The Hit List week 110: (May 29 - June 4)
Baby Keem ft. Kendrick Lamar - The Hillbillies: Big Protein! Baby Keem and his big cuz are back with another A1 track. This one has a soul beat mixed with a club beat-light. They go back and forth talking that baller talk (they don’t buy much, they buy land). They don’t do normal things. Keem likes his girls plain jane (and has for a while) and he’s immersed in his Playstation. K. Dot is best dressed and too high-profile to be accessed. He’s a big fish and his opps are sardines. Some say there are subs thrown on this one and that the track sounds a lot like tracks by the artist that may have gotten subbed. IYKYK.
Metro Boomin, Future & Lil Uzi Vert - All The Way Live: Metro Boomin delivered a masterpiece with the “Across The Spiderverse” soundtrack. Featuring heavyweights in the game (on multiple tracks at that) this project will be in heavy rotation. My favorite track features Pluto and Baby Pluto “All The Way Live”. The message is simple: The type of time they’re on is All The Way Live, 7 Days a week, 365 days a year.
Latto ft. Cardi B - Put It On Da Floor Again: The original track was already going viral for the “Rip me out the plastic, I’m feeling brand new” part with hella Tik-Toks of people getting ripped outta plastic. Then Latto went and got Big Bardi for the remix (as she’s becoming the go-to remix artist for rising superstar female rappers). They both bar the track up with the utmost bravado and the accompanying video is one you should check out.
Central Cee & Dave - Sprinter: These 2 UK spitters dropped a collab EP this week called “Split Decision”. Central Cee has had the girlies in a tizzy for quite some time and the streets are saying him and Santan Dave were born a day apart (which is why one of the tracks is called “Our 25th Birthday”). Dope EP, I loved the track they made a video for “Sprinter”. It has the UK Drill backbone with a Latin twist. The talking about their down ass chicks and stuffing all the thooters in the Sprinter. They keep the stick tucked just in case and they spend money like there’s no tomorrow.
The Weeknd, Madonna & Playboi Carti - Popular: The Weeknd’s new show the “Idol” premieres this week and he dropped another track in the lead up. This one features Pop Icon and superduper megastar, Madonna, and one of Hip-Hop’s Rockstars, Playboi Carti. The track had me hooked from the start. Beat sounds like something Pharrell would cook up. Weekend sings about an It Girl. She has dreams to be Popular, and she’ll do anything to get there. Carti handles the bridge and Madonna handles the second verse and talks about the fame, and not selling her soul. This track is a fucking VIBE!
Moneybagg Yo ft. Future - Keep It Low: Bagg finally dropped his new project “Hard To Love” this week and it’s special. Dope features and quite an assortment of vibes. My favorite track is the Future collab “Keep It Low”. This one is a slapper and Moneybagg talks about his exotic whips, bad bitties, and celebrating his accomplishments. All Future’s chicks request toxic meat. When he brings the women into his circle, he advises them not to speak on business and instead, Keep It Low. The women look up to him like God and he tells them to hold in their tears when they are riding in his Rolls Royce Phantom.
Hit Boy x Big Hit - Reckless & Ratchet: This is a certified bop! At first I was like who is this old nigga Hitboy collabing with and within seconds I realized that it’s his pops. Apparently he did some time and now that he’s free, he’s getting his fuck on. Big Hit said he wanna play a lil hide and seek and open her backdoor and take a peek (BARS!). He tryna run all through her throat, he promised he wouldn’t be so Reckless and Ratchet but he can’t control himself (and even mentions some famous ladies by name). He’s a superfreak by nature like Rick James. Hit-boy spits some bars too and you can tell the apple don’t far fall from the tree.
Kid Cudi - PORSCHE TOPLESS: Cudders is back with a loosie and the title refers to a droptop Porsche (unless it refers to some bitties in the regular Porsche with the melons out… or both). The track has sum triumphant horns that give it a video game soundtrack vibe (like something off Zelda). Cudi is geeked, getting live, he can hardly speak. He walks amongst the stars and and da bitties think he’s groovy. He is grateful to the Good Lord when they let him grab their booties.
Toosii - FWLM: Toossii dropped a new project this week called “NAUJOUR” full of tracks with his signature sound. My favorite track is this Hitmaka produced track that is an acronym for Fuck Wit Like Me. Laidback vibes, he asks one of his ladies, who does she fuck with that can compare to him? He knows he’s a dog but she knows he’s a real one. He likes to sip some Don Julio then get some backseat action in his Rolls Royce Wraith.
Machine Gun Kelly - Pressure: He’s rapping again! After dropping a Punk Rock album (with Weezy on two tracks), he’s back to bars. He’s been dropping these viral freestyles and now he’s back with an official loosie. He’s been on a long journey and the diamonds he’s rocking are representative of the pressure he endured (and survived). He believes God had to put him through hell so he could learn a lesson. He dedicates this track to his fallen homie Money T and vows to keep his name alive.
DaBoii & The Mekanix ft. Mistah F.A.B. - What You Smoking On?: SOBxRBE’s Da Boii and producers The Mekanix dropped a collab album this week called “Soakin Game”. I really like the track “Go Shit” and my favorite track is the Mistah F.A.B. collab “What You Smoking On”. It has a bouncy Cali beat and the guys ask the opps and haters what they smoking on because they acting like they’ve lost their collective minds. I’m guessing it’s crack, meth, fenty, or sherm because you’d have to be tweaking to go against gang.
Miguel - Rope: He’s back back. Miguel’s gotta be dropping an album soon as this is the 2nd or 3rd track he’s dropped this year. “Rope” is an acoustic track with a snap loop and finds Miggy reminiscing about a past love. He’s hanging on by a thread, walls closing in and he feels like he’s hanging from the ceiling with a Rope around his neck. The lost love makes him feel like he’s dead. In the end he thinks it’s gonna be alright.
Boosie Badazz - Black & Beautiful: Boosie dropped a new album hilariously titled “Best Album of 2023”. My favorite track is “Black & Beautiful” and it’s his version of James Brown’s “Say It Loud (I’m Black & I’m Proud”. Boosie encourages all Black women to realize how beautiful they are and not to let anyone tell them otherwise. He bigs up Black children and Black preachers too (the non-scammer Preachers). This track was released months ago but I just heard it when I listened to the album.
Ty Dolla $ign - Motion: Ty Dolla dropped a loosie this week and it brings me back to those classic Beach House mixtapes that elevated him into music’s stratosphere. “Motion” has an Afrobeats-Dance vibe. This one will go up in the club. Ty wants you to let that music take control and get that Motion. Let your body be in the moment and vibe out to this one.
Trapland Pat ft. Tee Grizzley - Spoof: Florida’s Trapland Pat dropped a new fire album this week called “Professor Trap”. He got some dope features including an already released track with Luh Tyler and a Ross collab. My favorite track was “Spoof” with Tee Grizzley. Hard hitting Trap beat with piano keys. Trapland pat lives up to his name and gets the work from outta state then floods the streets. He’ll knock a nigga out if they step outta line. Tee Grizzley warns the opps to not play with him. Ask about him in his city and everyone will say he a beast. He’ll never cross any of his homies and he’s at his best when he see his niggas free and eating good.
CJ Fly - Romantic Films: NY’s CJ Fly dropped a new album this week called “HEALING FROM OUR WOUNDS”. Nice mix of sounds on there, some bars, some more melodic tracks. My favorite is “Romantic Films” where he spits about a love lost. He’s hurt and he misses the chemistry they had. He thought it would be like romantic films. He was expecting picture perfect, and he fell in love too fast. He admits that he still needs time to heal.
