The Hit List: week 146 (February 5 - February 11)
Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign ft. Freddie Gibbs - Back To Me: Big Titty, Butt Naked Beautiful Women don’t fall out the sky you know? Well after much anticipation Ye & Dolla Sign dropped Part 1 of their “Vultures” project. Clubby vibes throughout (this ain’t Gospel Ye) and this track with Freddie Gibbs has been on repeat since it dropped. They sampled the line from Jay (and Silent Bob) in Dogma and flipped it into an absolute club banger. Gangsta Gibbs gave us some of the best bars in 2024 so far and this one will be in heavy rotation for a long time.
Kid Cudi & Denzel Curry - Black Ops: I would have never thought these two artists would collab but they both make avant garde, Alt-Hip-Hop so the spirit of their music is similar. “Black Ops” is an A1 track. It has an experimental sound and Kid Cudi leaves the melodic flow on the bench and spits straight bars. He handles the hook too. Denzel uses a stutter flow where he stops then goes and allows the beat to breathe. His flow is actually on the melodic side (and a little pitched up). Know Your Role - A Hero.
FRVRFRDY - 24FRAMES: The beat had me hooked from the opening note. The heavy bass and that electronic loop. FF needed somebody and shawty is somebody. He’s giving all of himself to her and he’s within arms reach whenever she needs him. She gets him sprung.
Fivio Foreign & Sheff G - Waiting: The current king of NY Drill, Fivio, dropped a new album this week called “Pain & Love 2”. Dope project, Fivi stays true to his drill roots. He got rising star (and fellow NY Driller) Sheff G (and the BreadWinners in house producer Great John) for this one. Sheff kicks it off and asks what you Waiting for. He likes smashing twins and asks them to bring friends. Don’t get it twisted, he still got the blicky on him. Fivi got hella bitties on his body. He’s one of them niggas and everywhere he go they say he the realest.
Kaliii - Bozo: I listened to this one 3 times because the 1st time I didn't think I was paying attention so I listened again. When I listened that 2nd time, I was like this shit is fire but I had to run it back a 3rd time to make sure and my ears were not deceiving me. This track is special. It’s dedicated to some fuck nigga who did her greasy. They broke up because he was cheating so she aired him out. The beat samples Keyshia Cole’s “Love” which is ironic because I doubt she feels an ounce of love for dude anymore (jk she prolly still love that nigga).
Little Simz - Far Away: UK’s Little Sims dropped a project this week called “Drop 7”. It has that epic sound (drums and horns and shit) and of course it’s full of substance. My favorite track “Far Away” has some UK Drill & Club vibes and finds Sims using a melodic flow to reminisce and ask her boo thang to wait around for her.
TyFontaine - Adventure Time (Racks On My Body): TyFontaine already has a few tracks in my Serrato and he added another this week with this catchy track. The sound is very Carti-esque. Ty ain’t worried bout shit because he got racks on his body. The ladies like to lick the tats on his body. He likes the finest things in life and works hard to afford them for him and his queen.
1999 Write The Future, Amaarae & Warren Hue - cool water for the night: So this group started popping up in recent weeks with big name features including Rick Ross and Offset. Well they dropped a project this week called “hella” and it features even more Hip-Hop superstars. It’s an eclectic mix of sounds. My favorite track “cool water for the night” follows a track that plays like a radio countdown (dope track) . It leads into this track and this is the #1 song on the countdown. It has funky, 80’s R&B vibes. Downtempo, whoever’s singing first sings to his one and only and lets her know that no one else can set him free. I think that’s Amaarae singing the second part and she sings from the female perspective and she lets her guy know there’s many fish in the sea but none like her
Honey Bxby - Fkn Him Too: I’m a sucker for a sample and while I don’t bump too many tracks about sharing meat, this one flips SWV’s “I’m So Into To You” into an anthem letting someone know that her man is their man (kinda like SZA did that one time).
Griff Tyler - Fall’s Back: Saw a new project in the Apple Music new Hip-Hop playlist called “God Willing” by Griff Tyler and gave it a listen. Dope project, mans can rap. My favorite track “Fall’s Back” samples the same song Stunna Gambino sampled on “What If?”. Griff raps to the one that got away. He’s asking her to spin the block because he misses having her around. He wants to pick back up where they left off (and drown in the kitty, no pulling out).
Usher ft. Latto - A-Town Girl: Alright so U-S-H-E-R just murdered the Superbowl halftime show with all the guests, roller skates, heavy petting niggas wives, JD in a schoolboy outfit, shit was bananas. He dropped an album as well called “Coming Home” (smart to capitalize on the moment). I really liked his flip of Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” and who better for the guest verse than A-Town girl Latto.
Chow Lee - Porno Story: Chow Lee dropped a two-pack this week and “Porno Story” was my favorite (both were hard tho). It has the drill hi-hat loop and it interpolates New Edition's smash hit “Can you Stand The Rain”. Chow gets nasty with the bars, and you can put this one on the late night playlist (for when you smashing the Gen Z bitties).
Ye Ali ft. Arianna Reid & DCMBR - The Intermission: Ye Ali dropped a new EP this week called “Ye Ali & Chill 3”. “Intermission” stands out for its smooth R&B sound and Arianna Reid’s vocals and Ye’s airy bars. This is a certified bop and I’m for sure smashing my shorty to this one (jk my girl left me…).
Duke Deuce - MURDER: Double D dropped a loosie this week and while I don’t support violence, I do support this track. It samples the same song Nas sampled on “Surviving The Times” and Duke dropped a video with it. He ain’t a black belt but them choppers do karate. He gon’ wipe a nigga nose. Where he come from, all they know is (song title).
