The Hit List: week 115 (July 3 - July 9)
Lucki ft. Veeze - Wholeworldslatt: Chicago’s Lucki dropped a new project this week called “S*x M*ney Dr*gs” and it’s packed with those wavy, trippy tracks he’s known for. I’ve had “Wholeworldslatt” with Veeze on repeat. It has that new age bop (beat sounds like something Pi’erre would cook up). Check out “S*x M*ney Dr*gs” and these highlights:
Gemini Love
2021 Vibes
Almighty Tune
Karma A Bitch
Bby Pluto
Lil Tjay ft. NBA Youngboy - Project Walls: Two of Hip-Hops young guns linked for a loosie this week. It’s about their humble beginnings. Project Walls, roaches, being dead broke, and striving for better despite opps wanting them dead and cops wanting them locked up. They kept grinding and now their mamas are proud.
A$AP Twelvyy - Always Us: Twelvyy dropped a dope project this week called “Kid$ Gotta Eat”. This one sounded great in the whip and my favorite track is “Always Us”. It has an epic bounce and the repeated “Always Us, Never Them, Guns Akimbo” refrain is super catchy. I been chanting that shit all weekend. Other standouts from “Kid$ Gotta Eat”:
You Know The Name
Kid$ Gotta Eat
Loml (with Zeina Mates)
Venetian Rose
Lupe Fiasco - Channel No3: Lupe dropped another one this week. I don’t know if there’s a project coming but I wouldn’t be surprised if one dropped before the year’s out. At first I thought this was like a Chanel No 5 luxury track (based on the title) but it’s about video games. Run, jump, slide bars. Mario, cheat codes and Genesis are mentioned too. Lupe is a known video game head and I just came to the realization that the song title refers to the channel that you had to be on to play video games through the RF Unit in the pre A/V & HDMI days (IYKYK).
Philthy Rich & 03 Greedo - GREEDY & PHILTHY: Cali spitter Philthy Rich dropped a new album this week called “Federal Indictment” which refers to a lil situation he got caught up in. Album is dope, and the track with Greedo is special. It has the West Coast, Mustard-y sound. 03 warns that the money can change you and the women be on Demon Time, so watch out. He got banana clips for any niggas that try to peel him. Philthy is the biggest P from his city since Frank Ward and he’ll cop a Lambo if he gets bored. Money & Motion is what he’s all about (something else too). He followed all his dreams and now he’s turned his L’s into W’s and all his crew got Rolex and Cartier watches. Check out “Federal Indictment” and these standouts:
MADE ME STRONG (with Kirko Bangz)
END GAME
DEPENDING ON ME (ft. T-Rell)
TOXIC BITCH
King Von ft. Tee Grizzley - Heartless: King Von looks to have a posthumous album dropping soon called “Grandson”. This lead single is a bop and finds Von talking that shit (you know what shit I’m talking about) Tee Grizzley saw raids when he was growing up on Joy Road. He warns the opps not to gas up because he’ll put the brakes on em. He’s a rare breed and you can’t clone him.
Grip - Time: Grip dropped a phenomenal project this week called “STILL” and it’s a Deluxe of his last project “Five & A Fuck You” but it looks to be an entirely new project (11 new tracks). I been bumping “Time” a lot. It’s dedicated to that special someone that you wanna spend all your time with. It has that 90’s R&B feel and has Grip baring his soul to shorty. Her claws are in his flesh and every second he gets he wants to spend with her. His phone is on DND while they spend some quality time. Other highlights from “Five & A Fuck You”:
Fetch
SS
Keys
FendiDaRappa & Cardi B - Point Me 2: Cardi is keeping her A1 feature run alive, this time on FendiDaRappa’s Point Me 2. It has an NY Drill beat and finds FDR throwing shade at one of the guys. Cats be cappin in they rap and got no bullets in the glizzy. She tryna fuck and wants to pointed 2 the sluts (hence the title). Cardi is in the strippy with the blicky and a lot of one dollar bills. She got chicks of all colors (from Kehlani to Normani). She has a long line of opps and she calls them pussy to they face and they don’t be doing shit.
