes and goes but his wavyness is a constant.
Rellyski - Top Of the Morning: Another week, another great find on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. It’s the Top of The Morning and Relly is up, getting to the money. He’s staying focused so no one will stop his wave. He’s coming for the racks and heading straight for the top.
Bun B & Statik Selektah ft. Haile Supreme - Catch A Vibe: Bun B & Statik Selektah released a 420 Deluxe of their recent project “TrillStatik 2” in collaboration with marijuana growhouse/dispensary Archive. My favorite Deluxe track is “Catch a Vibe” with Haile Supreme. Chill beat with a hi-hat loot, Bun is on a major laid back vibe. No spinning the block, no drilling, because he ain’t on that type of time. He chillin with the fam blowing big. Round after round, spliff after spliff, he gonna burn it down, so pass him the Piff. Haile lays some melodic vocals and he ain’t on no bullshit, he’s just trying to Catch a Vibe.
DCG Brothers - Thru The Town: Another gem I found on the Apple Music New Hip Hop playlist. The Bros always strapped and all the big booty bitties slide in they DMs. This beat super crazy the way it drops out then comes back. They warn the opps about coming Thru The Town or they might end up dead on the ground.
Pimp Tobi ft. Ralfy The Plug - Say Cheese: Pimp Tobi dropped a new project this week called “Pimpin Since The Playground 2” and it’s one of the best drops of the week. He starts off with a banger of a track with “Since The Playground”. I was really hooked when I heard this collab track with Pastor Ralfy (the late great Drakeo The Ruler’s brother). “Say Cheese” has a West Coast snap beat and PT promises to leave holes in the opps white tee (like Swiss Cheese). He still outside, he ain't hard to find. He’ll make a nigga famous like Say Cheese (the blog site) . When Ralfy gets paid for a verse he lays it the same night. He ain’t change up on nobody, his features are still the same price. He gets head from all the bops, his only request: no teeth. Check out “Pimpin Since The Playground 2” and these standouts:
Since The Playground
No Love (ft. PayJayee)
Star Struck (ft. PayZell)
Bussdown
BiC Fizzle ft. LG Malique - Ride Fa Mine: New 1017 artist BiC FIzzle dropped a new loosie this week with LG Malique. It’s about loyalty. Loyalty is everything to these guys, blood don’t mean shit. They gon’ ride for theirs and they ask if you gonna ride for yours?
