The Hit List: week 129 (October 9 - October 15)
Offset & Don Toliver - Worth It: Offset dropped a new solo project this week called “Set It Off”. Dope project, the Don Toliver collab “Worth It” stood out instantly for the “Put Ya Hands Where My Eyes Can See” sample. Don on the hook is a cheat code and this is one of the tracks for the ladies. The guys let em know they’re worth it (Birkins, private jets and all).
Mozzy - If I Die Right Now: Mozzy is back with another introspective banger. The beat is brazy and you know he shows love to his granny (RIP) he hears her voice tell him to keep going. He big ups some of the homies (some that are locked up). He knows he’s destined for greatness even though the streets keep claiming his friends. He continues to hustle, endure and never crumble or fumble. He knows he has unique hurdles because he’s Black, but he’ll never give up.
Kodak Black - Hope You Know: This Yak release dropped a week ago but got its official release this week (or so I read). It is a message to his inner circle. He assures them that he’s down with them for life. He holds it down even when no one’s watching. He just asks that they hit him up once in a while and ask how he’s doing.
Bad Bunny - LOS PITS: Bad Bunny dropped a new album this week called “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana” and I don’t know what it means (nor do I know the lyrics of any song) but the album slaps. The best song is “LOS PITS” and I say that confidently because I told the homie it was my favorite and he was like it’s his favorite too so the survey is 100% for this song. It features Benito rapping over a snap beat. That’s a can’t miss recipe.
Gucci Mane & Key Glock - Glizzock & Wizzop: Gucci Mane been rolling out this album “Breath of Fresh Air” this whole goddam year and it’s sposed to be released sometime in Woptober but we’ll see. He dropped another single off the project with Key Glock and it’s a thumper. Knocks in the whip and it’s one of the tracks I’ve listened to the most this week.
Westside Gunn & Ty Dolla $ign - Chloe: Westside Gunn dropped a new album this week called “And Then You Pray For Me” and it’s a change of pace that I loved. It has some boom-bap but also has him on trap beats with some southern trap artists (Jeezy & EST Gee). This Grown and Sexy track with Ty Dolla has some of the raunchiest lyrics (including Gunn eating pussy everywhere, hands around her throat while she squirting on the Rose (vibrator). He trying to kill it (the pussy of course) and how pretty she is when he nuts on her). The hard bars by Gunn and the smooth vocals of Ty compliment each other well.
Lil Blessin & G Herbo ft. Travis $cott, BIA - Likka Sto 2: Lil Blessin dropped the original Likka Sto about a year ago. And for the remix (or version 2), he got some heavyweights to bless the track and appear in the video. If you’re headed to the Likka Sto this is the anthem you need to be bumpin on the way. Beat crazy and all 5 MCs bring something different to the track. Take a shot!
Peezy & Cash Kidd - Players & Pimps: Detroit’s Peezy aka Big Ghetto dropped a new album this week aptly named “Ghetto”. Super Dope project, “Blessing” with Ty Dolla is my favorite track (I love that spiritual shit) and I also love “Players & Pimps” with Cash Kidd because it embodies that OG Detroit player energy and adds the new wave flavor to it. Cash Kidd is one of the best in the game right now. Check out “Ghetto” and these highlights:
Psilocybin (with BabyTron)
Sucka Free
Rich Freak (with Skilla Baby)
Blessed (with Ty Dolla $ign)
Rubi Rose - Hood Bitch Aesthetic: This track is highlighted not just for the video (go watch the video tho…) but because Rubi slid on this one. She got a few tracks a year she drops that have universal appeal and this is one of them. The “Oh I Think They Like Me” sample hooked me in addition to the R&B vocal loop in the background. This is one of the catchiest tracks to drop this year. (Additional Notes: Ok so this shit is stuck in my head, I’ve had it on repeat and it’s one of the best tracks to drop this week hands down)
Veeze - Get Lucki: Veeze dropped the Deluxe to his recent “Ganger” project. This version adds 5 new tracks. My favorite is the opening track “Get Lucki”. It has a dope beat and Veeze’s signature laid back flow meshes well. He talks about the pills he pops, the drank he drinks, and his glow up (and the homies he brought with him). The opps salty for sure.
