The Hit List week 108: (May 15 - May 21)
Bizzy Crook - Luck You: Bizzy dropped a new loosie this week called “Luck You” but the repeated refrain through the track is actually “Fuck you” and it samples the Jamie Foxx joke where he harmonizes the phrase. He dedicates this to someone he fell out with and he lets them know there’s no coming back. When BC says fuck you, it’s fuck you for life.
Quin NFN & 03 Greedo - House Call: Texas’ Quin NFN dropped a new loosie with 03 Greedo (who spent some time in Texas recently). “House Call” is an opp anthem and the guys let the opps know that if they don’t wanna pop out, Quin and 03 have no problem making a house call and running down on they ass.
Belly ft. Gucci Mane - De La Hoya: Belly finally dropped “Mumble Rap 2” this week and it’s everything we could have asked for and more. I love the Nav collab “Just Like Me” and the Gucci Mane track “De La Hoya” is a certified slap. When it came on and I heard Gucci, I thought the album had finished and Apple Music put it on shuffle but au contraire, it was the best song on “Mumble Rap 2”. And the message is a simple one: the guys beat the pussy up like De La Hoya (this gotta be like a triple entendre). Check out “Mumble Rap 2”
Lil Bean - I Wish: Fresh cut Bnr! I saw this one on YouTube when it dropped and the first thing I noticed was Lil Bean cut his hair (he left a rat tail dread in the back). This one is dedicated to the fallen homies. He be wishing he can fly away and be with the homies on the other side and he also wishes that he could bring them back.
Summer Walker - Mind Yo Mouth: Summer dropped a new project this week called “CLEAR 2: SOFT LIFE” and it’s labeled an EP but it’s longer than a lot of the full length albums that drop. The Cole intro track was a masterpiece as was the collab with Childish. My favorite track “Mind Yo Mouth” sounds like a live performance and it finds Summer lamenting all those that tell her to Mind Her Mouth in fear that she might upset her man, she might bruise his ego. But she’s not into placating, she wants a real man and not a real nigga. She’s not his mama, and If he's gonna be with her, he’s gonna have to get up off his ass and put in some work.
NxWorries - Daydreaming: Anderson .Paak and producer Knxwledge (collectively known as NxWorries) dropped a new track this week. “Daydreaming” is downtempo, smooth, southful and finds AP singing to his main damie. They been up all night trying all kinds of things. He’s been Daydreaming about her since he met her. He just wants a kiss from her to know that it’s real. She’s the love of his life, the Bonnie to his Clyde.
KATRAMINÉ (Kaytranada & Aminé) ft. Snoop Dogg - EYE: I was fiending for this project and it finally dropped this week. Grammy award winning Canadian Producer KAYTRANADA linked with spitter Aminé for a collab album titled “KATRAMINÉ” (an amalgamation of their stage names). Super dope project with an eclectic mix of sounds. I love the opening track “Who He Iz” and my favorite track is “EYE” with Snoop. It has synth keys accented with bells ringing in the background. The guys talk about smoking trees and fucking. They know that they gotta do for others but sometimes you gotta focus on number one (I or EYE).
Wiz Khalifa - What Would I Do: Wiz dropped a loosie this week (seems like he’s constantly pumping out tracks and features). Beat is hypnotic, funky, and Wiz uses a melodic flow to ask “What Would I Do?” without his bottom boo. She about 5’2”, knows how to roll the Za up, and he loves when she comes through. He doesn’t know where he’d be without her.
Juice Wrld - No Good: RIP Juice! This week marked the 5th anniversary of his seminal album “Goodbye & Good Riddance" and a Deluxe version of the album was released with 3 new tracks. My favorite of the new ones is “No Good”. It finds JW warning us about the gold diggers. He suggests we cut them off with the big scissors. All he ever wanted was love & money, and with that comes the ladies. He’s down for the good ones but the bad ones gotta go.
H.E.R. - The Journey: Multi-hyphenate H.E.R. recently appeared in the trailer for the new Color Purple movie. She also dropped a new track dedicated to those on a mission (it's also a track that was made for the NBA Playoffs. It’ll probably play at some point during the Finals). You’ll go through hell but those who keep pushing make it through. For those that have that fire inside them that can’t be put out, it’ll be a hell of a ride.
B-Lovee - Tiro: NY Driller B-Lovee dropped a new project this week called “Sorry 4 The Wait…” Dope project, I love the 2Rare collab that was dropped in the lead up. My favorite album cut is “Tiro” which has B-Lovee going in on a Drill beat with a Latin twist to it.
