The Hit List: week 111 (June 5 - June 11)
Babyface Ray - All Star Team: Face dropped a new loosie this week and it has that New Detroit bounce. Ray is far from a rookie and he went from Plain Jane Rollies to Audemars. He smokes the za and smashes the baddest bitties. He can spend a whole check in one day and he won’t think twice about it since he knows he got some more coming in.
Doe Boy - RHUDE BOY: Oh Really! Doe Beezy dropped a new album this week called “BEEZY”. This is the best body of work I’ve heard from Doe. The samples, the features, a lot of money was invested in this project, and it was worth it because it sounds incredible. I want to highlight the opening track “RHUDE BOY” because it samples the Shyne classic “Bad Boy Anthem” and sets the tone for the back to back heat that comes on throughout the entire project. Do yourself a favor and check out “BEEZY” and these highlights:
WAY I WALK
KARDASHIANS (ft. Lil Yachty & Luh Tyler)
DEEP END (ft. Don Toliver)
TRY & SEE (ft. Future, G Herbo & Roddy Ricch)
CLOUT CHASE (ft. DaBaby)
J HUS ft. Drake - Who Told You: Listen man. You get Drizzy with the man dem. On Afrobeats. It’s gonna be some heat everytime. Who told you badmon don’t dance? Even when the strap is tucked, J Hus will still get his two-step on. If the gyals want him, he might give them a chance. Drizzy knows the vibes and when he finds love it slowly dies. He encourages his shawty to spend time with her friends. And even though he’s not jealous, he still cares.
Fat Trel - Tree High: Gleesh! DMV’s Fat Trel was incarcerated for quite a few years, got out, went back, now I think he’s out again. He dropped a new project this week called “Nightmare on E Street 2”. My favorite track “Tree High” is dedicated to the almighty ganja. It has a triumphant beat with a dope horn loop. Trel likes the Khalifa Kush and is trying to get high as the moon. He fills his whip up with freaks and the only thing he asks: Please don’t cum on his sheets. Other standouts from “Nightmare on E Street 2”:
Art
Love U Right
Ambition (with Hunxho)
Str8 Drop (ft. Icewear Vezzo)
Tyga, YG & Blxst - West Coast Weekend: This is one of those summer anthems and with a title like “West Coast Weekend” you know it’s a bop. On top of that, this track has this generation’s Nate Dogg, Blxst, on the hook, Cali bop Kings, Tyga & YG, and a sample of Cameo’s megahit “Candy” (which Pac, Nate Dogg & Kurupt sampled on “All About U”). It definitely has the recipe for success (and hella radio spins).
Janelle Monáe - Champagne Shit: After quite a rollout period that had the internet going nuts, Janelle Monae released her new album “Age of Pleasure”. It’s top tier throughout and she does rap on multiple tracks (and she goes!) “Champagne Shit” has a funky beat and finds Janelle expressing her love for French kisses, shaking her hips, and shaking her chesticles. She also loves when her partner does the same. Check out “Age of Pleasure” and these standouts:
Float (ft. Seun Kuti & Egypt 80’)
Haute
The Rush (ft. Nia Long & Amarae)
BJ The Chicago Kid ft. Freddie Gibbs - Liquor Store In The Sky: 2 of the Midwest’s finest dropped a loosie this week. BJ The Chicago Kid (who many were introduced to by Schoolboy Q on “Studio”) linked with Gary, Indiana’s Freddie GIbbs (Grammy-nominated if ya dun know). “Liquor Store In The Sky” is a downtempo track that samples that one soul song (you’ll know it when you hear it). BJ sings about a homie he grew up with. They were like brothers, they had great times together (and also fought sometimes). He died in a car crash and uses this song to honor him. He vows to meet him at the Liquor Store In The Sky. Freddy Kaine reps his dogs to death. His homie helped teach him the game. He’ll never forget him and pours out some liquor for him every now and then. BJ dedicates the track to his Pops, his cousins, and some of the homies who passed.
Rah Swish & Ron Suno - GET DROPPED: NY Driller Rah Swish dropped a new 9-track project appropriately titled “9 SHOTS IN THE RUGER”. I’ve had the track “HOTTER THAN HOT” on repeat. I also like the Ron Suno collab “GET DROPPED”. As the title suggests it’s all about running down on the opps and spinning the block until the mission is accomplished. Other highlights from “9 SHOTS IN THE RUGER”
ME & MY GUN (with Sdot Go)
SPRINTER VAN
HOTTER THAN HOT
HIT OR MISS (with OnPointLikeOP)
Joyner Lucas & NBA YoungBoy - Cut U Off: Joyner’s gotta be close to the album ”Not Now, I’m Busy” dropping as this is his 4th (I think) track to drop in the lead up. This one is about niggas and bitties switching up. Joyner would rather be alone than be associated with suckers. He values his peace of mind so if you on some nut shit, he’s gonna Cut U Off. YB is a boss and he has no time for anybody disloyal. If they start playing, they getting kicked to the curb (the homies and the bitties).
