The Hit List: week 141 (January 1 - January 7)
03 Greedo - Been Watching You: 03 been on fire since he got out the pen. The features, the projects, everything. He dropped a new Soundcloud tape this week called “Fucc Everybody” and it’s a slapper. All gas no brakes. It was hard to pick a favorite, I kept running back “Remember That One Time” and when “I Been Watching You" came on, I had a new favorite. It samples the Jodeci smash hit “Come and Talk To Me” and Greedo shows out on this and all the tracks on the project. He gets in his melodic bag and has some tracks for ladies and some for the squad. Do yourself a favorite and check out “Fucc Everybody” and these highlights:
Proceed To The Route
Remember That One Time
Glocc In The Booth
BabyTron - New Year Same Tron: Tron hit Times Square to bring in the New Year and dropped this track (and accompanying video) to celebrate. It has an 80's R&B vibe and BT goes in. The tempo is slower than most of his tracks but that didn’t slow him up (see what I did there). This one got added to the rotation immediately.
SDot Go - Know My Name: S Dot dropped one of the few new projects this week, his called “Free Sdot: Till It’s Backwards” which leads me to believe mans might be locked up right now. Dope project, “Know My Name” stood out to me, probably for the sample of 50’s “21 Questions”. It obviously has an NY Drill twist and SDot questions his shawty’s allegiance to him and wonders if she would be with him if he wasn’t poppin and didn’t have that scrilla. He’s getting her money, flowers, and massaging her feet, so she should be satisfied in more ways than one.
Finesse2Tymes ft. BG - Gangstafied: This track went viral for BG’s perceived diss to Wayne (which he later stated was praised mixed in with a jab) but I Iistened to the whole track and it’s a certified bop. Finesse goes in for over 16 bars, talkin his shit and dropping jewels over the A1 beat. BG’s verse is hard too (pause) and he goes into graphic detail on what prison life was like (he was beating his meat to magazine pics).
DJ Booker ft. NLE Choppa - Big Homie: DJ Booker dropped a new collab project this week with NLE Choppa called “The Chosen Ones”. My favorite track “Big Homie” has those real player vibes. NLE raps smashing all the bitties. Some of em, he hit once, some he just gets dome then sends them home. He’s down with OPP and she may be your main but she’s his sneaky link.
Lil Tecca - Down With Me: Thank you Tecca! The rapper who blew up as a teen sensation is all grown up now as evidenced in his video by multiple grown women shaking ass on him and the marijuana cigarettes. These days he doesn’t need anybody but he shows love to the ones that are Down With him.
Ann Marie - Hello (Nice To Meet You): I saw a new project in the R&B section of Apple Music called “Poison” and gave it a listen. This was my first time hearing Ann Marie and it’s clear she’s a star. The first track “Goated” is a masterpiece, in the classic R&B mold. “Hello (Nice To Meet You)” samples one of my favorite songs Lil Jon’s & Oobie’s “One Night Stand”. She uses this track to shade one of her man’s old tings. He puts shawty in her place and lets her know it’s best not to test her. Check out “Poison” EP. It goes from start to finish.
Casey Veggies - Put The City On: Mr Veggies dropped a new track showing love to his hometown, the City of Angels. It has West Coast summertime vibes. Casey put the city on his back and always has LA on his ball cap. He’s trying to run up a 100 million then fall back. He’s quick to cut a chick off if she’s dead weight, but if she breathes life into him, he’ll beat cheeks so hard the bed breaks.
Erick The Architect ft. George Clinton - Ezekiel’s Wheel: Flatbush Zombie, Erick The Architect, got with Funk Legend (and Jersey’s Own) George Clinton for this new track. Erick goes in over the downtempo boom bap beat and raps about his come up and also drops gems. It has a bit of a Motown vibe. George gives us some spoken word and encourages us to do the best we can, then Funk it.
The Game & Big Hit ft. TeeFlii - Cutthroat: The Game dropped a new collab project called “Paisley Dreams” with his Blood brother Big-Hit (Hit-Boy’s pops). With Hit-Boy producing, the project has that new West Coast sound with all gangsta anthems (and that viral Big-Hit freestyle). My favorite track was this collab with Tee-Flii. It has some Zapp & Roger vibes and as the album was playing I had to take a look at my phone to make sure I noted this one. The guys are Cutthroat but they still bros.
Luh Tyler & Tony Shnoww - POP OUT: These two rising stars dropped a new collab track (I’m pretty sure they’ve collabed before.) “POP OUT” has some Christmas bells interpolated and it has a laid back sound. Luh Tyler warns against cuffing hoes and as soon as he gets up every morning, he gets to the guap. He stays out the way and is focused on the pay. Before Tony Pop’s Out, he needs the front and the back end. The only thing he likes outside of rap is the money. He ain't the type that’ll politic with ya, but he’ll hit a lick with ya.
