The Hit List: week 151 (March 11 - March 17)
AZ Chike ft. Veeze - Loc Dawg: AZChike dropped a new album “Chizzle” last week (but I heard it this week, and it’s fire, so it’s on the list). It slaps from the opening track to the end and this track with Veeze got instantly added to the Serrato. The Detroit-type beat is crazy (it has a Jazzy Vibe) and a super catchy hook that sounds like it was recorded from a prison phone. Check out “Chizzle” and these highlights:
Intro (The Notebook)
Right 2 (with Rucci)
Luv My Bitch
Wock Me Home
Trippie Redd - LWRW: Easily my favorite drop of the week. From Trippie’s versatile delivery (he switches up bars to melodic from one line to the next) to the beat that sounds a lil like the classic “Let Me Love You Down” this is a song I’ll be playing for a very long time.
Kenny Mason - Chosen: Kenny Mase dropped a new project called “9” this week (aptly with 9 tracks). My favorite track “Chosen” is triumphant and Kenny uses an uptempo flow to rap about his glow up, all the paper he’s stacking up, and how he’s figured things out.
Dom Corleo - TBT: A new loosie from Dirty Dom. It has a loopy, electronic sound, Dom raps about his designer items, his VIP status in the club, and his drive to be way more than basic. He’s addicted to money and beating cheeks. No matter what it is, if he wants it, he’s gonna buy it.
Justin Timberlake - What Lovers Do: J-Tim dropped a new album this week called “Everything I Thought It Was”. Dope project, it’s got some traditional R&B, some Pop-y tracks and some Funky tracks. My favorite track “What Lovers Do” was produced by Timberland and these 2 have made magic over the years. This is another A1 track and it has that signature Timbo sound. Justin’s vocals make this one a super standout. The breakdown when the beat drops out is one of my favorite parts. Check out “Everything I Thought It Was” and these standouts:
Technicolor
Infinity Sex
Love & War
John Mackk - Pose For Me: Another week, another great find on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. This one is a banger and on it, John confesses to have a thing for bad bitties. He won’t buy her ass because he likes titties. And he never tricking so if he buy shawty a bag, mind yo business.
Soldier Kidd - Woo Baby: Florida Man Soldier Kidd dropped a new album this week called “Life Before Death”. This “Woo Baby” track samples the LL Cool J & New Edition track “Candy” and the hook is catchy as fuck. This was another immediate add to the playlist. It’s like a new Florida gangsta love song.
Locksmith ft. Rexx Life Raj & Jane Handcock - Pray For Me: Richmond spitter Locksmith dropped a new album this week called “No Atheists In Foxholes”. Dope project, Locksmith’s a lyricist with a positive message yet he meshes well with anyone on the track including all the Bay’s finest he got on the album from, Raj and Su to SOB x RBE brothers. This track is from the heart and it touched my soul (pause?) I added it to the playlist immediately and the message is something we all can relate to.
Maxo Kream - No Then You A Hoe: Maxo dropped a new loosie and it’s a gem. It has a minimalist soul-sampled beat. Maxo talks about the stress that comes with success, including his homies pocket watching him. If they ask for some bread and he tells them No then they tell other homies that Maxo a Hoe (hence the title).
Nu Sace - Make It Rain: Nu dropped an EP this week called “Almost There”. I still have his recent drop “Raw” in heavy rotation and I also love “Belize” from this new EP. “Make It Rain” is an NY Drill track with frenetic beat and a catchy sped up vocal loop in the background. Nu uses a melodic flow to rap about a shorty who has that juicy coochie. All day and all night she be making it rain.
Lil Rez - Night Shift: Lil Rez dropped a new project this week called “Spooky” and this “Night Shift” track got me in a chokehold. It samples the Daft Punk smash hit “Around The World” (and it samples it well). Shout out to whoever produced this and shout out to Rez for sliding on this one.
Chief Keef & Mike WiLL Made It ft. 2Chainz - PULL-UP GHOST CLAN: Sosa and Mike Will dropped a new collab project called “Dirty Nachos”. This track with 2 Chainz had an older version with Swae Lee but this version with Tity Boi is equally fire (if not even better).
Shooter Gang Kony - Turn Me Up: I found this one on YouTube early in the week and it’s a bop. Kony talks about smashing chicken heads and knocking the soul out herbs. He gon’ let his stick blam til he hears sirens. Turn him up because he’s 30’d up.
Jay Critch - Absent: Jay Critch dropped a new project this week called “Humble Giant”. “Absent” is a highlight. On it, he raps about his come up and how he had to get it on the road. His heart turned cold and he smoked weed to ease the pain. He’s still with his day ones because he knows they won’t fold.
Mary J Blidge & Vado ft. A Boogie wit Da hoodie - Beautiful Life All Stars: Vado and Mary J have some great musical chemistry. This is their second track to appear on The Hit List (and may be their second track ever). They add A Boogie on this one and they sample the same track Jadakiss & Nino Man sampled on “I Hate You” (one of my favorite tracks of all time).
Kodie Shane - Letting Go: Kodie Shane dropped a new project this week called “Young Hot & Vulnerable”. Dope project, she uses a melodic flow on it to get in her grown & sexy bag. My favorite track “Letting Go” finds her getting cheated on and asking her ting if it’s best if Kodie just lets her go. She’s still hurt from her past. She goes to therapy and smokes for the stress (no drinking tho). The best solution might be just to move on.