Maeta ft. James Fauntleroy - Sexual Love: Songstress Maeta dropped a new album this week called “When I Hear Your Name”. Dope project, it’s R&B gold with an excellent feature list. The Fauntleroy collab really stood out to me. It has a funky, synth-y vibe and has them both singing at the same time on some of it (classic duet style). It’s about starting out as friends and the friendship blossoming into real love. It’s the fairytale love story we all dream of (and all will get at some point God-willing). Go listen to “When I Hear You Name” and these highlights:
Cool Cat
Questions
Clarity (ft. Lucky Daye)
Kissing New People (ft. Ty Dolla $ign)
S(EX)
KEY! & Tony Shhnow - You Need God: Fatman Key dropped a new loosie this week with rising star Tony Shhnow. It samples that one song (you’ll know it when you hear it). The track has a cinematic sound and Key is in his bag with his witty and sometimes humorous bars. He’s a big dog and he’s going for a billion. Tony is high as a kite rocking a Jacob watch. He lets his opps know, it’s them or him so he’s looking out for number 1 every time he pops out.
Boldly James & ChanHays - 730k: Big Bad Boldy dropped a collab project this week with producer ChanHays called “Prisoner of Circumstance”. It features his signature sound, stripped down beats and grimy bars. I really like “730k” and its uptempo, soul-sample beat. Boldy bemoans his fairweather friends and bitties who left him high & dry. He knows all good things come to an end but it doesn’t make it hurt any less. Boldy raps about his come up and sticky situations he had to maneuver through to get where he is today.
Baby Tate - My Biznazz: This year marks the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. To celebrate, there have been concerts, Grammy performances, and now Apple Music enlisted some artists to cook up some exclusive tracks. Baby Tate did one that samples Luda’s classic “Rollout (My Business)”. It has the distinctive horn loop with a bit of futuristic twist to the track. The lyrics stay pretty true to the original but BT adds her own sauce and bigs up the girlies.
Sexyy Red - Looking For the Hoes (It Ain’t My Fault): Sexyy Red has blown all the way up with her track “Pound Town” (even getting Nicki on the Remix). She dropped what looks to be her sophomore album this week “Hood Hottest Princess”. Me being a sucker for a sample, my favorite track samples the No Limit anthem “It Ain’t My Fault”. This one is a club banger, and will definitely go up in the club and every jiggle joint (strip club) in the US. Super catchy, with the repeated “Shake that ass ho!” and the “I’m looking for the hooooooooessssss”. Go check it out.
Symba - Keep Ya Head Up: This is another one of Apple Music’s Hip-Hop 50 exclusive tracks. This has Cali spitter Symba re-rocking Pac’s” Keep Ya Head Up”. If you like the original, and you fuck with Symba, you’ll love this version.
Kenny Mason - RICH: ATL’s Kenny Mason dropped a new project this week called “6” (which could mean this is his 6th project or he’s from Zone 6 in Atlanta or the date and/or month it dropped, 6/6 or something else). Immaculate Vibes on the 9 tracks (listed 1-6 then 1-3 and doesn’t seem to be a Deluxe). I’ve had “100 or NUN” on repeat and I also been bumping “RICH” which has a soul-sample and finds Kenny encouraging us to tighten up in order to get Rich. He’s made his mama proud and now that he’s riding around in the new shit, he has the stick with him just in case the haters try to get active. All the bitties on his meat now that he’s Rich too. Go listen to “6” and these standouts:
DRACULA
100 or NUN (ft. Tony Shhnow)
City Girls - I Need A Thug: City Girls got the formula. They know how to make a track that’ll go up in the club and get hella radio spins. They did it again with “I Need A Thug”. It samples the LL Cool J classic “I Need Love” and finds them describing their ideal man. And although their current bfs might be a lil different from what they describe on the track, they’ve definitely dated some of these fellas and a lot of people can relate to needing a thug-type individual in their lives.
BabyTron - 100 Bars: Sleeve Nash bka BabyTron dropped a new album this week called “6 (Deluxe)”. Dope project, jam packed with Baby bops (I’ll see myself out). “100 Bars” is one of the hardest tracks on there and finds BT going from 1 to 100 incorporating each number in a bar. It’s akin to Papoose going A to Z on “Alphabetical Slaughter”. Check out “6 (Deluxe)” and these standouts:
Eobard Thawne
Twilight Zone
Letters
Christian Rich ft. Vic Mensa - CHICAGO MOTORSPORTS: Every week I find something nice on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist and this week it was this track. YT says it’s the lead single for an upcoming “LOX” anime series (super dope if true). The beat is A1 and the track starts with Vic rapping about his stomping grounds and his come-up. He went from rags to riches and now he got his foot on the opp’s neck. C-Rich pushing that Porsche and he had to leave the thotties alone to get to the bag. Now his price is double and he’s got Gucci everything. He hit some licks but he washed the dirt off, asked God for forgiveness, and now his Karma is through the roof.
Rob49 ft. Roddy Ricch - TRX: Florida’s Rob49 has blown up over the last year. He’s had a few viral moments and some big big tracks. He dropped a new album this week called “4GOD II”. It’s got a lot of those high energy knockerz he’s become known for. “4 GOD II” is my favorite track and I’ve also been playing “TRX” with Roddy Ricch a bunch. This track, like many of his tracks, finds him going back and forth (so Rob gets off a few bars then Roddy. Then back and forth). They got all the whips, all the jewelry, all the bitties, and all the sticks. Even if the promoters say no guns in the party, they still bringing the poles in. Other standouts from “4 GOD II”:
BMF (ft. Icewear Vezzo)
Hate It or Love It (with DaBaby)
4GOD II
Other Tracks/Projects That Dropped This Week
Blxst - 21 Questions
Conway ft. SK, Goose ByTheWay, Heem & Rome Streetz - Elephant Man
Luh Tyler ft. NoCap - Weeks
