​Cash Kidd - Irreplaceable: My new favorite rapper (of right now) Cash Kidd dropped a new loosie this week. First I gotta credit my guy for being one of the best beat pickers in the game. He really gravitates toward quality production and beats he knows he will slide on. The piano keys do it on this one. He raps about his usual subject matter, spinning the block, stacking cash, and sipping drank. He lets all the ladies know that they ain’t Irreplaceable. When he reaches his breaking point, he’ll go. He’d rather move on than fake the flow.

midwxst - lost: Emo Rap God midwxst dropped a new project called “E3” this week. Dope project, “Pretty girls” dropped a month ago and it still slaps. My favorite album cut is “lost” which is a downtempo track where he describes being lost and crazy. Time has changed him but the shawty he is interested in doesn’t care. Everytime he hits her up she ain’t there. The live instrumentation and backup vocals really elevate this one as the song goes on. Other highlights from “E3”:

Bas - Ho Chi Minh: Bas dropped a solo track amid reports of a J.Cole collab project coming soon. This one is a certified bop, club beat, Bas uses a fast flow and keeps up with the uptempo beat. He talks about his inner feelings, waiting for his turn, being his own worst enemy. He’s been holding on and now they love him like Ho Chi Mihn in Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the country during the Vietnam War that Vietnam effectively won when US troops pulled out. The capital was renamed Ho Chi Minh City (from Saigon). 

Lil Bean - Since Preschool: Lil Bean dropped “4THECULTURE2” this week. Dope project, with his signature sound throughout. My favorite track “Since Preschool” finds Bean rapping about staying cool under pressure and dodging the sharks. He don’t practice bad habits and he don’t fuck with the fake shit. He knew he was the one Since Preschool. He’s focused on the war and knows he might lose a couple battles. Check out “4THECULTURE2” and these standouts:

Knucks ft. Larry June - I Suppose: UK spitter Knucks dropped a helluva track this week with Larry June that’s produced by Kenny Beats. I’ve heard this song come on twice and immediately ran to the phone like “who’s this” because this one slaps from the rip. Knucks throws dirt on the ego-driven opps. He’s a real G, and if they think they will stop him, they won’t. He slays the beat. Larry’s smooth vocals fit on any production and he stays in his laidback bag on the bridge then spits his super P bars. 

Beenie Man ft. Giggs, Busy Signal & Patoranking - Sharpshooter: Dancehall Legend Beenie Man dropped a new project this week called “Simma”. He got superstars from Jamaica and beyond to assist including Shenseea, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Popcaan, Dexta Daps, and Mya, the featured artist on his most commercially successful track “Girls Dem Sugar”. My favorite track “Sharpshooter” features UK Rap Titan Giggs and Patoranking. It’s a Dancehall track and will definitely get the party going. All 3 guys are Sharpshooters and never miss when they shoot. The girlies tell them they are hotter than a dish of soup. Every girl they get they scoop.

Sleepy Hallow ft. TaTa - For You: Winners Circle artist Sleepy Hallow dropped a loosie with fellow NY Driller TaTa. Ta talks about anxiety, homies snitching, and going through it with his BM. He be telling chicks he love em, but he just wanna fuck. He keeps a smile, but he be hurting inside. He’s a demon but he’s soft for his main damie. Sleepy don’t like to party, and he keeps a chopper because he’s a target. His girl tells him she loves him but he already knew. He had to slow down with the lean but when he hops in the Lam he speeds up. 

Blac Youngsta - Too Far: CMG artist Blac Youngsta dropped a new project this week called “Blac Sheep 2”. My favorite track is the closing track “Too Far”. Youngsta is Never Too Far from home and never Too Far from his chrome. He’s away from the trap, but never Too Far from his phone. He’s far from the streets now, but he’s exactly where he belongs.

Maxo Kream & Key Glock - Bonecrusher: We got a loosie from Maxo & Glock and it’s a bop. Niggas fighting in the club like Bonecrusher. The track samples Three 6 Mafia’s classic “Tear Da Club Up”. Maxo is squad deep in the club with every gang, and everybody with him will put a foot in your ass, so tread lightly. Glock is about his cream and be out in Houston with his rocket (his gun). He ran up the money and his haters just run they month.