Key Glock - No Hook 2: Glizzock with his 2nd appearance on this week’s list. This time for a loosie he dropped (streets saying he has a new project dropping soon). It’s a sequel to his track “No Hook” and just like the title says there’s no hook. This hi-hat loop is something that Key Glock (and Dolph) have always shined on. He raps about his drip, the big booties he be clapping, and sliding on the opps (or delegation to the lil homies). He’s ballin and he encourages us to watch like we in the bleachers. His pockets fat like Peter Griffin (from Family Guy).
Paul Wall & Termanology ft. AZ & Solene - Palm Trees: Paul Wall and Termanology finally dropped their collab project “Start Finish Repeat” and it’s a gem. They got rap legends Bun B, AZ, CL Smooth & Sheek Louch to bless the album. The track “Palm Trees” stands out for the summer time vibes. Term raps about enjoying the moment, chillin, and rollin some green. I loved the God’s plan/free will bar (throughout this rollout, I’ve been impressed by the bars by both Paul & Term). Solene’s vocals on the hook adds to the laid back vibes. This is one you can cruise with the top down (or sunroof open) especially if you have hella Palm Trees lining the road where you at. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention AZ closing the track like Mariano Rivera. He’s one of the GOATs.
Smino - No Pinterest: Smi is back with a new loosie and it samples the Luda/Shawna classic “What’s Your Fantasy?”. Smino crushes the uptempo production as he raps about the quality trees he smokes, the bad bitties he spends quality time with, and the fast cars he whips around in. He made it out the bottom and now he’s enjoying the fruits of his labor.
Jay Worthy, Kamaiyah & Harry Fraud - Entrepreneur: Bay Area big steppers Jay Worthy & Kamaiyah linked with superproducer Harry Fraud for a new project this week called “THE AM3RICAN DREAM”. Dope project, it’s a great blend of that New West Coast sound and the La Musica De Harry Fraud signature sound. “Entrepreneur” is a great example of this. Production has a funky 70’s vibe to it with the live instrumentation. They called up Harry and it got scary. Kamaiyah handles the verses for this. All she knows is get that money baby. And she getting it lumps.
Shordie & Shordie & Murda Beatz - Contacts: Shordie & Shordie linked with megaproducer Murda Beatz (who he already has a collab project with) for a new loosie called “Contacts”. It’s about one of his favorite tings. She got a snapper so good, it makes him want to kill (figuratively). He’s willing to fly her anywhere, buy her anything. He just hopes she hits his phone so they can link. The hook is super catchy and I’ve had this on repeat.
Hunxho - Is U Ready: This generation’s Auto-Tune king dropped a new album this week called “For Her”. Dope project, naturally all the tracks are about the ladies and of course feature his signature sound. “Is U Ready” finds him asking a question (duh Damon). He questions if she wants him for him or his sex. He tells her to wait on his call and when he calls, he asks if she’s ready. Shawty is a freak in the morning, she gets straight to it without talking. This belongs on that late night playlist.
Conway The Machine - Love The Lord: Conway dropped a new track produced by Conductor Williams (who just got a major look from Drake as he produced the lead-in single “8AM in Charlotte” for The Boy’s new album. “Love The Lord” has that Griselda sound (obvi). Conway raps about clapping at the opps, sipping Deleon with pineapple, and his marketing plan. All bars no hook and Conductor has some fun on the end including a Michael Jackson sound bite.
Ken Carson ft. Destroy Lonely - Singapore: One of the Emo-Rap titans, Ken Carson, dropped a new project this week called “A Great Chaos”. He got his mans Destroy Lonely on a few tracks and Uzi showed up for the party too. One of the DL collabs “Singapore” really stood out to me. It has production from one of the 808 Mafia niggas. Carson spits about how he got rich before 23 (like LeBron James). He’s down with OPP and he’ll fly your girl to Singapore. He ain’t afraid to post her either. Lonely has foreign whips and foreign chicks. He’s rich as fuck, that’s why people hate on him. He gets paper cuts from counting up all the paper.
