The Hit List: week 133 (November 6 - November 12)
Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Vory & Fabolous - Dead Last: Ross and Meek dropped their collab album “Too Good To Be True” this week. Dope project, I loved that they cooked up a track with their MMG brother Wale. My favorite track is this collab with Vory & Fab. They use this track to say fuck everybody. Cats be talking bout them, and they feel a way about it. They say their peace and then don’t have shit else to say.
Lil Durk - Smurk Carter: Lil Durk released a fire loosie this week. The title is obviously homage to Weezy F Baby and a hint that LD’s spittin all bars and no melodies on this one. No hook either, he goes in rapping about the streets, his pops, his moms, and his crew. He still sipping double cups, he’s dripped out in the finest designer, and drives the most exotic of whips. He got the pole on him in case the opps get outta pocket.
Kodak Black - Close To Me: Yak dropped a new album this week called “When I Was Dead”. As you can see, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and he had plenty of introspective tracks where he speaks honestly about his trials, tribulations, and the pain he has to overcome on a daily basis. My favorite track “Close to Me” is one of those. He talks about being mentally done, physically drained, and fucked up emotionally. Spiritually he’s dead and he don’t wanna let no one in. He’s searching for true love and his soul’s aching. He knows he’ll make it through but he’s still going through it. Check out “When I Was Dead” and these highlights:
Hard Life
Lemme See
Came Thru Flushin
Right On Time
KYLE ft. Teezo Touchdown - Somethin Bout U: Teezo’s having a breakout year. I loved his track “Messy” on Rico Nasty’s last album. He dropped his own album (with star-studded features) and then he was featured multiple times on Drake’s new album “For All The Dogs”. He’s back featuring on a new track with Super Duper Kyle (who I randomly saw in Vegas last year). And of course it’s about the ladies. Their special lady is really different. Alotta girls are all the same but it’s something bout her that makes her stand apart.
Trippie Redd - 1716 Osage: T-Redd dropped a project this week called “Saint Michael”. I been bumpin 7AM in Ohio and this “1716 Osage” track heavy. The soul sample in the back really hooked me. Trippie’s lyrical flow and the distortion he uses on his ad libs fits perfectly with the beat. When he alters the flow in the middle it adds a special sauce.
Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz - Long Story Short: Tity & Weez are really loading up the clip for this “Welcome 2 Collegrove” project. I saw they got an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel this week and this is the second track they’ve dropped in the lead up. This one samples Project Pat and it has a 70’s Soul Sample. It’s a bop and it’s a perfect track to cruise to. Can’t wait for this album to drop. They both are in rare form.
Larry June & Cardo - Love Of Money: Larry June & Producer Cardo (Got Wings) dropped a new collab project this week called “The Night Shift” and it’s my ATF Larry project (Good Job Larry). I was just having dinner with the homie and he was telling me how much he was fucking with the Alchemist & June project and I told him this one’s better (he hasn’t heard it yet). There were so many great tracks to highlight, I really love “Love of Money” for the sample (it samples the Bone Thugs and Eazy E classic “Foe Tha Love of $”). June raps about what niggas have done for the love of money (often to their own detriment). He seen niggas change up on him and that’s prolly why he keeps the flame on him. He been going so hard and ain’t stopping no time soon. Check out “The Night Shift” and these standouts:
Clocked In
Pop Out (ft. Schoolboy Q)
Glasshouse Knockin
Stickin’ and Movin’
Armani White - BREATHE: Armani White continues to impress with his versatility and his evolution. He can make catchy radio tracks and he got bars for days. He’s back with a new track and it’s a WAV (Whole Ass Vibe). He talks his shit over the bouncy beat with an uptempo flow. The breathing sound effect and the hook make this one you gotta replay over and over. And the whisper flow slaps too. Tough Tune.
Rosemarie ft. Kalan.Frfr - Drop Me: So I saw this Rosemarie project in the R&B section of Apple Music’s new releases. It wasn’t until I listened to the whole thing that I saw it’s a deluxe to an album she dropped earlier this year “ROCK PAPER SCISSORS” this version called “ROCK PAPER SCISSORS: RECUT”. Super dope project, I added a few tracks from the original to my Serrato (I hadn’t heard them before). Out of the Deluxe tracks, I’ve been playing this Kalan.FrFr track the most, and you know when he hops on as a feature, he got that Ty Dolla feature magic.
