The Hit List: #128 (October 2 - October 8)
Baby Money - Look at Me: QC artist and Detroit’s very own Baby Money dropped a new track this week. The title refers to the fact that Baby Money assumes a woman wants him to beat cheeks if she looks at him (I totally understand). The beat has an R&B sample (with the chipmunk vocals). He been going through too much but he looks happy. He been dropping opps left and right. You would think his opps is Hindu (because of the red dots on their foreheads). Quality street music.
Drake ft. J. Cole - First Person Shooter: Drake dropped his long awaited album “For All The Dogs” this week after weeks of delays (and another 6 hour delay but people just theorized that the 6 God wanted to drop on October 6th at 6AM (you do the science). Good project, definitely liked it more on the 2nd listen. FPS is not my favorite track but Cole’s verse is one of the best of the year (and this is right off that Yachty feature). I don’t wanna gas it, just go check it out (if you haven’t already).
Jay Rock - Ambition (Freestyle): Jay Rock will forever have the sports anthem “Win” that plays in stadiums across America every week. He dropped some more heat this week with “Ambition (Freestyle)”. I’m a sucker for a soul sample so it hooked me from the beginning. Jay Rock states that his Ambition won’t allow him to quit. He ain’t beggin for bread but still he rises. You only get one life so he’s grinding til the mission is done.
LG Malique - I’ll Figure It Out: My favorite album this week is easily LG Malique’s “Colorblind”. With Rap these days, you’ll get an introspective track or 2 here and there, but never a full project. That's what the Def Jam signee did on this one. “I’ll Figure It Out" stood out for its optimistic message and Malique’s honest bars. He’ll figure out like he always do. He’ll never surrender because he always knew. He listens to his intuition because it’s always true. He can’t wait to til his story (about how he made it through). Check out “Colorblind” and these highlights:

Tems - Me & U: Tems dropped a smooth track this week with Me & U. Now I wanna call it Afrobeats, but there has been discourse recently about what exactly Afrobeats is so I’m unsure but it sounds like what I’m told Afrobeats is. Tems sings to someone asking them to give her something to hold on too. They are her everything and she’s trying to ride out in the sunset with them (only Me & U).
Earl Sweatshirt & Alchemist - Heat Check: Earl dropped a new collab project with Alchemist this week and it’s signature Earl so all the Earl-heads will love it (especially my white homie Justin, a certified Earl Stan). My favorite track is “Heat Check” mainly because the production is something you never hear Earl rap on. It’s like an 80’s R&B beat. Earl’s flow and lyrics are his bag but the beat combined with his flow makes this one special.
Fredo Bang ft. NLE Choppa - Sideways: So Fredo, NLE and DJ Chose took a page out of 2 Rare’s book and sampled a 90’s R&B heat to cook up a Jersey Club beat for this certified bop. It sample’s K.P. & Envyi’s “Swing My Way” and Fredo asks shawty if she can ride Sideways. He trying to hit Sideways. NLE likes to smash all kinda ways (especially off a pill). His favorite position is missionary and he just wants to spend some quality time with shawty to show her all his tricks.
Maiya The Don - Body: Maiya the Don dropped a new album this week called “Hot Commodity” and I’m thoroughly impressed. She used quite a few samples and they all knocked. I love the Shawny Binladen collab that came out awhile ago “Luv U Better” and my favorite album cut is “Body” which samples the Mariah classic “Touch My Body”. Maiya’s aggressive delivery lets all the niggas and all the bitties know they betta not play round with her name or they might get smacked, she don’t duck no smoke. She’s living the fantasy life and ain’t got time for riff raff.
Tee Grizzley & Finesse2Tymes - Grizzley2Tymes: This is one of the best tracks to drop this week. It’s definitely a Grizzley-type beat (legendary Detroit producer Helluva made it so it makes sense). The beat starts off smooth, no drums then the bounce drops in and Grizzley delivers his introspective bars to start, then gets into his aggressive shit. Finesse impressed me with his bars, he absolutely slid on this one. Go listen.
