The Hit List #25: (Oct 11 - Oct 17)
Young Thug with J. Cole & T-Shyne - Stressed: Thugger dropped “Punk” this week, a new album with mad acoustic vibes. I loved the whole album (and like a few projects on the list was listing the whole tracklist as “faves” but peeled back). This one stands out for it’s hard hitting J. Cole feature. For an introspective, new-wave backpacker, Cole shines talking that money shit on this one. He raking in 100 M’s this year and be advised a milli don’t really move the needle for him anymore. If you fuck with his money you fucking with his family and he doesn’t take that lightly. He’s too blessed to be pressed or Stressed. I’ve also had “Livin It Up” and “Faces” from Thug’s “Punk” on repeat.
Maxo Kream - GREENER KNOTS: Maxo gearing up for an album release*** and it’s been a helluva rollout so far. It started with “Local Joker” and continued with a feature from Grammy-winning Tyler, The Creator on Big Persona and now he’s back with more fire for ya headtop with GREENER KNOTS. He talks about all the things he’s witnessed during his time on Earth (he’s seen a lot). He came from the slums, had to get it out the mud and now he’s got GREENER KNOTS. ***Editor’s Note***: Maxo’s Album came out on Monday, blurb was written prior but I gotta edit and do chores and errands and shit smd
Lil Durk - Pissed Me Off: Somebody pissed Durk off. I don’t know if it was the home invasion. I don’t know if it was the Von situation, but you can hear it in his music, dude is close to the edge and he’s using that pent up aggression to make top tier tunes. In a year that saw him on 2 of the biggest songs “Laugh Now, Cry Later” and “Back In Blood” and also a collab album with Lil Baby, Smurk is back with a loosie to get some things off his chest. He addresses his loved ones and his opps. Lets folks know he rather pass the pistol to his girl than some of the homies. Also he mandates that if you say you down to ride, then slide, don’t just talk about it. I’m lovin’ Durkio’s glo up, from his time on Coke Boyz to now and can’t wait to see what’s next.
Zack Fox & Kenny Beats - get off my dick: Ebony and Ivory make perfect harmony once again. From the duo that brought you “Jesus is the One (I Got Depression)” Zack and (whoa!) Kenny cook up another banger that was featured on Zack’s recently released album “shut the fuck up talking to me”. The message is simple, get off Zack’s dick. Give him 6 feet to breathe. He’s just trying to smoke cigs, eat chicken and perform cunnilingus on obese women while Johnny Mathis plays in the background and I think we all should respect his wishes.
Kyle - Sunday: First off, we gotta say RIP to Kyle's grill, mans got his signature crooked teeth fixed (prolly agent pressure or some shit). Anyway, the CA artist is back at it with some Latin vibes for his shawty. “Sunday” is about him sensing his girl acting funny and as the week reaches Sunday shawty tries to break up with Kyle but he implores her to stop frontin’ like he ain’t saucy. She relents obvi.
Soulja Boy - Squid Game: Fam, leave it to Soulja to take something popular and make a dope track. He did it with the final Jeopardy theme music in his song “Jeopardy” and on this one he takes the music from Netflix’s smash hit “Squid Game” and flips it. He throws in some red light green light bars, some shit about the team, elimination. He’ll slap a nigga like the Squid Game.
Payroll Giovanni ft. Kash Doll - Huddle Wit Bosses: Detroit having a renaissance over the last few years. Already cemented in Hip-Hop history as the home of Hall of Famer Eminem, Detroit has seen a number of young artists ascend in the past few years. One of them, Payroll Giovanni (member of Doughboyz Cashout) has been featured on a couple of Big Sean's albums and collabed with Jeezy and this week released a new project called “Giovanni’s Way”. Album is super hard and features fellow Motown rising stars Tee Grizzley, Babyface Ray and Kash Doll (who is killing her role on BMF). On Huddle Wit Bosses, featuring the aforementioned KD, the two go in on a Detroit-type beat (duh), they talk about all the money they getting and how they rub elbows with bosses only. Check out these other tracks from “Giovanni’s Way”:
Hustler Muzik 4
Ground Up
Turn Into 20 (ft. Tee Grizzley & Peezy)
Too Late (ft. Blade Icewood)
Having Thangs (ft. Babyface Ray & Smitty Soul)
P.B.B. (ft. Reshard)
Like That
Closer 2 The Plug (ft. Mack Nickels & Cashout Calhoun)
Stunna 4 Vegas - 38 Freestyle: 4 TIMES! Stunna back with another banger. He makes some of the best gym music, his aggressive delivery and even aggressiver lyrics really get the juices flowing (pause, unpause). On the song he threatens to shoot all his ops with his 38 and then explains how he’ll never get caught as he plans his crimes out perfectly. Tough Tune.
Dom Kennedy - Valet: Dominic dropped a new album this week, “From The Westside With Love Part Three”. It’s a dope project, “Valet” stuck out to me for the chill West Coast vibe, it’s perfect to cruise to, smoke to, or have on while you washing the dishes. It’s a utility song. “Fuck living average, we been established”. I also really enjoyed the tracks he cooked up for the ladies “Star Baby”, “Deep Thought” and “Come Home”.
BigWalkDog - So Icy: “So Icy Boyz” First off salute to Radric “Gucci Mane” Davis for this executive role that he’s grown in to. Man beat a murder case, got his health right, got married, had a child and still found time to put together a stable of young superstars. The New 1017 released a project called “So Icy Boyz” and it features all those under the umbrella including Pooh Shiesty, BigWalkDog, Hotboy Wes, Bic Fizzle and Enchanting (the 1st lady of the New 1017). Many of the tracks were released previously (genius rollout if you ask me, already have buy-in from the market). On “So Icy” a BigWalkDog solo track, which by the way, he put hella pressure on his self naming a song after one of Gucci’s biggest hits, BWD kills the piano-laden beat. Snare drums come in like a marching band and Big So Icy lets us know he getting that money and he still eaten ramen noodles. He reps for the squad, rides old school Chevys but still is iced out from neck to wrist. He’s after all the platinum, jewelry and plaques and he’ll bust yo ass if you reach for his chain.
Kojo Funds - Let Me Know: Island Vibes! K-Funds asks his shawty to let him know if he can pull up. He’s wondering if she got some free time as he trying come bless her with his presence. If she don’t got time he says he can reschedule as he’s going out of town, but he’ll be back later in the week. Also, he prefers that she text and not call. Mans is specific and that’s great for communication and the relationship as a whole.