Jack Harlow - Lovin On Me: Jack is a super duper star. That affords him the luxury of being himself and not having to conform. In that vein he dropped a track with the lines “I’m Vanilla baby, I’ll choke ya but I ain’t a killa baby” and it’s catchy AF. I’m not even White and I’m bumping this. The beat crazy and this will definitely be the anthem for White Boy Winter.
Stoop Lauren ft. 360 Zayy & BigBossMula - Take Off To The Moon: Stoop Lauren dropped a new project this week called “Step Bros”. I usually check out the features of an album to see if I wanna listen and I saw Childish Major featured on a track so I decided to give that track a listen. Absolute flames. I said Well Shit I gotta listen to the whole thing. That’s how I came across “Take Off To The Moon” Straight Gas Homie, I’ve been bumping it all week.
Big Moochie Grape - Workin: BMG dropped a new loosie this week and it knocks. All his life he been going hard. Whether it’s trappin or rappin, he’s puttin in that work. Ever since his Nextel been chirpin, he been workin. And he knows hard work pays off.
Austin Sour - Scandalous: I was not familiar with Austin Sour’s game before this week, He had 2 tracks on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist and both of them slapped. I saw he dropped a new project this week called “Euphoria” so I had to check it out. Super dope album, with crazy features and an assortment of vibes. My favorite track “Scandalous” has a catchy ass beat and has Austin lamenting the Scandalous hoes. If she on fuck shit, he stays away. But if she nasty, he all the way wit it. Check out “Euphoria” and these highlights:
Rick Owen
Look At Me Now (ft. Rick Hyde)
Off The Stoop (with G Perico)
Flee - LAST 4OUR: Flee dropped the deluxe to his most recent album “Ghost” this week. The Deluxe is fire. The melodic flow and the funny bars had me hooked. I had to repeat this “LAST 4OUR” track a few times (and of course it’s in the Serrato now). Other standouts from “Ghost” (Deluxe):
Madd Killz
FTS
Chris Brown ft. Fridayy - No One Else: Breezy dropped a new project this week called “11:11” with 22 tracks (11 +11) and it dropped on 11-11 at 11:11 (not really, but that’s how it was marketed). This project is special, easily one of my favorite CB joints ever. My favorite track is the Fridayy collab “No One Else”. It has that Club bass and has the guys singing to that special someone. She got mind control on them and they keep falling harder. They don’t wanna see her with No One Else, only them. They selfish in love. Check out “11:11” and these standouts:
Press Me
Very Special
Midnight Freak
Bouncing/G5
Make Up Your Mind
Red Flags
Millyz & Vory - BMF: Millyz’s stock been skyrocketing over the past year. He dropped a fire album and this is like his 3rd loosie in the last 90 days. This one features fellow rising star Vory who really blew up after being featured on Ye’s “Donda” (I was rocking with buddy back when he was King Vory). BMF is a dope track. It starts with a snap beat and has Vory singing about his ex going out sad. He gonna make her stand on the shit she said about him. He’s a BMF (Bad Mutha Fucka). Millyz vows to get his lick back. He been stacking racks and he prefers doggystyle over missionary.
Pacman Da Gunman - Many Men: All Money In’s Pacman Da Gunman dropped a new album this week called “Overtime”. Dope project, this re-erock of 50’s “Many Men” is one I had to run back to again and again. Check out “Overtime” and these highlights:
Broken
Say So (with Mbnel)
Heavyweight
Since You Left (ft. Don Bonelli)
Reuben Vincent - GRAND CHERRY: Charlotte spitter and Roc Nation signee Reuben Vincent dropped a new track this week. He dedicated the video to his best friend through thick and thin (his whip). It’s a lyrical clinic and you come to find out Grand Cherry refers to his Grand Cherokee and he spits about his mission. He won’t stop til’ he’s finished.
PinkPantheress ft. Central Cee - Nice to meet you: UK’s PinkPantheress dropped a new album this week called “Heaven knows”. Super dope project, most people know her from the Ice Spice track. I originally had a different favorite track on the album (the Rema collab) but this Central Cee collab got immediately added to the playlist and I’ve been playing ever since.