Post Malone - Mourning: Posty dropped a new track this week and it’s a motherloving vibe! The sun kills his buzz (that’s why they call it Mourning). He doesn’t wanna sober up and he has the strong urge to pour up. He has a lot of shit to say (and couldn’t fit it all in the chorus) so he uses this track to get some of it off his chest.
Peezy & BabyTron ft. Babyface Ray - Reaper: The soundtrack for the upcoming FAST X movie dropped and it’s packed with the hottest up & comers in the game. My favorite track is this absolute slapper from 3 of the D’s finest Big Ghetto, Tron & Face. The frenetic beat is a change of pace for the guys but the track still has the Detroit-Type Beat bounce. All 3 guys have no problem flowing on the uptempo beat. They talk that money talk, that luxury car talk, and that smashing baddies talk.
Symba - Top G: Symba has had a banner month. He had a track drop that the NBA had him cook up to mark the start of the playoffs (and it was featured on ESPN). Then he dropped a studio freestyle this week that acted as an open letter to Ja Morant (thoughts & prayers). Now he dropped some of that real Symba shit. This new track “Top G” is braggadocious and finds the Cali spitter talking that slick talk. He’s sleeping on one hundred thousand and moonwalking through four hundred ounces (of herb probably). All those he came up with didn’t make it and he’s trying his best not to fall into the matrix or catch any cases.
Connie Diiamond - Underdog Season: Connie Diiamond exploded on the scene with her flip of Luda’s smash “Move Bitch”. Then she dropped a collab track with Dame Dolla. Now she’s dropped her first project “Underdog Szn” and it’s a showcase of her skill and talent. My favorite track is the 1st track “Underdog Season”. On it, CD fills her cup up as she toasts to more money, more commas, and more bling. She wants the soft life but these munch ass niggas ain’t got nothing for her. She switches effortlessly from a melodic flow to hard bars.
Tobe Nwigwe & Nas ft. Jacob Banks - On My Soul: Tobe & Nas on one track? Super flames. This track has a triumphant almost soundtrack feel (checks notes, this is on the upcoming soundtrack for the new Transformers flick). Uptempo, the guys put it On (they) Soul that nobody can play them like no hoes. They’re animals, always trill, and they never go anywhere without the stick. Their money is turned up to the max and every time they step out, jaws drop.
Elcamino & 38 Spesh - You Made It: Elcamino & 38 Spesh dropped a new track for the Boom-Bapheads. These kings are well traveled on the road to success. They want the jewels and the queens. They make sacrifices to treat they’re families. And because they’re making money in their sleep, they know they’ve made it.
Smoke DZA ft. Shelley - Just Weed: DZA dropped a new project this week called “Worldwide Smoke Session, Vol. 2” Super dope album, I loved the lead up track “House of Blues” with Wiz, KRIT, Curren$y and Girl Talk, and my favorite album cut is the Shelley (DRAM) collab “Just Weed”. The guys were teens when they first inhaled the ganj. The pills and the lean are nice, but for now they only got the weed on them and they’re getting higher than Bol Bol.
PRICE & Kota the Friend - FLAWS: East Coast-West Coast link up on this one. The Inland Empire’s PRICE (of Audio Push) and NY’s Kota the Friend dropped “FLAWS” this week, a jazzy track that finds the guys rapping about their broken days, when their backs were against the wall. All they ask of their loved ones is not to get lost in their FLAWS. They’re trying their best.
Niko G4 - Even Exchange: Another week, another great find on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. This week it comes from Niko G4 with “Even Exchange”. It’s one for the ladies. He ain’t worried bout her last and she ain’t worried about his past. He be having her wetter than a hurricane all day long. He wants to sail across oceans, fly across continents and get her whatever she wants. Bags of gas, champagne by the glass, Celine bags and more. He gave her real love and she gave it right back, an Even Exchange.
Chris Webby - Kratos: Chris Webby is a rapper’s rapper. Yes he’s white and yes he did (allegedly) date Halle Berry for a minute but he should be known for his dedication to his craft. He’s back at it again and the song title pays homage to the main character of the mega-hit game “God of War” (which a nigga just beat today **pops collar**). His bars are indeed God Tier, and he uses Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythological references to address the opps and haters. In the world of rap gods, he is Kratos.
