The Hit List #26: (Oct 18 - Oct 24)
Fetty Wap - Mona Lisa: Don’t call it a comeback! One-Eyed Willy released a new album this week called “The Butterfly Effect.” On it he bares his soul and has quite a few tracks for the ladies. On “Mona Lisa” he shows love to his day one shawty. She was there before the money and the fame. She knows this life can be a zoo and she’s stuck by Fetty’s side through the ups and downs and this track is him showing his appreciation. Other highlights from “The Butterfly Effect” (It’s basically the whole damn album ‘cause that shit is a highlight reel):
Intro

The Truth
Remember Me
That’s Facts
They Know Me
Got A Bag (ft. Monty)

Big Sean - What A Life & LA Leakers Freestyle: Sean Don has to be gearing up for a project. He threw 100,000 murder hornets (bees actually) on him for the “What a Life” music video. The Hit-boy produced track feels like the beginning of something bigger. He also spit a LA Leakers freestyle for the 1st time and I can’t put it into words, you just gotta listen.
Wale ft. Jamie Foxx - Dearly Beloved: “Folarin II” dropped this week and it’s a hit! It has some radio-ready records, some high-profile features and all quality bars from one of the most underrated artists of all time, any genre. “Dearly Beloved” is a short track with a Jamie Foxx sample. Wale describes a woman who moved on. They weren’t the perfect fit, but the split still hurt. He reminisces and it’s a beautiful ballad to past love. Check out all of “Folarin II” and especially these tracks:

Mount Westmore - Big Subwoofer: West Coast supergroup Mount Westmore released what I think is their 1st single “Big Subwoofer”. The Group consists of legends Snoop, Cube, E-40 and Too Short and they all deliver on this upbeat club-ready banger that will be for sure blasted through subwoofers up and down the West Coast all winter.
Maxo Kream - DON’T PLAY WITH SHAWTY ASS: Maxo Kream released an album this week called “WEIGHT OF THE WORLD”. He dropped on Monday (he wanted a full week of sales, I feel that). This one has a synthy beat and he uses a rapid fire flow to deliver a bop (and a message: don’t play wit Maxo). Go stream “WEIGHT OF THE WORLD” and be sure to check out these:

Culture Jam ft. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie & Capella Grey - Bestie: Kawhi Leonard is now dabblin in music. Not as an artist (that’s Dame’s lane) but as a curator. He put together a 7 track project called “Culture Jam Vol. 1” and it features some of the hottest young stars including NBA Young Boy, Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna and BlueBucksClan. On this one A Boogie (with or without the hoodie) and viral sensation Capella Grey (of Gyalis fame) sing about they ladies and how they was best friends before they were lovers. Now they’ll buy them whatever designer goods they want, luxury vehicles, BBLs, property, because it’s not trickin’ if you sing about it.
Majid Jordan & Drake - Stars Align: The OVO producer/singer duo released “Wildest Dreams” this week, a funky, sexy, soulful album (their bag for sure). On this one they got Big Dawg for a collab. They flipped “Computer Love” by Zapp & Roger ft. Charlie Wilson and Drake sings in falsetto trying to link with shorty. I think that’s all that needs to be said for you to give this one a spin. Also from “Wildest Dreams”:
Dancin On A Dream (ft. Swae Lee)
Wildest Dreams
Been Through That
Sway (ft. Diddy)
Northside Benji ft. Vory - The Voice: Northside Benji is a Canadian artist who released one of my favorite tracks of the year with DJ Charlie B called “30,000 ft” earlier this year. He dropped an album this week, “The Extravagant Collection”, and I had to listen. It’s a great project, and this track with Vory really stood out. Vory on a run too. I been on him since he was King Vory (pause, unpause) and with his multiple features on Ye’s Donda this year, he’s got the music biz on full alert. On “The Voice” the guys talk about losing loved ones to the streets and trying to overcome and get more money to make sure the fam good. Vory also sings to his shawty and lets her know it’s all for her. I swear the brownie points these niggas get for singing to they girl on a song that the world can hear… it’s a lot. Other highlights from “The Extravagant Collection”:

Strippers Heels & Heartbreaks (ft. Melii)
BiC Fizzle ft. Big Scarr - Clark Street Baby: Gucci Mane and The New 1017 released the Deluxe to their recent album “So Icy Boyz” this week and it was basically a whole nother album. Arkansas youngsta BiC Fizzle really shined on the Deluxe. In addition to “Clark Street Baby” (classic piano trap beat that Gucci Mane always kills like on Lemonade) B-Fizz also shines on “So Icy Fizzle” ft. Cootie.
Cozz - Fortunate: The Kraken known as Dreamville has awakened. Cole dropped an AOTY candidate earlier and Lute released his debut a couple weeks ago now Cozz up. On this loosie he expresses gratitude for being in his position, knowing he could be dead. He urges those listening to stay out the streets because they will make you bleed. You could be up next if you play ya cards right.
Lil Tjay, Fivio & Kay Flock - Not In The Mood: NY Drill at its finest. Tjay sings, Fivio goes in over a beat tailor made for his flow. The fellas aren’t in the mood for the bullshit. Also a word on the beat, it’s a NY Drill beat but it’s turned up to the max, triumphant, dark, polished. Kay Flock spits some aggressive bars on the 2nd verse and this shit will be on my gym playlist for years.
Comethazine - Buffed Up: Co-meth released an album this week called “Comethazine The Album”. Buffed Up is a catchy tune that finds the crazy-faced rapper talking his shit. He buffed the fuck up now, he the big boss like Rick Ross. Now all the bittes tryna come through and eat his meat. Checkout these other standout tracks from “Comethazine The Album”:
Halla
Solar Freestyle
Six Flags
Balls To The Wall
Pimps In The House
Joell Ortiz - OG: This was a nice surprise. One of the best lyricists that hip-hop has known is gearing up for an album release sometime soon. This beat is super duper dope and we all know JO is bringing heat. He displays his maturity and speaks on the physical effects of aging, what a night out for him is now (dinner with his wife) and how he living (in Jerz, in the burbs, prolly somewhere near Budden). He talks about where he came from, where he is now, and warns those that even though he’s glowed up he got that thang on him (and his wife does to). “Salute to those who get to be an OG”
Wiz Khalifa - Million Dollar Moment: TGOD! Wiz cooked up a rock infused anthem, in the vein of “Work Hard, Play Hard”. He talks about the grind, having to take risks to make it to the top. He knows we only get a few chances to blow and he’s taking advantage of his and encourages you to do the same. In the lyric video he’s boxing and shit and this is for sure perfect for your gym playlist.
JPEGMAFIA - THOT’S PRAYER: Last but not least, Peggy! I saw this coming. He had been droppin consistently over the summer and a project had to be coming and it came (skeet, skeet, skeet) in the form of “LP!”. Anyone familiar with JPEGMAFIA will know to expect the unexpected. The album contains a full range of sounds (both beats and flows) and there’s something for everyone. On “THOT’S PRAYER” he samples Britney Spears’ classic debut single “Baby One More Time”. The loneliness is killing him and he just wants shorty to hit him one more time. He’s mad that she dipped and is looking for her like Carmen San Diego and just wants a sign that she still cares. Some other highlights from “LP!”:
