The Hit List #43: (Feb 14 - Feb 20)
Big K.R.I.T. - Boring: Mississippi spitter Big K.R.I.T. released an album this week called “Digital Roses Don’t Die”. The themes are love, relationships and doing the nasty. On the standout “Boring” KRIT admits that he holds it down like a King should but that he’s hella boring, he’s a homebody and he knows shawty loves it. He displays a high level of self awareness and is comfortable with who he is. Check out these other tracks from “Digital Roses Don’t Die”:
Show U Right
Just 4 U
All The Time
Pacman Da Gunman & HitBoy ft. Dom Kennedy - Find A Balance: All Money In artist (and Cali’s own) Pacman da Gunman linked with HitBoy for an absolute banger. You know the beat crazy and Pacman keeps with this week’s theme of love/relationships and speaks the truth to his main damie, “Loyalty go a long way”. They running out of time and they gotta Find a Balance #Bars. Dom lays an A1 verse, he got the cash, cars and suggests that before you step to him and his, do ya research.
RZA & DJ Scratch - Fate of the World: The Wu is Back! God MC RZA of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan linked with DJ Scratch for a new track (and I think they cooked up a whole project too that hasn’t dropped yet). On “Fate of the World” The Abbott first gives praises to Allah then shots out his Christian, Jewish and Hare Krishna brethren and then spits some spiritual, socially conscious bars as the Fate of the World loop plays in the background. The message is that you control your destiny, elevate your mind and elevate your future (and everyone around you). The possibilities are endless. Tough Tune.
Gunna - Banking On Me: Gunna on a helluva run. After releasing his album and beating The Weeknd in 1st weeks sales (What!?), ending Freddie Gibbs career with 2 bars (hyperbole) and apparently scooping new It Girl Chloe Bailey, he returns with a loosie for your headtop. This one is a love song (we’re 3 for 3 this week, it must be the reverberations from V Day). Shawty is banking on him, she loves to get spanked. He’s a made man and he loves to wrestle (with the bitties of course).
Yeat ft. Ken Car$on - Gëek high: There’s a new White rapper on the block and he’s setting the streets on fire. He definitely has a Playboi Carti-vibe with the production and delivery but his deep voice sets him apart and there won’t be any Future-Desiigner mixups with Yeat. He dropped an album this week (I’m pretty sure it’s his debut) called “2 Alive” and I fucks wit it heavy! On this one he talks about havin fun, poppin a couple p’s, getting geeked and pulling up on his main vibe so she can get some neck exercise in. Other highlights from “2 Alive”:
Poppin
Luh gëek
Dnt lië
Taliban
Still countin
Vince Staples - Magic: Vince gearing up to drop a new project called “Ramona Park Broke My Heart” The title pays homage to his hood. After last year's self-titled album he returns with an upbeat track produced by the one and only, King of the New West Coast, producer (formerly DJ) Mustard (on the beat hoe!) It sounds exactly as you’d imagine (but better). He asks why it feels like he’s floating, is it magic (prolly the herb). Why his shawty steady disappearing (is it Magic? nah she prolly creepin…) He also don’t show his hand, they wonder how he do what he do, it’s Magic.
Vic Mensa ft. Do or Die - Alone Wit U: We back on the Love Train as Vic Mensa dropped an EP this week called “Vino Valentino” and it too is full of lovey dovey-relationship tracks (love is in the air Bob). He links with legendary Chi-Town group Do or Die and they let shawty know they wanna be alone wit her. Her ass is real and they been patiently waiting to smash (raw of course). Vic spits his verse like Do or Die and the OGs lay 2 superb verses.
Sada Baby - Ja Morant: Detroit’s own Sada Baby released an album this week called “Bartier Bounty 3” (which I believe is some kind of gang slang, I wouldn’t know…) With Skuba Steve, you know you’re gonna get some hard beats (check) some aggressive rhymes (check) and a hyperenergetic delivery (check and check). He switches it up every now and then for the melodies but overall it’s shit that makes you go hard in the gym. It’s his bread & butter. He titled a few tracks after NBA Players and my favorite one is “Ja Morant” which finds Sada shit talking, feeling like he Ja Morant, throat fucking thots, running plays in rental cars, hollow tips bullets, and Stone Cold Stunners. Go check out this and other standouts from “Bartier Bounty 3”:
1992
Angel And Dren
CJ
SilkSonic - Love Train: The album drop wasn’t the end of Silk Sonic. The guys return with a cover of the classic Soul track and it’s silky of course. I anticipate more from this duo in the future, they got some chemistry.
Deante’ Hitchcock ft. DaVionne & JaelSpeaks - Eyes On Me: The ATLien dropped an EP this week “Everyday The 14th”, the title a nod to Outkast’s (and specifically Andre 3000’s) track “Happy Valentine’s Day” off their Grammy-winning Album of the Year Speakerboxx/The Love Below. All the tracks fit the V Day vibe (there’s something in the water) and on “Eyes on Me” DH slows it down as shawty instructs him to keep his eyes on her, them wandering eyes might get him poked. He dicks her down and treats her right but he better not creep or he might not like what happens next. DaVionne holds down the chorus and it ends with JaelSpeaks with some spoken word for your headtop and she says if mans go left, he can’t mess with her friends. Any money spent, charge it to the game. And she reserves the right to catch you creeping, send your side bae to the moon and still claim you as hers. Moral of the story, just keep your eyes on her playa.
Mike Dimes - Home: New Artist Alert! Apparently Mike Dimes been buzzing for a year now but this is the 1st track of his I’ve come across. It’s dope when you find somebody and you can go back and listen to their body of work. This week he dropped “Homes” a track repping his home state of Texas, where they like their booties big and their cups muddy (iykyk). The beat is triumphant with cinematic strings and MD bigs up his homies, his shawty and flexes from El Paso to Galveston.
Curren$y & The Alchemist ft. Boldy James - No Yeast: Curren$y and Al dropped a joint project called “Continuance” and that’s a rapper-producer combo that goes together like Shaq & Kobe, Peaches & Herb, Lamb & Tuna Fish. On “No Yeast” the guys link with Boldy James (who also had a collab project with Al not too long ago) and over some boom bap they talk that money talk, stay on they Dean, cook up work, smoke that Chronic and grip gats (legal of course).
Russ - Real: Let me beat a dead horse for a sec. I marvel at Russ’s output. A lotta cats get the cash and chill. Success has seemed to motivate Russ, he just goes harder and harder (pause, unpause) but nice segway into the track. “Real” fits this week V Day theme, it’s all about fuckin. His shawty is a fan of the doggystyle. He’s a gentleman but knows when not to be gentle. He is into voyeurism as he likes to get busy on his deck knowing that his neighbors are in fact not blind. He just asks shawty to keep it Real.
Peewee Longway - Him or Me: Peewee Longway released “Longway Recipe” this week, a new project that’s a departure from his usual music. Mr Good Crack made an album about love, relationships and doing the nasty (deja vu?) He talks about everything from coochie sounds to giving shawty an ultimatum on this track. It’s either Him or Me. She can fuck with a really real nigga or throw it all away for a lame, her choice. Check out “Longway Recipe” especially if you feeling frisky.
Baby Tate - What’s Love: Formerly (Yung) Baby Tate released a 2 pack this week that shows her range. One track is about slutting niggas out. This track is a deep introspective track in which BT asks What’s Love? She thought she knew before but now she’s not so sure anymore. Is it just company? Is it just fuckery? Is it just wasting time? We all have these questions at some point and hopefully the good Lord brings yo ass some answers.
Kranium - Wi Deh Yah: Jamaican sensation Kranium dropped this track with island vibes, dope beat (it’s the chipmunk loop for me), he makes the poom poom talk and you can tell this gonna have all the bitties slow winding all summer. A lil Casamigos, 1942 plus this track and it’s litty.