Smoke DZA & Flying Lotus - Spiritual: Smoke DZA and multi-hyphenate Black Lotus (who headlined Afropunk recently) dropped a collab EP this week called “Flying Objects”. Dope project, my favorite of the five tracks “Spiritual” has the most memorable line “Roll up a Lizzo, it’s about to get Spiritual”. You get it.

Teezo Touchdown & Janelle Monae - You Thought: Teezo Touchdown came onto my radar a couple years ago with the Turkey Leg Hut song. With his distinctive take on Emo Rap and the nails in his hair it was easy to see he was carving out his own lane. He’s back this week with a loosie with the Grammy-nominated Janelle Monae (I wouldn’t have thought up this combo but it actually makes alotta sense). This track is uptempo with funky (somewhat) experimental production. Electric guitar gives it that Rock feel. Teezo uses a true Flurry flow for his bars. The beat slows down and he uses a melodic flow to describe his relationship. Janelle supplies supporting vocals and adds some sauce to the wings.

Baby Tate - Jersey: Formerly “Yung” Baby Tate dropped a new track and while it’s about a relationship that went left she pays homage to Jersey Club. A genre that has seen a renaissance thanks to Lil Uzi’s “I Wanna Rock” and his Philly brethren 2Rare who is carving out a career with the sound (including making this year’s XXL Freshmen list). “Jersey” sees Baby Tate crying in a club in Jersey because her nigga did her greasy. The beat has that Jersey Club bass and this is one you’ll hear on the radio and in the club. 

Roc Marciano & The Alchemist - Turkey Wings: Roc Marc and The Alchemist dropped the deluxe to their collab project, this version called  “The Elephant Man’s Bones: The ALC Edition”. It adds 2 new tracks including “Turkey Wings”. On it, Roc starts off sampling Marvin Gaye’s smash hit (literally) “Sexual Healing”. He talks about the thick bitties who butt naked out in Jersey making Turkey Wings. He raps about Birkin, David Yurman, and AMG Benzes. He can supply these things for shawty while those other dudes can’t. He warns that he might pull up 4 in the morning, lit and ready for action. 

Lil Wayne - Kat Food: Weezy F recently crafted the intro track for Skip Bayless’ (his mans) new revamped Undisputed show (and it was Mixtape Weezy in top form). He’s back with an official loosie for the people. He starts off acapella, then the bouncy beat loops in. It samples Missy’s classic “Work It” and finds Weezy admiring the Kat that’s hanging out the Kat Suit like Serena. It looks so good he wanna eat it.

FLEE - Flow Away: I was glad I listened to FLEE new project “GHOST” this week because it’s a whole ass vibe especially my favorite track “Flow Away”. “FLEE don’t give your flow away” These bitties think he’s acting famous but he’s on the same shit. None of his bitties basic and the ones that want him, want him just for his clouty. He skeets on they dome then they need a Bounty paper towel. You (like me) think this is a slap, but for him this is just a throwaway. He does suggest we put this on our playlists (I did).

JID & BabyTron ft. Lil Yachty - Half Doin Dope: JID and Lil Boat dropped a two-pack this week and they got XXL Freshman BabyTron for “Half Doin Dope”. JID uses a lil autotune on this one (it sounds like) and he’s been getting slurped by a throat goat but is dismayed when she also provides her fellatial services to the bros. He’s having some motion and he ain’t humble this time, he’s braggin and boasting. He puts the drip on, and steps out and puts the team on his back. This track has that 2000’s Nappy Roots sound and Yachty matches JID’s speedy flow effortlessly. Fast bars are BabyTron’s bag and he shows his versatility as this production isn’t what we usually hear him on. He finishes his verse a capella and it’s absolute flames. Tough Tune.

Smiley - Ryda My Bro: OVO’s Smiley dropped off an EP this week called “Garden Boyz”. The standout was “Ryda My Bro” which has a downtempo piano beat. Smiley uses his signature flow and raps about the shawtys who fuck with him and his bro. He doesn’t know who to trust sometimes but he rides for his bro. Some of his guys are locked up and that’s part of the reason he don’t chase the bitties. His rap persona is no act, he is Glizzy Gang, that is a fact.