Ice Spice ft. Rema - Pretty Girls: Ice Spice is continuing her meteoric rise. A Dunkin national commercial with Ben Affleck and her debut on SNL this past Saturday has her everywhere all at once. She dropped this new track this week with African superstar Rema (and they also performed it on SNL). It’s super catchy and has an Afrobeats vibe. Rema don’t kiss & tell as long as shawty treats him well. When Ice Spice sees her boo, he makes her eyes wide. He’s out of space like Sci-Fi. Her flow is buttery and she gets in plenty of her signature “Grah” and “Like” adlibs.
TOBi - Time Out: TOBi has had a great rollout for his new project. Every leadup single slapped and the album delivered more flames. My favorite album cut is “Time Out”. It has Tob spitting to his lady. He lets her know she ain’t gotta be Wonder Woman tonight. She can let her hair down and let him spoil her. It’s on sight, her hips tell stories and it’s Story Time.
Mariah The Scientist - From A Woman: So Thugger Thugger dropped a track this week called “From A Man” and MTS dropped a companion track called “From A Woman” (each obviously from their respective perspectives). It features a conversation between her and Jeff in the beginning and is produced by LondonOnTheTrack. Mariah thought she had seen it all before and now she’s seen so much more. She trusts his plan and won’t let no one force her hand. She believes he’s heaven sent and he’s someone she can depend on. It might be luck but it’s for sure love.
DaBaby - Crash The Jeep: After performing at the BET Hip-Hop Awards Big Baby Jesus continues his comeback tour this week with a new loosie. Beat crazy and Baby use his flurry flow to let his shawty know he ain’t got much time to get busy so if she want some meat she better drive as fast as she can, even if she gotta crash the jeep. This one slaps.
COLOM8IAN - Come My Way: R&B Artist COLOM8IAN dropped a new track and it’s flames. It sounds like it samples Brandy & Monica’s classic “Boy Is Mine” and adds an island twist. On this one C implores shawty to come his way. What her man won’t do he will. He’s gonna upgrade her, show her better. No more Ubering, he’s picking her up in the Cedes Benz.
OT The Real, araabMUZIK & Black Soprano Family - Turning Stones: BSF’s OT The Real dropped a collab project with producer araabMuziK this week called “Zombie”. It’s packed with that gritty, new Boom-Bap sound. “Turning Stones” is a break from the norm with its cinematic production. OT talks about taking penitentiary chances by pushing that work. He could've stopped moving forward once he got jammed up, but he came home and kept Turning Stones, fought through it, and made it to the top.
Benji & Spillage Village - Josephine: EarthGang’s Benji dropped a new EP in collaboration with the Spillage Village collective called "Love Gun". Most tracks have the name of a legendary female singer (this one is Josephine (Baker I assume), Sadé, and legend in the making Jorja Smith). Over the jazzy, live instrumentation Benji raps to Jospehine. She’s his muse and he’s willing to take her on a drive through the neighborhood where he plans to make a happy home with her.
BBG Steppaa - Love and War: Another week, another great find on the Apple Music New Hip Hop playlist. This week it comes from Jersey’s own BBG Steppaa. It has a NY Drill beat with a chipmunk vocal loop. Steppa spins on the opps and he knows half of Newark wants to kill him. He ain’t gonna hide, and he will keep a strap to make sure his opps won’t hit him.
Kaliii ft. Young Nudy - Say Too Much: Kaliii dropped a new EP this week called “FCK GIRL SZN”. This one samples the 504 Boyz hit “I Can Tell”. It’s sped up a bit but keeps the same bop as the original but comes from the woman’s perspective. Nudy offers the counterpoint and adds some special sauce to the track.
BigBabyGucci - Like I’m Famous: BigBabyGucci dropped a new album this week called “When You Wake Up”. Dope project, I was shocked by how many of the tracks I liked. My favorite is “Like I’m Famous” which has a spiritual connection to Drake’s “Connect” (don’t talk to me like I’m famous). BBG’s version has a soul sampled vocal loop in the background and has BBG smoking trees with a lady friend and talking about their issues. He’ll smash, but he ain’t trying to wife her because she treats him like he’s famous. The money is his only wifey.