Lil Yee - COLD PART: Lil Yee dropped a new album this week “BITA” after dropping the fire loosie “WHO IS BITA?” last week. Dope project, my favorite track “Cold Part” is super smooth. Yee uses a melodic flow to talk about his inner (sometimes suicidal) thoughts. He’s so high he can’t feel no pain but he’ll still bust on the opps (pause).
Bic Fizzle - Souja Talk: 1017 Artist Bic Fizzle dropped a new slapper this week. He raps about his favorite strap and his bottom bittie (her period is late). He knows how to whip the pots and he always has the dirty glock. He thuggin with his guys til death.
RJmrLA, DJ Drama & BluebucksClan - When I Call: RJ dropped a new Gangsta Grillz with Drama aptly titled “OMMIO Grillz” referencing his OMMIO series. This collab with BluebucksClan is an instant stand out. This beat is the kind the DJ and Jeeezy shine on. RJ closes the track and talks his shit too. This is a cruiser for sure (play it in the whip).
Elcamino ft. Benny The Butcher - New Bills: B$F’s El Camino dropped a new project this week called “They Spit On Jesus”. It’s packed with that Griselda, new Boom-Bap sound, so if that’s your bag you’ll love this one. My favorite track was one of the 2 Benny Collabs “New Bills”. It has a soul sample and El gets in his storytelling bag and raps about back in the day (before he got his first brick). He made it through and now he got a new Rollie and hella bread. Benny spits about his come up, from East Buffalo to the Lambo dealership in all designer drip.
BigXThaPlug - Mmhmm: BigXThaPlug is having a banner year. After dropping a smash with “Whip It” and walking Errol Spence out at this year’s biggest boxing match, he’s back with another bop. This one samples Will Smith’s “Miami” (which itself samples the Whispers “And The Beat Goes On”). Big X slid again and I think he’s found a recipe for success. I can’t wait for the next one of these he drops. They’re super catchy.
Joey Fatts - Lil Lady Interlude: Cali spitter Joey Fatts dropped a new album this week called “Glorious”. Super dope album, I been bumping “Thought I Told You” and the song I’ve had on repeat is “Lil Lady Interlude”. It samples Oobie’s “Give Me Your Lovin” (the same song that Drake and 21 sampled on “Spin Bout U”). The kitty be driving Fatts crazy. He still focused on the guap but he wants his bottom bittie right there with him. Her love is so dear to him. Check out “Glorious” and these standouts:
Thought I Told You
Report Me
9X10
Vedo - Luv to a Fck Song: R&B singer Vedo dropped a new project this week called “7”. I really love the song he dropped with Lecrae “I Need You” and its spiritual message. And on the other end of the spectrum, “Luv to a Fck Song” is special too. You can get the drift from the title. It also samples Total & Biggie’s classic “Can’t You See”. If you like R&B and fucking, you’ll enjoy this this song (and album).
Wiz Khalifa - Priestly Business: Pittsurbugh’s own dropped a new project in collaboration with Whoo Kid this week called “Khali Sober”. Wiz has always stayed true to himself and if you know him you know this one was full of weed anthems. Guy loves the ganj (also makes the album title hella ironic). “Priestly Business” has a smooth bop. He uses a melodic flow to talk about all the paper planes he be rolling up and smoking everyday. Wake and bake then hop in the drop top and cruise the city. He’s hella paid and everywhere he goes he gets respect. He can smoke anywhere, his pass is good all over.
Kirk Franklin - Welcome Home: The Godfather of Gospel, Kirk Frank dropped a new project called “Father’s Day”. Interesting title being that Father’s Day was months ago (and he’s had a very public relationship with one of his children). “Welcome Home” has an island twist, is uptempo, and finds the choir singing to The Lord about the glories of heaven. We’ll all stop fighting and live in peace in the land of milk & honey. Once we get to paradise, you’ll be able to scream “I’m Home!” (Unless you believe in something else… That’s cool too… I think I’ll probably be reincarnated as one of them flying squirrels).