1TakeJay - Jergens: 1TakeJay dropped a new project this week called “Wait Hol Up Vol. 2”. This was one of my favorites of the week. Straight slappers throughout the project. “Jergens” stood out for the 2 Live Crew “Me So Horny” sample. Jay lets the bitties know if the kitty don’t get wet, he just gon’ go beat his meat. He’ll eat it til it squirts tho. He’s not into being monogamous and don’t like hairy box. Check out “Wait Hol Up Vol. 2” and these standouts:
1234
Oh Yea (ft. Blueface)
Horchata (ft. 1TakeTeezy)
F.A.B. on GOD (ft. Ralfy the Plug)
Ratchet World
Me & Money (ft. Young Majae)
Logic - Noell: There has to be an album dropping. This is like the 5th loosie (since his last album dropped earlier this year). This one is dedicated to his wife and the mother of his child, Noell. It’s a downtempo mellow track and Bobby uses a melodic delivery to let her know she ain’t gotta say a word, he’ll give everything he has to her. He just needed a reason to fall in love and when their paths crossed, he knew she was the one.
tobi lou & FARADA ft. Polo G & Dame D.O.L.L.A - Pain Boy Advanced: tobi lou dropped a new collab project with producer FARADA this week called “‘Decent”. I’ve got songs of his on my computer from 2018, he’s been doing this (and doing it well). “Like My Mom” is a Mother’s Day staple. He got a bunch of dope features for this one. “Forecast” with Chief Keef is my favorite track but I want to highlight the opening track “Pain Boy Advanced” with Polo G and NBA Superstar Damian Lillard (aka Dame D.O.L.L.A.). It sets the tone for the project and it hits hard with a beat that knocks and has a life of its own, and aggressive bars from Dame and introspective bars from Polo. Do yourself a favor and check out “‘Decent” and these standouts:
Hold Me Close
Forecast (ft. Chief Keef)
Hit & Run (ft. Chief Keef, Saba & internetboy)
22nd Jim & Larry June - Say Luv: The Bay in the building! 22nd Jim and Larry June linked for a loosie. They keep it playa and rap to the ladies. Jim like em looking like Jayda with an attitude like Rihanna. When he cuffs, other bitties be hating, but he don’t let that stop they motion. Larry showed his shorty how a real nigga move. He makes her feel good when she comes around and he loves when they awaken to them ocean sounds. They let the future prospects know if they man keep playing, they should change where they laying.
The Musalini & 9th Wonder ft. Sweata - Ocean Breeze: I love discovering an artist. And not a new artist (he’s got projects dating back to 2018 in Apple Music) but I saw this Musalini project “Don & Eye 2” and saw it was a 9th Wonder collab and I had to check it out. Shit is fire and I’m not even the most Boom-Bappity ass nigga. But these beats were crazy and Moose got bars. I might have played “Ocean Breeze” the most out of any songs that dropped this week and the Patti LaBelle “Somebody Loves You” sample that Plies & Hodgy Beats used previously is undefeated. Musalini spits A1 bars, Sweata sauces it up with a melodic hook, and you know 9th cooked up a top tier beat. You gotta go listen to “Don & Eye 2” and these highlights:
In My Lifetime
Smooth Criminal (ft. Jalisa)
Go Get Em (ft. Heather Victoria)
Lil Skies - How Things Go: Lil Skies dropped a new track this week and it’s a bop. He’s having trust issues because people can get you killed. That’s How Things go when you keep it real. He’s screaming fuck the haters while vibing out with his boo and he hopes she sees the world different when she looks at him.
7xvethegenius & Kota Savia - Crown For Queens: Conway dropped a compilation album with a bunch of his closest collaborators called “Drumwork”. Jae Skeese and Goosebytheway held it down on a lot of tracks. 7xvethegenius had my favorite moment on the album and that’s the track “Crown for Queens” with Kota Savia. 7 drops gem after gem over the soul-sampled Boom Bap beat. It’s introspective and talks about Self-Love and how Dirt can only cover up Dirt. The ladies vow to never be stopped or broken down. They some cold bitties so pass the crown. Check out “Drum Work” and these highlights:
Lonely (ft. Jae Skeese, 7xvethegenius, SK Da King & Lucky Seven)
City Grill (ft. Jae Skeese, 7xvethegenius & Goosebytheway)
Blue Glass (ft. Jae Skeese, Goosebytheway & Shots Almigh)
This is War (ft. Jae Skeese, Goosebytheway, Kota Savia, Lucky Seven & SK Da King)
Andre 3000 (ft. Bangladesh, D Smoke, & 7xvethegenius)
Far Away (ft. Elcamino & Shaun 2x)
Flo Milli - B.T.W: This is a simple yet effective formula. Take one of the hottest rappers in the game (Flo Milli) and sample one of the illest Hip-Hop tracks ever (Too $hort’s “Blow The Whistle) and you get a summertime anthem that will get hella spins on the radio and in the club.
