The Hit List: week 145 (January 29 - February 4)
Philty Rich & EBK Jaybo - BIG DIFFERENCE: Big Philthy dropped the Deluxe to his most recent album “King of Oakland”. The added tracks are dope (there are six new tracks but I was a little salty because they were mixed in and not added to the beginning or the end). This track “BIG DIFFERENCE” is special (and it makes sense that they shot a video for this one). It samples the Da Brat banger “Funkdafied” and the message is simple, it’s a Big Difference between the way him and his crew moving around and getting money and the way other crews are moving around and getting money. Philthy’s doing it bigger and better. Other standouts from “King of Oakland” (Deluxe):
7 HUSTLES
OAKLAND TO DFW (with Lil CJ Kasino, Boogotti Kasino & Mac God Dbo)
Don Toliver - Bandit: Soon to be father Don Toliver dropped a new loosie this week (with an accompanying video). It has Rock & Roll vibes and Don gets in his Psycho Bandit bag. He raps about getting cash and getting fried. Every time he walks in the strip joint, all the dancers make it buss (Buss It!)
ALLBLACK ft. LaRussell - CRÈME BRÛLÉE: Cali’s ALLBLACK dropped a new album this week called “Slow Motion Better Than No Motion”. Dope project, this collab with LaRussell was an instant highlight (and I added it to the playlist immediately). LaRussell is one of the most underrated in the game and that bar that he’s Martin Luther King but he’s Webbie too is one of the best bars of 2024 so far. He’s having fun and you can tell through the music. Cash Rules Everything Around Black (Creme Brulee). He ain’t buy a Benz, he bought a Toyota Corolla because he spends wisely. Check out “Slow Motion Better Than No Motion” and these highlights:
C Room
Get Somebody Else To Do It
Tyga - Sensei: The Tyga train never stops. He’s been making bangers since “Coconut Juice” (which was over 10 years ago) and he’s still at it, this week with his new track “Sensei”. It’s a certified bop, (with over 4 million views on YT in only 3 days). The uptempo hi-hat loop and the vocal loop in the background make this one stand out. He uses the Biggie line from “Crush On You” (I’m a slut, I’m a ho, I’m a freak) and this will be going up in the club for the rest of 2024.
King T3Z - IM Him: King T3Z (pronounced Tez) dropped a new project this week called “When Pigs Fly”. I was impressed by his rapping from track 1 and I’ve had the braggadocious “IM Him” on repeat. When he walks in the door, cameras come out. He’s fresh as fuck, so grab your ho. He gets bands everyday, but he wants more. He’s Him, crack a bottle, make a toast.
Icewear Vezzo - Different Day: Vezzo dropped a new project this week called “Live From The 6” and the DaBaby Collab “Perfect” was the first track that stood out (go check that one out). “Different Day” has some Latin vibes (the strings prolly). Same shit, Different Day. Niggas ain’t change, hoes aint change and IV got hella money in the bank.
RJMrLA - Just a Fuck (Funds): First off, snap beats are damn near undefeated. RJ usually doesn’t use a melodic flow, but it’s apropo for this track and the subject matter (the ladies). RJ knows the ladies don’t always want love, they just wanna have fun (and funds).
Kash Doll - Fawk Em: Kash Doll dropped a 2 pack off and this “Fawk Em” record is the one. First off it samples one of my favorite tracks “Real Big” by Manny Fresh. Arkeisha is on 10 as she delivers sharp bars to the haters, the opps, fake hoes & snake hoes. All day, everyday it’s (Fuck) Em.
Zacari - Ocean: TDE’s resident male R&B artist Zacari dropped an A1 track this week. It’s downtempo, with strings, and on it, Zac sings his main damie. Many lifetimes ago, she was an ocean, and he was a shark ready to flow with the tide. He couldn’t fight if he tried. Everywhere she goes, she makes everything go. This one will get tons of radio play.
2KBaby - I Do (Lost File): This loosie from 2KBaby has acoustic production and he uses a melodic delivery to tell us how he feels. It’s introspective, unique, and complex in its simplicity.
Mario Judah - Kill Dead Man: Rap-Rocker Mario Judah dropped a new project this week called “Endure”. I didn’t think I would like it but he blends his emo delivery with Hip-Hop production and it’s fused with those Rock vibes. I ran this track back a few times, I think the chant on the hook (and Mario’s delivery) adds to the replayability. If you’re one of his opps, watch out, he got that thang on him.
Dthang Gz - Last Day In: Rapper Dthang Gz was recently released from the bing and he dropped this to celebrate his freedom and to proclaim that he ain’t going back. It samples Annie’s “Hard Knock Life” and flips it into a NY Drill track. He getting money and smashing the thooties. He’s just tryna buy his momma a house and dodge one time.
YK Osiris - Time Goes By: YK dropped this gem this week. The production is something we’d hear Drizzy on and YK sings his heart out to his special lady. He can give her what she needs, he just asks her to come through and throw the cooch his way. Time goes by, and it makes him think about her in a different light. The city feels so lonely without her in his life, he asks her to come back to his side.