Ralo - First Day Out: Fam Goon! Ralo just got released from federal prison after 6 years for some weed (You in here, for some marijuana? - Name that movie!) The track is super flames. The big takeaway? This man loves Allah and encourages you to take your shahada and learn about Islam too. He says he can’t sign with Gotti because he has too much love for Dolph. And he also said there’s no beef with Moneybagg because that’s his Muslim brother.
Tee Grizzley ft. PnB Rock - What’s That: Tee Grizz dropped the Deluxe to his most recent project “Tee’s Coney Island” and my favorite Deluxe track is one that’s been out for some time. On this version Tee updates his verse and shouts out his loved ones. He also pays his respects to the late PnB Rock and describes what he would have done if he was at Roscoe's on that fateful day (instead of pulling out phones like the people there did). He also matches some of PnB’s bars on this new version.
Kwazii - Solo: Another week, another great find on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. This week it comes from Kwazii and he uses a melodic flow to promote his lone wolf lifestyle. He got purp in his cup and in his blunt (and he don’t like when the bitties touch him while he’s rolling up). The ladies can leave the party with him if they don’t take any photos. After he nuts, he kicks them out because he’s most comfortable solo dolo.
NBA Youngboy - My Address Public: YB dropped a new album this week called “Decided II”. Dope project, my favorite track is “My Address Public” (and there’s a video now, so him and his team must think this one is special too). It has that New Orleans bounce and finds Kentrell rapping about the Savage Life. He keeps the pistols on him and if you got the cajones to show up where he’s at, he’ll blow you out your sneaks (pause).
Kid Laroi ft. Future & BabyDrill - What’s The Move?: Kid LaRoi dropped a new album this week called “THE FIRST TIME” after dropping a few singles in the lead up. There’s some heat on this album. LaRoi raps to his shawty and asks What’s The Move? He doesn’t wanna waste time and wants some peace of mind. She wants double C (Chanel) so he went in and bought 3 of em. Future uses his melodic, hood crooner flow and buys his bitty a Richard Mille watch because he’s balling out the gym. He’s sipping mud while she sips wine. BabyDrill asks his girl to be his wife and invites her to take a flight. She wants Chanel, diamonds, and Balienciaga so BD will cop it all.
Aesop Rock - Aggressive Steven: Lyricist Aesop Rock dropped a new album this week called “Integrated Tech Solutions”. Excellent project. This Aggressive Steven track really hooked me. On it, A-Rock tells a story over live instrumentation. I won’t give it away, you gotta go listen. Other highlights from “Integrated Tech Solutions”:
Forward Compatibility Engine (ft. Rob Sonic)
Solid Gold
Luh Kel - Been Inside My Mind: Luh Kel dropped a new album called “Head Melodies”. It’s packed with quality R&B and I’ve been bumping this “Been Inside My Mind” all week, even at the gym (where I usually only listen to the gangsterest of musics). This the track to play when you’re smitten and shawty’s been running through your mind all day. Check out “Head Melodies” and these standouts:
Reminisce
Forever
Never Felt with You
Lola Brooke - Best Side: NY’s Lol Brooke dropped a new album this week called “Dennis Daughter”. Dennis was her pops and she mentions him throughout the project (he passed away). My favorite track “Best Side” samples that one song (you’ll know when you hear it). She spits hard bars and promises to always get hers. She warns those trying to fuck with her, she ain’t with the foolishness. She’s naturally a baddie, coming straight outta Bed Stuy. She tells the paparazzi they better get her Best Side (her left side).
BJ The Chicago Kid ft. Chlöe - Honey: BJ The Chicago Kid dropped a new album this week called “Gravy” and Grammy-nominated Engineer Parks of the Joe Budden Podcast called it one of the best albums he’s heard in years. It’s soulful, it’s funky, it has old school roots with a new school sound. My favorite track is the collaboration with Chlöe, “Honey”. It’s grown and sexy and they should make a video for it.
Lil Darius & Tay Keith - That’s Him: Lil Darius and Tay Keith dropped a collab project this week called “Yung N Turnt”. With Tay Keith fucking these niggas up you know every beat slapped. My favorite track “That’s Him” has kind of a mafia movie theme sound. Every time LD pulls up it feels like a holiday and everybody be saying “That’s Him!”
