The Hit List: week 131 (October 23 - October 29)
Tobe Nwigwe - MILANO FREESTYLE: This is the best track that dropped this week. The bars are A1 as are the melodic vocals Tobe uses for the praise break, Hallelujah, I’ll put a hollow in ya part. The video and the choreography are top tier (just like all his other videos). I’ve had this on repeat and I don’t believe it’s going outta rotation until the day I die.
Shordie Shordie & Murda Beatz ft. Baby B - First Kiss: Shordie Shordie went viral for beating the breaks off a concertgoer that started throwing up gang signs at him. He beat em up from on stage too, shit was crazy. It seems like the perfect time for him and Murda Beatz to drop the sequel to their first collab project “Memory Lane II”. Super dope project, with plenty of Shordie’s signature ad-lib (Ay, ayyayyay). I’ve been bumping “First Kiss” with Baby B. Shordie is reminiscing about his first kiss (the real one not the fake one). He talks about coming up in B-more and coming up with that special someone who was his first kiss. Baby B’s vocals really sauce it up. She wants to be her dudes first and last. She wants to go slow and not go too fast.
Joyner Lucas - 24 hours to live: This nigga prolly dropped this whole album by now. It feels like he been rolling out this album for all of 2023. The good thing is every track has been fire and the train keeps on rolling with “24 hours to live”. The piano keys give this one a nice lil bop. Joyner gets in his storytelling bag and tells us what he’d do if he had 24 hours to live. Let’s just say it would be an eventful 1400 minutes. This album bout to be bonkers.
Money Man - Pound Alert: Money Man’s “Croptober” is my favorite project to drop this week. He has his signature delivery throughout but it sounds like he was experimenting with different sounds too. “Pound Alert” stood out from the start of the track. It has them guitar strings that we hear on hella Money Man tracks. He raps about one of his favorite subjects: Marijuana. State to state he copping them pounds. And the melodies and harmonies is what really makes this one catchy. Check out “Croptober” and these highlights:
No Pressure (with BC Marse)
Live Life (with BC Marse)
NBA Youngboy - Deep Down: YB is set to drop a new project soon and he came through with a 3 pack for the people. My favorite track of the three is “Deep Down”. He raps about Deep Down in the water where he was raised. He warns the opps if they run up and try to take his chain he gon’ shoot em. He taxin all these hoe ass niggas. He just wanna kick back in peace and count up his cheese so let him be.
Destin Conrad - Mariposa: R&B Singer Destin Conrad dropped a new project this week called “Submissive”. Dope project. I’ve had the opening track “Mariposa” on repeat. It has Latin Vibes and DC asks his boo to fly him to Ibiza if DC is indeed that special someone. He asks for his lover to come back to him and not turn their back on him. DC gets butterflies when he thinks of his boo thang.
Nyck Caution - Build A Foundation: Pro Era alum Nyck Caution dropped a new loosie this week. It’s Motivation Music and he encourages us to Build A Foundation. He knows there will be destruction in all our lives, but that’s the perfect opportunity for renovation. Through the highs and the lows, the waves and the tides, the gray skies, we should persevere then find our wings and the courage to fly.
Homixide Gang - DesignerDRÜGZ: Homixide Gang dropped a new project this week called “5th AMNDMNT”. Dope project, “DesignerDRÜGZ” is a track I immediately added to the Serrato. The guys pray to the lord they don’t die and they pray with their glock on The Bible. They put in work and so do all the ladies they mingle with. They living that Rockstar lifestyle and if you play with them you getting fried. They ready to slide at all times and you’ll never catch them lacking.
Tee Grizzley - Robbery 6: If you are unaware that Tee Grizz is one of the best storytellers in the game, you ain’t been listening hard enough. His Robbery series is like the Gangsta Rap version of R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet. If you haven’t heard all of them yet, go start at Robbery and work your way through Robbery 6.
Elcamino & 38 Spesh - No Drums: Elcamino and 38 Spesh dropped a collab EP this week called “Martyrs Prayer II”. Dope project, definitely one the Boom-Bapheads will enjoy. My favorite track is “No Drums” and as you can imagine there are no drums (some congas though). Camino & Spesh spit over the minimalist beat with strings and a soul sample. The rap about exercising, fake love, the bitties, and more.
Fredo Bang - FWM: After dropping “Sideways” Fredo is back with another grown & sexy track. On this one, he asks shawty to Fuck Wit Me (him). He’s down with OPP so he’ll slide in the DM and smash someone’s BM. He raps about all the ways he’ll beat the pussy up and beat the pussy down. He also has women with pictures of Sexyy Red and Sukihana on paper bags over their heads (maybe implying he trying to beat cheeks).
Ace Hood - Beyond It: Ace Hood dropped a new album this week called “B.O.D.Y.” and it’s fire. I listened to most of it while driving around and it sounded great in the whip. Ace Hood gets into his introspective bag throughout the project and especially on “Beyond It”. He promises never to sell his soul and he knows he has to lean into the pain in order to break the cycle. He felt alone but kept his composition. He finally got what he was working for now he’s giving thanks to God. No negative vibes, he’s Beyond It. Check out “B.O.D.Y.” and these standouts:
OMG
Wet 4 Me
Hood Baby (ft. Jackboy & Slim Diesel)
Uncomfortable Truth (with Benny The Butcher ft. Millyz)
Giggs & Dave East - Starlets: UK Legend Giggs dropped a new loosie with Dave East and the title is an homage to the iconic NY Strip club. It samples that one soul song (you’ll know when you hear it). Dave starts it off and talks about his ice and the bitties he attracts. They both put in work in Harlem and London. Giggs can make the call and turn the opps into a memory. He can make a different call and shawty will be on the next flight. The love is endless.
