The Hit List: Week 150 (March 4 - March 10)
4batz ft. Drake - act ii: date @ 8 (Remix): So this 4batz nigga bursted on the scene with his 2nd track “act ii” and I was late to the party (I heard it well after it debuted). It caught fire and Drizzy hopped on the remix this week (par for the course) and also signed mans to OVO. He adds some melodic sauce to the remix and goes in on the more downtempo beat change.
Bizzy Banks - NYC: NY driller Bizzy Banks dropped a new project this week called “GMTO Vol. 2”. Dope project, “NYC” got added to the playlist instantly. It has a chipmunked soul sample and the bass knocks. Bizzy slid and talked shit to the opps and the haters. No hook required. Check out “GMTO Vol. 2” and these highlights:
Who Ready (with CHASETHEMONEY)
Maybach Music (ft. Shawny Bin Laden)
Did That (ft. Luh Tyler)
Stunnaman02 - Eat A Salad: I couldn’t believe my ears hearing this track. As a nigga who has a BS in Applied Nutrition, I appreciated Stunnaman telling bitch niggas to eat a salad. They minds is poisoned because they don’t keep their diets balanced. This should be playing on the radio non-stop (but they’ll prolly be playing some bullshit…)
392 Lil Head - Letter From the Soul: So I hadn’t heard of 392 Lil Head but he dropped a new project called “24 Year” and I saw it featured on a new release list, so I gave it a listen. “Letter From the Soul” was a standout. It has piano keys and a melodic vocal loop that gives it a heartfelt feel. He raps about making it out the trenches but not abandoning gang. He’s a good dad to all his kids and he loves his girl to death. He also had to cut off some loved ones because they envious.
Danny Towers, Chow Lee & Lonny Love - Sexiest Soul: Grown & Sexy NY Drill. This one samples that one song (you’ll know when you hear it). The first line is “I’m trying to fuck your mouth” and I instantly added it to the playlist. The guys get into more freaky antics like nutting in shorty eye and making her blind (Damn Daniel). They also are opposed to fucking on the couch (as am I in most situations, can’t get no leverage ju heard).
Swoosh God - Fam & The People: NY Driller Swoosh God dropped a new album this week titled “Still Swoosh”. The whole album slaps. My favorite track “Fam & The People” is a dedication track. Swoosh lets us know who he does it for (see title). Other highlights from “Still Swoosh”:
My Life My Dream (ft. Chow Lee)
Nah Fr
Sugarhill Ddot - Outside: Big week for the Drill guys. DDot dropped a new loosie and it might be my new favorite song of his. He uses a melodic flow and raps to his LA shawty. It’s just him and her mashing out in the whip. No matter where they are, she makes it clap. She tells DDot she got his back but he suspects that may be cap.
27Delly ft. Fergie Baby, Niko Brim & Kai Ca$h - Wassup: Another artist I hadn’t heard of, 27 Delly, dropped a new project called “Keep it Jiggy”. Dope project, this track and the one with Capella Grey really go up. “Wassup” is a club banger with a catchy hook. Club going up, bottles popping, sexy ladies in the section and the guys is sayin Wassup. Check out “Keep it Jiggy” and these standouts:
Let It Go (ft. Capella Grey)
Kiss it up 2 Heaven (ft. Butta)
Bonita
Mark Battles - Superman: I got the Mark Battles track “Used to Be” in heavy rotation so I was excited to see he dropped a new track. It’s epic, triumphant and Mark boldly proclaims to feeling like Superman (with a Super Tan, because he’s Black, duh). It’s a cold world but he’s so thorough. His mans is a shooter so be easy or he will take you out the future man.
Big Sad 1900 - Therapy 4: More new gas. Big Sad 1900 (great name) dropped a new album called “My Side, They Side & The Truth”. It’s hella introspective and especially the track “Therapy 4”. First off, he gives a shoutout to the dead homies and promises to bury the opps in the dirt. He raps about crying when his grandpa died and even though he beefs with the homies he won’t slide on them. He’s trying to deal with all this stress and also raise his kids. It’s a lot sometimes but he uses this track to vent. Every real nigga need a lil therapy. Other highlights from “My Side, They Side & The Truth”:
King of Los Angeles
October 18th
Gave You Everything
Quavo & Rich The Kid - Real One: This one of them ones. Good to see these brothers back working again. Beat is crazy and they use a back and forth cadence to take turns killing the beat. They rap about they bottom bitties (the the Real Ones). They down for whatever and when they tryna feel something, she’s the one they call.
Quando Rondo - Damn Fee: Never Broke Again dropped a compilation project called “Compliments of Grave Digger Mountain”. This Quando Rondo track is a highlight. QR lets the ladies know he ain’t fucking for free (although he might let her chew his meat for the freeski). He’s on the block with glocks and he keeps lawyers on retainers to get him out of jams. If you looking for him, he’s on a rubber band spree.