Ransom & Nicholas Craven - They Live: Ransom dropped “Directors Cut 4” this week, a collab project with producer Nicholas Craven and it’s a lyrical masterclass. This track “They Live” finds Ransom spitting bars in a storytelling form and then asking the audience to guess who he’s rapping about. I guessed correctly but I also saw Ransom’s interaction with (redacted) on social media and put 2 and 2 together by the end (see what I did there, double enten’ Don). Just when you think it’s over the beat flips and he spits another bio about another person (that one I guessed correctly without any hints). Go check out “Directors Cut 4” and these standout tracks:
Rise Of The Machines
Across 110 Street (ft. Nick Grant)
Enemy Of The State (ft. Crooked I)
Father - Toddlerz: Awful Records’ Father dropped a new loosie this week. This one has some acoustic strings that give it a certain sauce and finds Father confessing that he was smart enough to be a scholar but he was too busy chasing them dollars. With the dollars come women and when he’s making sweet love to one, he grabs her by the collar and fills her with them Toddlerz (aka skeet skeet, man juice, boy sauce, cum m’lady, and semen).
Reese LAFLARE ft. Seddy Hendrix - Quote This: ATL’s Reese LAFLARE dropped a new Gangsta Grillz tape called “Diva Vol. 4” with DJ Drama. A1 features and super dope beats (per usual with Gangsta Grillz). My favorite track is with Generation Now (Drama’s label) artist Seddy Hendrix. Reese has got a fast car so all the haters can eat his dust. He got a bad bitty and she loves to eat his meat. His checks is running up and he loves to spend it on himself. Seddy don’t play pretend and he spits lyrics straight from the heart. He stacking that money on money, he needs his dividends. He’s throwing racks because he knows he’s gonna get some more. Other highlights from “Diva Vol. 4”:
Vices (ft. Ty Dolla $ign)
FYI (ft. Benny The Butcher * Money Making 'Nique)
Doley Bernays ft. 03 Greedo - Bricks In The Car: Another week, another dope track from the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. This one comes from Bronx Native Doley Bernays and Watts spitter 03 Greedo. The beat crazy and Doley goes stupid with some Snowman, Jeezy bars and that dog & ‘caine talk too. 03 Greedo is a T-R-A-P-S-T-A-R and he trying to dodge Jake because there are Bricks In The Car. He also uses some Ya Dig bars (big Jeezy influence on this track). I’ve had this one on repeat.
D-Block Europe & Headie One - Operation Fortress: D-Block Europe dropped a new project this week called “DBE World” . Excellent project with a range of features. I really like the Headie One collab “Operation Fortress”. It’s about whipping in the trap. Sipping Henny, blazing trees in the Lambo, smashing the smeezes, and stacking them bands. Headie relaxes by taking day trips to the south of France (St. Tropez to be exact). He spoils his bitties with a bussdown watches and even though he’s gotten richer, you’ll still see him outside with the drillers. Check out “DBE World” and these highlights:
No More This Time (with Chip)
Potential
Crying in Chanel (with Young Adz)
Tennis (with OhGeesy)
Pakistan (with Clavish)
Obsessed
Dominic Fike - 7 Hours: Multi-hyphenate Dominic Fike dropped a new project this week called “Sunburn”. It’s got those Pop bops that are sure to get plenty of radio spins. My favorite track is “7 Hours”. On it, Dom sings to a special someone and lets her know that he’d drive 7 hours to be with her. He’d spend 25 to Life locked in the bing just to earn time to spend with her. It’s soulful with acoustic strings that give it a lil Country twang. Other “Sunburn” standouts:
Mona Lisa
Frisky
Robb Bank$ - Jade (5 Missed Calls): Florida rhymer Robb Bank$ dropped a new project called “I Dnt txt back, I Dnt call” after dropping a couple tracks in the lead up. I loved all the lead singles and my favorite album cut is “Jade (5 Missed Calls)”. Robb spits about his whips, his chips, his trips, and his chicks. He’s reaching levels his haters couldn’t dream of, and if any of his bitties act up, he’s gonna sit them on the bench. More highlights from “I Dnt txt back, I Dnt call”:
DND (1 Missed Call)
Go & Ask (2 Missed Calls)
Redefine (6 Missed Calls)
