The Hit List week 109: (May 22 - May 28)
Lil Durk & Chief Wuk - Big Dawg: Lil Durk dropped his new album “Almost Healed” this week and it’s a special one. With an opening track featuring spoken word by Alicia Keys and features from Future, Kodak, 21 Savage and J. Cole, it’s easy to see why this is one of the highest-selling Hip-Hop albums this year. My favorite track is “Big Dawg” with Chief Wuk. With an ATL Jacob beat, it’s a super vibe. The repeated refrain “Why Would I Lie?” sauces it up too. Durk talks that stick talk and that rich talk. If you see his drip you gon’ ask “Where you get that shit from?” Wuk is a problem with that trappin. He got a reputation in the trenches, he don’t never miss. These two certified Big Dawgs.
Rico Cartel - Can’t Be Fcked With: The strings give this one a cinematic feel over the Detroit-type beat. Rico is him and he can’t be fucked with. He ran the bucks up and now he’s got VVS diamonds. He sips Wockie like it’s coffee. He don’t say too much, he knows they see him shining. He Can’t Be Fucked With.
MoneyBagg Yo - Ocean Spray: Bagg is set to drop his new project “Hard To Love” soon (he was courteous and let Taylor Swift drop this week). This week he did bless us with a single “Ocean Spray” (which according to the streets leaked years ago, albeit a different version). It sounds like it samples a Three 6 Mafia track and it’s the ultimate track to cruise to. Mellow vibes, Bagg is juiced up like Ocean Spray, he’s poled up and he’s looking to have fun today. Can’t wait for this album to drop.
Honey Bxby - Get Your Lick Back: Another week, another great find on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. This week it comes from Honey Bxby with a track that samples Mtume’s smash hit “JuicyFruit” (Most famously sampled by Biggie on “Juicy”). HB been dealing with a sucka ass nigga who has her extremely fucked up. Mans thinks he could run around with other tings and expect her to hold it down. She been watching his moves and she ain’t having it. She advises dude, if he wants her, he can come get it back in blood because she ain’t folding for no one.
Rory & REASON - Sobering Thoughts From the Mondrian: So Rory Farrell is the R&B Khaled? That’s what the streets saying. As a fan of the podcaster over the years this is an album he’s been teasing for quite some time. He’s been an A&R, managed artists, and on his debut album “I Thought It’d Be Different” he really evident that he has an ear for quality music. It’s one of the best albums of the year and it actually sounds cohesive (unlike most albums of this era). I loved the whole thing but the closing track with TDE’s Reason was a cherry on top. The beat sounds like it was custom made for (redacted) and Reez smokes it. Do yourself a favor and check out “I Thought It’d be Different”. No Skips.
Lil Darius & Skilla Baby - Been Turnt: Detroit in the building! Over a Helluva beat, Darius let’s it be known he Been Turnt. He always knew he’d be rich, he had a dream (like Dr. King). He don’t mess with broke chicks and by 19 he’ll be 2 Million up like Peezy. Skilla got that fire so be careful or you gon’ get burnt. He don’t care about the fame, only the cash and what comes with it.
Kodak Black ft. GorditoFlo - Flirting With Death: Yak dropped a new project this week called “Pistolz & Pearlz”. Dope project, with an eclectic mix of sounds & vibes. He uses the early part to showcase some of up & coming artists. My favorite track “Flirting With Death” features the Spanish vocals of GorditoFlo. Kodak uses a unique melodic flow on this one and it fits perfectly with the beat. It’s an opp anthem. Bill trusts his AK but he doesn’t trust his bae. He been thuggin since a jit and loves to play with bangers. To get the opps he gonna be Flirting with the grave. I don’t know what GorditoFly was spitting, but I guarantee it got something to do with going upside the opps heads en Español.
Khary - Wannabe: I love tracks like these. Motivation Music. This is another one I found on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. Rhode Island’s Khary knows that what he really wants to be is right in front of him. All he gotta do is stay solid and hold on. I like the self deprecation (he says he’s bald looking like Frozone #bars). He knows sometimes it gets cloudy, but he won’t walk around pouting. He’s gonna live his life to the fullest and keep striving to be what he wants to be.
Fmb Dz ft. Sada Baby - Double Headed Dragon: Detroit spitter Fmb Dz dropped a new album this week called “P-Rock Baby”. I originally heard Dz on the most recent Nef the Pharaoh project so I had to check his album out. My favorite track is the collab with fellow Detroiter Sada Baby, “Double Headed Dragon”. This track dropped months ago but I first heard it this week. Beat crazy as Dz and Sada talk that big money talk. With that money comes haters and they keep the G-locks if anybody wanna get the party started. They some real steppas willing to die behind they name.
Diddy, City Girls & Fabolous - Act Bad: The Emperor of Bops is back with a strong candidate for song of the Summer. He got the summertime queens, City Girls (which includes his shorty wop Yung Miami) and summertime shooter, Fabolous, for this song that’ll be spinning on the radio non-stop. Diddy & Caresha even dropped an accompanying mini-vlog with them living out some of the lyrics. If you look good, Act Bad.
