The Hit List: week 136 (November 27 - December 3)
BigXThaPlug - Rock & Roll: BigXThaPlug has been on a hot streak. After his track “Whip It” set the airwaves on fire he’s been re-rocking classics and they all slap. He dropped a new project this week called “THE BIGGEST”. Dope project my favorite track “Rock N Roll” samples the Zapp & Roger smash hit “More Bounce To The Once” and Big X talks his shit and threatens the opps over the funky production. Perfect track to bump in the whip.
Bas ft. AJ Tracey - 179 Deli: Dreamville’s Bas linked with UK Heavyweight AJ Tracey for a new loosie. The beat has a Jersey Club bounce to it (heavy bass) and the guys use an uptempo flow to keep up with the beat. Definitely once that’ll go up in any club.
Big Scarr ft. Gucci Mane - Snot: RIP Scarr. A posthumous album was dropped from the slain Tennessee MC this week called “Frozone”. It’s a great album, this track with GuWop sticks out (and it’s been featured on playlists everywhere so it’s resonating with people). It sounds like that classic Gucci mixtape music. Scarr raps about putting boogers in his watch (diamonds obviously) that’s why it's titled Snot. Gucci is at home on this beat (it might even be sampled from one of his old tracks because it sounds so so Gucci).
Beyoncé - My House: The queen is back and no she ain’t bleach her skin. She’s back with a new track and it has a marching band feel (especially with the background vocals). It’s aggressive and the horns give it a triumphant sauce. She got bars and she lets the opps know she ain’t the one to play with. When she starts harmonizing she shows off her range (it’s not debatable that she’s one of the most talented humans to ever live). The beat flips and she surfs the new beat like Kelly Slater.
OMB Peezy ft. Tee Grizzley - Hell Yeah: OMB Peezy dropped a new project this week called “Le’Paris”. Dope project, I liked all the tracks he dropped in the lead up. My favorite album cut is this collab with Tee Grizzley. It has that classic 2000’s Trap sound with prominent keys and a snare loop. Peezy raps about people changing on him, he got a hot one for them. Hell yeah, you fucking right he got his pistol with him. Grizz catches the opps slippin and he’ll slide for anyone who slides for him. He grinded hard and now he shining hard. Other highlights from “Le’Paris”.
Think You Ready
The Streets
Seddy Hendrix - Still Lowkey: The Generation Now artist flipped SWV’s “Weak” for his original “Lowkey” and on this one he sampled Kanye, Jamie Foxx & Twista’s “Slow Jamz” but the message is the same. He’s smashing the cheaters and eaters and he won’t try to get in between them and their bf. He knows how to keep it Lowkey.
Lil Blade - Titos Flow: So I saw this album “I Shoulda Been Born In The 80’s” on the New Releases in Apple Music and I checked out the features and saw Lil Blade got some motion. I gave this a listen and I’ve had “Titos Flow” on repeat ever since. This that player shit, LB gotta be from Detroit based on the flow and the features (and him mentioning the Lions). Check out “I Shoulda Been Born In The 80’s” and these standouts:
Ain’t The Same
Just Stay Friends
Flying Down The Mile 2
Should’ve Been Born In The 80’s
NBA Youngboy - Run: Before I heard this track I had just finished listening to the Joe Budden Podcast and he finished that particular episode by calling YB’s music trash. I’m objective and I listened to this and it slapped. There are some YB tracks that will be in the Serrato forever and some stuff I don’t fuck with, but he’s been very consistent and “Run” is another good one, in my humble opinion. Check it out.
2FeetBino - I Promise: 2FeetBino dropped a new project this week called “ReBirth”. I forget where I first heard him but I recognized his name on a list of new releases and had to check it out. I’m glad I did. “I Promise” is special. He raps about his bae promising him her love. He promises his meat in return. He gives her diamonds too. He promises nothing but slugs for the opps and he also raps about missing his mama too. Check out “ReBirth” and these highlights:
Major Pain
When I Needed You
TyFontaine & HardRock - Giving Everything: TyFontaine dropped a new project called “264”. I’m still bumping a few tracks off his last project and was excited to hear this one. My favorite track is one of the Summrs collabs “Dos” and my favorite album cut is “Giving Everything” which sounds like it samples Tamia’s “My First Love” and finds TF asking where his shawty is at when he needs her. She’s so fine, he’ll give her everything. HardRock’s unique voice adds some extra sauce to his bars. Other standouts from “264”:
Dos (with Summrs & Johnny ft. TTM Dawg)
Fashion (with Lil Dre)
Charge It To The Game
Real Boston Richey ft. YTB Fatt - The Type: Florida Man Real Boston Richey dropped this A1 loosie with YTB Fatt. He talks his shit to the opps and lets the ladies know he’s too hot to handle. He’s the type you don’t fuck with and his opps the type to pee pee on themselves when he comes around.