Ransom & Harry Fraud - The Losses: Ransom is one of the best lyricists in the game (and maybe the most underrated too). He dropped a new collab project with Harry Fraud called “Lavish Misery” and his flow on Fraud beats is a match made in heaven. My favorite track “The Losses” finds Ransom rappin about the fruits of his labor (including Steak & Lobster at Sal & Pepe’s) and private flights overseas. He grew out the concrete and knows that even though he’s focused on winning, he won’t forget The Losses (and the lessons).
CJ Fly ft. Anoyd - DENZEL IN FLIGHT: I feel like New Yorkers make up 75% of this week’s list. Keeping it going, CJ Fly dropped a new album this week called “baited”. This track with ANOYD is my favorite and it’s not just the soul sample beat, the bars and flows are top tier. CJ was a beast on the beat and ANOYD surprised me because this didn’t seem like his bag but mans is versatile.
Mike, Tony Seltzer, Earl Sweatshirt & Tony Shhnow - On God: Mike & Tony Seltzer dropped their collab project “Pinball” this week. Earl slid on “On God” and he used a Mike-Type flow to start the track (and their voices kind of sound the same so that was a dope transition). Tony Shhnow fit in well on the beat even though his regular flow is different than theirs (more like Rich The Kid) he flowed like the other guys and it gives the whole track a cohesive feel. I love the Uzi Vert bar, all my friends in the dirt too.
LNDN DRGS (Jay Worthy & Sean House) ft. K-Dee - The Fee is Mine: Jay Worthy (with his producing partner Sean House as LNDN DRGS) dropped a new project called “Affiliation 2”. All the tracks have an Ol Skool West Coast vibe. My favorite track “The Fee is Mine” is funky and the guys use that ol skool Hip-Hop flow and rap about their Cali antics. When it comes to the bread, the Fee is theirs. You can’t have it. Check out “Affiliation 2” and these highlights:
Bolt 45 (ft. Clyde Carson)
Fun (ft. ALLBLACK)
Sepulveda (ft. Trae The Truth)
Kenny Mason - JUMPIN IN: Kenny Mason is prepping for a new project (should drop next week) and he dropped a 2 pack in the lead up. My favorite of the two, “JUMPIN IN” is a chill tune where Kenny shouts out his hometown (ATL) and raps about his come up and his willingness to dive in the deep end to get to the bag (hence the title). He also calls back to his breakout single “Hit” on the hook.
Sy Ari Da Kid - Do Good By You: Firstly, Sy Ari’s output has been high over the last 2 years (from what I remember). It seems like he’s always dropping. He dropped some new shit, an album called “Happily Never After”. It’s full of melodic, lovey dovey tracks. On “Do Good By You” he sings to his soulmate. She gives him peace of mind and his goal is to link with her soul, he don’t just want what's between her thighs. He knows niggas be on her body, but he hopes she feels the same about him and holds it down.
Sinead Hartnett - The Most: A lil White Soul for ya headtop. I heard less than 30 seconds of this and added it to the list. This might be the best beat on this week’s list and Sinead’s voice is (chef’s kiss). She talking down on some wasteman, he be playing with her mind, driving her mad. He does the most, then loves her bad. She uses the track to blow off some steam and if she looking for a real nigga that’ll hold it down and wipes his ass well, tell her to hit my line.
Tony Shhnow ft. 3AG Pilot - Animal Crossing: Tony been blowing up, showing up, and Shhnowing up (I’ll see myself out). He goes in over this grimy beat and warns the opps that he’s in the spinning mood. He got chickens in the coop (like Animal Crossing). 3AG Pilot won’t beef with broke niggas and he got the tool on him while the opps leave it in the whip (because they wasn’t boy scouts and boy scouts are always prepared).
Brandy Haze - Karma: Brandy Haze dropped a new project called “Sad Girl SZN” and it’s flames. It has a 2000’s R&B feel and Brandy goes in on a bitch nigga (prolly named Bryan, I know hella bitch niggas named Bryan with a y). There’s a reason she kicked mans to the curb and ever since, she’s felt a weight lifted off of her. He was holding her back and now she’s free like a bird yeah.
JAE5 & Lojay ft. Tyler ICU & Sha Sha - Dishonest: Afrobeats producer Jae5 dropped a collab EP with Lojay titled “Loveless”. My favorite track “Dishonest” has JAE5’s signature sound and the ladies sing about a Dishonest dude (prolly Bitch Nigga Bryan again…see above). Mans is jealous and dishonest and they’re over the fuckery. Only honest man dem from here on out.