Rod Wave - Come See Me: Rod is set to drop a new album “Nostalgia” on September 15th. I believe this is the album that was rumored to drop earlier this year but has been pushed back until now. “Come See Me” is the 3rd track he’s dropped in the lead up. This one finds Rod questioning his connection with his boo. He asks her to tell him when to let go, if it’s a wrap. He used to get butterflies when she calls, and now the same calls make his stomach turn. He wonders if she’s just along for the ride. He knows the longer he stays in it, the harder it will be to get out. He does assure her that if she ever needs him, she can Come See him.

LIL MEAT - Close Your Eyes: So I must admit when I saw an artist named LIL MEAT dropped a new album (called “Done Being Humble”) and it was featured on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist, I had to at least check it out (pause). Dope project, and “Close Your Eyes” was my favorite track. It has a vocal sample in the beginning to encourage us to let it all go, body and mind, and come alive in the night time. MEAT’s Florida Man delivery is a nice contrast over the buttery beat. He talks about people thinking he was cap and having to grow up. He promises his mama that he’s gonna do better. He’s a drill rapper but he be going through shit that would break most people. 

TisaKorean - Rando: This one snuck up on me. I feel like I heard TisaKorean on a Chance track before (Groceries with Murda Beatz, I looked it up) but this is the 1st solo track I’ve heard of his. The beat comes on and I thought “Where is this going…” but it’s a catchy ass track. It sounds like an ol school video game melody or an early ringtone with a snap beat and TK flows perfectly to it. He don’t talk to Randos but he does smash white bitties from Idaho. He keeps a bando and rocks Robin Jeans.

tobi lou & FARADA - Meteorite: After him and Farada dropped a star studded project in June, they’re back again with an EP called “Why Do It Feel Like I’m Losing You”. The first track “Losing You” is special. I also love “Meteorite” which has radio-ready Pop-Rock production. Tobi uses a melodic flow to talk about his shawty. He keeps looking at her booty because it keeps on gaining weight. They just came off an argument and he asked her not to start no more shit. She’s his boo, and he’ll do anything for her. He just asks that she stay off his iPhone. If she can’t trust him, he thinks maybe she should let him go. He’s giving her space to breathe but if she wants to kick it with him tonight, all she has to do is let him know.

Yella Beezy - Ha Ha: This is the 2nd straight catchy ass slap Dallas’ own Yella Beezy has made. I’ve seen him at the megafight this year (Spence vs. Crawford) and I saw him in the background of Deion Sanders' pregame speech to his Colorado Buffaloes this week (man loves his sports). On this track the message is simple. He’s laughing all the way to the bank like “HaHa”. And he’s moving up the ranks on em (his opps that is). 

Blxst & Bino Rideaux- Doin Yo Stuff: Cali artists Blxst & Bino Rideaux dropped the third in their Sixtape series “Sixtape 3”. The series is defined by their gangsta love tracks and “Doin Yo Stuff” is them at their best. The Snap beat gives it that new Cali sound. Bino don’t wanna talk, he just tryna fuck. He beating shit down, beating shit up. He asks her what she doin because he’s tryna slide through. He even asks her and her thick best friend to slime him out. Blxst be beating it up to the wee hours of the morning. His girl been doing her squats and putting in work so them backshots be sounding like a thunderstorm. 

Derek King - On Tip: D King burst onto the scene with “Play” a few years ago (and I still play that one, pun intended). He dropped a new EP this week called “On Tip”. My favorite track is the title track and it has Derek asking his new ting for suggestions on how they can make it work. She’s fly, and he only has eyes for her. He needs her at all his shows and whatever she needs, he’s gonna get it. 

Nuk - J Pay: I love when Apple Music suggests some heat. So they playlisted the track “Fuck Niggas” and it was such a bop I had to check out the whole album and it was more of the same. The album is called “Standing on Business” and it’s super duper dope, I think everyone would enjoy it. My favorite track is “J Pay” (and not because I regularly use the app…). This one samples Do or Die’s classic “Po Pimp” and Nuk’s Detroit-type flow works wonderfully over the beat. Btw I don’t know if he’s from Detroit or not but it does sound like that New Detroit flow (and he calls the work “Dog” and mentions HaHa Davis so I’m like 87% sure he’s from The D).