Millyz & Benny The Butcher - Kobe Season: Barsmith Millyz dropped a new album this week called “Holy Water”. He rolled this album out with some excellent lead up singles and when I heard Benny open up this “Kobe Season” track, I immediately added it to the Serrato. It’s one of the best beats on the album and these 2 lyricists go at it like Magic and Bird in their prime. Check out “Holy Water” and these highlights:
Passion
Last Time
BMF (with Vory)
Chosen
Dave East & Cruch Calhoun - All I Need: Dave East & Cruch Calhoun dropped a new collab project called “30 For 30”. Dope project, “All I Need” stuck out and on it, they address the ladies over the jazzy beat. They a couple young fly niggas who got more than a lil bit, and all they need in this life of sin is a bad ting to help them elevate. Other highlights from “30 For 30”
30 for 30
Hood Day
Sean Leon - Oxygen: I hadn’t heard of Sean Leon but I saw this album featured on HNHH and decided to give it a listen. I read somewhere that it’s dedicated to his brother who passed away hence the name “In Loving Memory”. When I heard this “Oxygen” track I thought: “Man dude sound like Kanye on this” and then somewhere I read that Ye provided some vocals and I’d dare say he mighta helped with the production because this one is a standout for sure. Oxygen or Wi-Fi, Kanye asks his bae to make a choice. I’m choosing Oxygen but that’s me tho.
Wiz Khalifa - Dynamites Revenge: Wiz dropped a new project called “Decisions”. He must be indie and not playing the streaming game because his latest projects are never on the Hip-Hop New Releases list on Apple Music (but luckily other curators have his drops on their lists). My favorite track is “Dynamite’s Revenge” where he spits to a special lady. He’ll put her on a private plane and supply her with as much Kush and Shrooms as her heart desires. When he’s with her, he be feeling safe and she makes him feel like he’s floating in outer space.
Kaytranada & Rochelle Jordan - Lover/Friend: Kaytra dropped a 2 pack and it’s gas. I love the track with Rochelle Jordan. It has that signature funky, clubby, Electronic Kaytra production and RJ’s sultry vocals fit well on the track. She sings to a friend and lets him know that if he wants to be more than friends, a lover maybe, just let her know and she might throw him the cat. Submit a request and she might deliver the ass.
Domani - All Day: So one of TI’s other sons (not the one that just went viral) dropped an EP this week called “Before the Ink Dry”. It’s a great 4-Pack. I originally had the opening track “4 Lbs” as the standout track but once I heard the closing track “All Day” I had to switch it up. The background vocals with the repeated “All Day” and Domani pausing to let the beat breathe and the vocals to act as the bridge really made this one pop. It’s a vulnerable track, and when he raps about wanting to give up but not giving up when he sees his baby is what hooked me.
Erick The Architect, Joey Bada$$ & FARR - Shook Up: Flatbush Zombie Erick The Architect dropped a new loosie with fellow Beast Coast Collective member Joey Bada$$ and FARR. It’s funky and the guys rap (and sing) about a female who got them all Shook Up. Lust or life, they gotta make a choice.
Cash Trill ft. Lingo Luxx - Control: Cash Trill dropped a new project this week called “Above Wata 2”. My favorite track “Control” features Lingo Luxx and has a NY Drill Beat with some organ keys that give it a spooky Halloween vibe. This one is a club banger and when it comes on, all the girlies will lose Control.
Hanz On ft. Cortez - Just Came Home: Wu-Tang affiliate Hanz On dropped a new album this week called “Carthage” and it features most of the Clan plus more. All the boom bap heads will love this album. My favorite track “Just Came Home” is upbeat and Hanz & Cortez salute the homie who is fresh off the bus and just came home. The homie gets back to the kitchen like he never left.
AZ - Don’t Go Astray: God MC AZ dropped a new album this week called “Truth Be Told”. Dope project, it’s good to see the OGs still blessing us with excellent music. “Don’t Go Astray” is a track full of wisdom. You gotta claim it if you wanna attain it. It can go either way, so he prays that the real ones Don’t Go Astray.
King Harris ft. Domani - Father Like Sons: King has gone viral quite a few times but he should go viral for this track because it’s special. I don’t make it to the end of most tracks I listen to each week but this one I listened all the way through (and halfway through I forgot who the artists were and had to check because they was cooking). The beat is A1 and the brothers spit honest bars straight from the heart.
Antha Pantha - Sexual Vanilla: Harlem MC Antha Pantha dropped a new album this week called “Feline Season”. Dope project, “Sexual Vanilla” stood out for experimental sound. It’s a break from the norm, it’s soulful, and the chipmunked background vocals, piano keys, and her delivery that sounds like Randy Watson on “Soul Glo” all make this one special. Check out “Feline Season” and these standouts:
Miami
Yayo
BWA
Real Bitches
Elzhi & OhNo - Trick Dice: Elzhi dropped a new album this week called “Heavy Vibrato” and my favorite track is this collab with OhNo. The production sounds like a mix between Ye & Ryan Leslie. Elzi & OhNo got bars for days and they painted a picture as ill as Basqui(at). They the type to go to gambling parties with Trick Dice. Just turn up.
Dame D.O.L.L.A. ft. Prentice Powell - New Beginnings: Dame took a break from helping lead the Bucks to the final four of the Inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament to drop the deluxe to his most recent album, this version called “Don D.O.L.L.A Life Lately Edition”. “New Beginnings” with Prentice Powell (who’s featured on multiple Deluxe tracks) stuck out as it is a reflection of Dame’s journey, not only moving to a new city to play for a new team but also his relationship status, tightening up his circle, and trying to raise three young children amidst all the change.
Other Tracks/Projects That Dropped This Week