Rory Fresco ft. Skilla Baby - Foreign Magazines: Double the Rory this week as we got an album from Rory Fresco called “Fantasy Camp”. My favorite track is this Skila Baby collab “Foreign Magazines” (I’ve had this one on repeat). It has a Detroit-type beat with an epic video game vibe to it (like something outta Zelda). Rory talks about boning the freaks and sitting courtside. He’s gonna run the numbers up until it costs 100K for his booking fee and 50K for just a hook. He getting hella money currently, and if you ain’t going in the same direction as his team you going the wrong way. Bad bitties wanna chill wit Skilla and all the bitties know he keeps it P. He can’t be put in a box, he’s got 6 flows. And even though his temper’s short, his money’s long.
Sexyy Red & Nicki Minaj - Pound Town 2: St Louis’ Sexxy Red got the Queen to hop on this Tay Keith beat and talk that nasty talk. Red just left Pound Town, her nigga just dicked her down and ate her out. She also raps the colors of her nether region (her coochie pink, her bootyhole is brown). Now she in Miami trying to get her cooter stretched (and she likes the way the Dread Heads do it). Nicki wants fish and grits and sometimes she throws hissy fits. She doesn't mind jerking it with her tits. She also doesn't mind slurping or twerking on the stick. She likes eaters, so she stays waxed down front and back.
Hunxho ft. Lil Dallas - WYA: This generation's auto-tune king is back with another project. Hunxho dropped “4 Days in LA” this week, his second project in the span of a year. My favorite track is this Lil Dallas collab “WYA”. The guys are asking the opps, Where You At? They let them know that they looking for em, and they should Pull Up or Pop Out. They guys will slide, and when they see the opp, they say There He Go then hit em in the back.
GloRilla - Lick or Sum: This is another one that’s gonna play heavy on the radio and in every club. Rising star Glorilla sampled the Three 6 Mafia classic “Slob on my Knob” on this new track “Lick or Sum”. She advises her dude to lick on her clit and make her cream. He got his nose all in her crack and depending on his performance, she might make her booty clap. She reminds him that she don’t wanna feel teeth, only tongue.
Cochise - EUROPEAN DREAM: Cochise dropped a new project this week called “NO ONE’S NICE TO ME”. My favorite track is “EUROPEAN DREAM” where he assures his shawty that he not messing with the groupies. He’s freaky, he puts his finger in her booty (and she likes it). He’s feeling golden, he’s iced up, and he put all his niggas in position to be iced up and caked up too. He’s chosen.
Logic - Juice II: I feel like Logic retired twice so far but I guess the art lives in him and when he cooks up some heat he has to share it with the people. The Juice II” video shows him cheffing up beats on the infield at Yankee Stadium while Aaron Judge is hanging around during batting practice. Perfect city for the bars “I got the Juice like 2pac, I got the Juice like Bishop”. His Rollie and Pinky ring are super heavy but he’s been eating great so it should be no problem. He proceeds to unleash his machine gun flow where he just goes bar after bar with both that rich talk and that started from the bottom talk. Nice balance.
Kari Faux & Jazz Cartier - MONEY ANGELS: Kari Faux has a track that I never skip when it comes up in shuffle “Chattin Shit” so anytime she drops something new, I run to it. This week it was a new album called “REAL BITCHES DON’T DIE” (which seems to be homage to UGK’s “Trill Niggas Don’t Die”). Dope project, my favorite track is the Jazz Cartier collab “MONEY ANGELS”. Kari been getting paper because she got some Money Angels, that be working in her favor. She’s blessed and highly favored. Jazz got him a sweet one and he knows heaven got some bitties too. He asks the Lord to put an end to all the lames. Him and his guys in the club screaming “Money ain’t a thang” as they look for some booty and some brains.
K CAMP - Even Steven: Camp dropped an EP this week called “Spin The Block”, 6 tracks of straight crack. I actually caught the video for “Even Steven” on YouTube before the project dropped. It has a soulful snap (clap) beat. He’s the wave now and he’s been sold since Day 1. He’s locked in with his guys and he got the city on his back. And he be getting titties flashed at him at every show.
Jay Worthy & Roc Marciano ft. A$AP Ant & Bart Oatmeal - My Own Two: This that real P shit. Jay Worthy & Roc Marciano dropped a new collab album called “Nothing Bigger Than The Program” and it’s nothing but Playa vibes throughout. My favorite track features A$AP Ant and Bart Oatmeal. It has a laid back, funky beat and finds the guys talking bout a day in the life. They dripped out, getting money, sipping and linking with the fam. They smoke purple and move the white to get to the green. Perfect track to cruise in the whip to.
Monaleo - Cologne Song: Monaleo dropped a new album this week called “Where The Flowers Don’t Die”. I was impressed by her range. She switched effortlessly from bars to melodies and the project had quite a few different vibes (all dope). My favorite track is “Cologne Song” and as a fragrance man myself, I felt this one. Mona appreciates a man who smells great. She repeatedly asks her dude “What kind of cologne are you wearing?” She ain’t smelled nothing like that before, and now she wants some more. Whatever it is, it got her feeling some type of way.
Cash Trill ft. Zeus TG - Righteous: Brooklyn’s Cash Trill dropped a Deluxe of his “Cash Only 4” album this week. My favorite Deluxe track is “Righteous” with Zeus TG. It has a NY Drill beat and the guys admit to being Demons, but they’re also Righteous. The music they make is timeless. They warn the opps to keep calm or they gon’ start a riot. They big chop totin’ and they trying not to go off.