Brent Faiyaz with N3WYRKLA & A$AP Rocky - Outside All Night: Brent dropped a wavy new album this week called “Larger Than Life”. The vibes are on infinity, you gotta check it out. This Rocky collab stood out for the airy production and the trio of sounds: N3WYRKLA’s soulful vocals, Rakim’s bars (he asks shawty not to smash the homies) and Brent on the catchy chorus.
Rucci - Out Tha Way!: Cali’s Rucci dropped a new track this week and of course it has that West Coast bop. Rucci spent 100 racks in Supreme and he’s leaning off the Wock. One of his bitties asked for some money, he told her to stay down and he’ll think about it. Lately he ain’t been around, he Out Tha Way now.
NLE Choppa - Smokin On Them: NLE dropped a Deluxe to his recent “Cottonwood 2” project. Most of the tracks have samples that make them immediately familiar so you catch a groove quicker. My favorite of the Deluxe tracks is “Smoking on Them” and it samples the Gotye mega-smash “Somebody That I Used To Know” which held the Billboard record for most weeks at #1 before “Old Town Road” stole the title. NLE’s version adds drums and he raps about grinding from the bottom to living in the lap of luxury. The title refers to how him and his crew are smoking that opp pack all night and for life.
Baby Tate - Grip: Baby Tate dropped a new EP this week called “Baby Tate Presents - Sexploration: The Musical”. My favorite track is “Grip” where she describes how her snapper keeps her lovers hypnotized. She’s a generous freak and she has a lot of tricks up her sleeve. She got that good good so don’t act bad or you might lose her. Oh, and it samples the Ying Yang Twins classic “Wait (The Whisper Song)” and Baby Tate says wait til you feel this Grip. You ain’t never had it tight like this.
42 Dugg - Go Again: Dugg just got released from the bing after a year long bid. Gotti and the crew went and scooped him and he got right in the stu to cook this one up. Dugg is a part of the Blitz Squad and everytime he hears hike, he goes for the opps necks. He gets active and he pampers his chicks, he’ll bust down both of her wrists. He also busts down all of his kids. How could you not love him.
Rema - Troublemaker: African superstar Rema dropped a new EP this week called “RAVAGE”. The opening track “Troublemaker” stood out for the strings in the production which give it an R&B vibe. It also has an Afrobeats sauce, and sounds cinematic. The hook is super catchy too, it seems like the whole track is elevated on the chorus and gives the track an extra layer.
Kodak Black - Eaze Your Mind: Kodak had a viral interview on Drink Champs last week and as a smart businessman he knew it would also be the perfect time to drop a new track. On this one he addresses a young lady he’s courting. He just tryna ease her mind, bring her into his world. She caught his eye and he wants her to be his baby girl.
Mariah The Scientist ft. Vory - 40 Days n 40 Nights: MTS dropped a new album this week called “To Be Eaten Alive”. Excellent offering and you know she has plenty of lyrics for Sir Jeffry Williams (Free Thugger). My favorite track is the collab with Vory. Mariah sings about respecting when her boothang has another situation going on. She’ll make those sacrifices, but selfishly she wants mans all to herself. Vory watching out for opp niggas. He asks how come shawty never checks on him. She’s the first thing on his mind when he’s lonely. He took the time to learn her body so he fucked her like nobody else ever did. But she switched on him. He fell in love with someone who was in love with someone else.
Cyhi & Pusha T - Mr. Put That Shit On: GOOD Music brothers Cyhi and Push dropped a new track this week and it’s all about the drip. Gucci, Chrome Hearts, Off White, Louis V, Bottega, Ferragamo, Fendi, Dior, Hermes, Richard Milles they put it all on. And they top it off with VVS diamonds of course.
Nappy Roots ft. Backbone - Rise & Grind: Aww Naww, Hell Yes! Nappy Roots dropped a new project this week called “Nappy4Life Part 1” Dope project, they stayed true to their roots and delivered their signature sound through the entire listen. My favorite track is this motivational anthem “Rise & Grind” with artist Backbone. Everyday they wake up, they gotta get their weight up to get where they're going. Now that they're up now, every time they touch down, you can see the greatness showing. Rise and Grind, are you gone shine?
Kid Cudi - ILL WHAT I BLEED: Cudders dropped a new loosie this week and it’s Vintage Cudi. He’s a Wizard and he uses that electronic distortion on his voice and a melodic flow on the chorus. It’s hella catchy, the beat, his flow and the overall vibe of the track. If he’s got a new project coming, I have a feeling it’s gonna be some heat.
Mary J. Blige & Vado - Still Believe In Love: Mary J still got it and ain’t gonna lose it. She’s back again with another soulful bop. This one has Vado rapping on the intro and outro and it’s reminiscent of those 90’s/2000’s Hip-Hop & R&B collabs like Hov & Mya’s “Best of Me”. It samples that one classic song (you’ll know it when you hear it) and it’s about holding on to the belief in love. Sometimes you’re sad and lonely when you haven’t found the one but you gotta hold on to the hope that it’s coming (and you won’t have to lower your standards either).
Chxrry22 ft. Offset - Favorite Girl: Canadian artist and XO signee Chxrry22 dropped a new project this week called “Siren”. My favorite track is the Offset collab “Favorite Girl”. It’s about the apple of Chxrry’s eye. Mans got a lot of girls in his face but Chxrry wants to be his Favorite Girl. Offset will put his Favorite Girl in stilettos and Jimmy Choo’s. If she goes with him, she’ll have a lot of fun.
LUM, Oliver Cronin & KILJ - Temptation: Another week, another great find on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. This week it’s from 3 artists I hadn’t heard of but they cooked up an absolute fire track. They can’t stand being out with them other girls. They could be out clubbin but they at home because they won’t settle for nothing less than that one and only special gal.
