The Hit List #23: (Sep 27 - Oct 3)
Meek Mill - On My Soul: The Return of the Titans 2021 continues as Meek drops his latest album “Expensive Taste”. It was very much an evolution for Meek. A good chunk was delivered melodically, he collabbed with a lot of the young talent and found a pocket we haven’t seen him explore too often. On “On My Soul” he reflects about his journey so far. The ups and downs, being broke to being rich. Being locked up after the success. It’s been a crazy journey for the Philly bull so far, but the best is yet to come! Check out these other standouts from “Expensive Pain”:
Intro (Hate On Me)
Outside (100 MPH)
Sharing Locations (ft. Lil Baby & Lil Durk)
Me (FWM) [ft. A$AP Ferg]
Love Train
Tweaking (ft. Vory)
Love Money
Blue Notes 2 (ft. Lil Uzi Vert)
Halo (ft. Brent Faiyaz)
Flamerz Flow
Skylar Grey, Eminem, Polo G & Mozzy - Last One Standing: This one’s from the Venom 2 soundtrack and features a line never before heard in hip-hop “I ball on em, Bill Cartwright”. Thanks Polo G! Mozzy warns snitches to think twice about their actions and also describes the pounds of diamonds that adorn his body. The track really turns up on Em’s closing verse, beat flips and he tailors his flow to it and it's masterful. Just go listen.
Wale ft. J. Cole - Poke It Out: Wale gearing up to drop his new album “Folarin 2” later this month. He got with his frenemy Jermaine Cole and producers Cool & Dre for this flip of Q-Tip’s “Vivrant Thing”. Made for the radio and the club, it’s for the ladies to shake they ass to. Big booties, small booties, all booties, this one is for every body.
JPEGMAFIA - HAZARD DUTY PAY!: Peggy might be gearing up for a drop, fresh off dropping “TRUST!” he’s back again with this track containing a soul sample. Kind of a change of pace for the NY artist. He talks that shit on this one and celebrates all the weapons, pussy, and cars he’s stocked up on. He’s a true creative and a visionary.
Icewear Vezzo ft. RMR - Hustle Hard: Detroit MC Icewear Vezzo released a new project this week, “Rich Off Pints 2”. He’s been dropping consistently throughout the summer and this album is the product of his grinding. Great contrast on this track, bars from IV and a melodic hook from mystery nigga RMR. The guys talk about having to grind from the bottom, food stamps, warming the house with the stove, fatherless families and faith in God. Tough Tune. Also from “Rich Off Pints 2”:
5 Milli
Mudd Baby
Sippin (ft. Babyface Ray)
Chamber Brothers
Ghetto Ice (ft. Rio Da Yung OG)
Tear the Club Up (ft. Future)
Old English
Amaal - Heaven: Who is Amaal? At first I thought she was Clooney’s wife but this is a different Amaal. Heaven is already one of my favorite R&B songs of 2021. Automatic addition to the Late-Night Playlist. With a beat that has the bed squeak from “Some Cut” and Amaal’s sultry voice, when she asks you to “Open up the gates of Heaven, I’m your lucky number 7” you better open up nigga!
Burna Boy & Polo G - Want It All: Burna Boy kinda poppin out right now. After featuring on Jon Bellion’s track last week, he’s back with one of his own (with a Polo G feature to boot). This is another one about the grind. “Remember when them say they don’t believe in me no more, I was sleeping on the ground on the cold floor, Whole time I was grinding, I was trying to achieve, Working night and day, you know my people no dey sleep”. Now BB got all the Louis V, Dior, Bottega and 6 figure rings. He leveled up! Polo G made it out the gutter now he’s getting money and having protected sexual relations with many many women.
Lil Wayne & Rich the Kid - Headlock: Rich & Weezy been partners for a minute. They been skateboarding together all around the world for years now (the full validity of this statement is unknown. They could’ve just skated one time in Miami but let’s go with the 1st statement). The bros got high one day and decided “You know what? Let’s make an album!” (validity also questionable). They planted the seed, watered it and out grew their collab project “Trust Fund Babies”. On this one they talk about their riches and also young ladies putting their penises in metaphorical headlocks with their tongues as they’re performing the fellatio. Who doesn’t like a good pole waxing, amirite? Other highlights from “Trust Fund Babies”

Lonr. - RED LIGHT: New Talent bubbling! Lonr (great name for an emo rapper) has a Juice World-esque sound on “RED LIGHT” a poppy, upbeat short track where he sings about all the shit going on that’s grinding his gears. Also check out CUFFIN ft. Coi Leray, that one is a more traditional R&B vibe and it’s an equally dope track.
Papoose ft. Lil Wayne & Timbaland - Thought I Was Gonna Stop: Pap just dropped a new project (in October) called “September” (probably because that’s when he recorded it...) Featuring Weezy F (Wayne doing like 3 features a day) and with production from Timbaland Papoose reminds us why he’s considered one of the best wordsmiths of all time. Both him and Wayne shun social media to get money, bust heads, and please their women with a little sexual healing.
Aitch ft. Avelino & Toddla T - Party Round My Place: If Tommy from Power was British and had bars he’d be Aitch. This a catchy one, imploring the ladies to party Round My Place. He’s having house parties, drinking alcohols, and kissing women on the mouth (snoggin is what they call it in the country of Great British). Like Tommy, Aitch has hella Black friends and smashes hella cheeks.
FaZe Kaysan ft. Lil Durk & Future - Made A Way: FaZe Clan is a group of pro video gamers who make tons of money and get all the ladies. Kaysan is a member of that Clan who has ventured out into music. On this one he got 2 heavyweights in the game Durk & Fyutch over a hard beat (probably produced by Kaysan since he doesn’t rap on the track). They shower their women with diamonds, millions, mink coats, the finest of liquor, pills, and doggystyle sex over the sink.
Headie One - Cry: I first heard of Headie when Drake did a song with him in the midst of his last major beef. I found out that Headie was already huge in the UK and after checking out his music, I saw why (suh-suh-suh! iykyk). After dropping an album last year, he’s back at it with a new project called “Too Loyal For My Own Good”. The album matches the title as Headie One adjust to the money, fame, and loved ones who don’t return the love. On “Cry” he samples Busta Rhymes’ hit “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See” and it’s a juiced-up party anthem. They gon’ be playing this in pubs all over Brixton (I don’t know this to be true, just guessing...) Check out these other standouts from “Too Loyal for My Own Good”:
Too Loyal…

Long Night in Knightsbridge

Eli Derby - Gaslight: Great week for Rhythm & Blues. Eli Derby (who is new to me but is prolly that nigga on his block and for sure beats more cheeks than I) calls his girl out for being disloyal, accuses her of not loving him but just lusting after him. She got answers for everything, to keep him around she says anything, but he knows it’s cap. He knows she’s gaslighting him, that’s why he named the song Gaslight, duh.
Slimelife Shawty - Where’s The Love: There’s another SS song I really like (I can’t remember it right now because my brain cells don’t always work how I want them to). This one has a beat consisting of drums and keys and Shawty just wanna know where the love at? He out here breaking bread with his team and he just looking for a lil appreciation.
Kent Jones ft. Rick Ross - Bout That: “On my momma, on my hood, I get high, I look good.” Radio-ready, poppy bop, with Frankie Beverly-esque background vocals. Definitely one to play at all your winter cookouts, it’s sure to get the party rocking. Kent & Ross are Bout That, getting money, buying expensive jewelry, grinding from the bottom to the top, Goyard bags, driving fast cars, and having healthy sexual relations with their significant others. They was hungry, now they watch all they niggas count racks.
