The Hit List Week 49: (Mar 28 - Apr 3)
Dreamville ft. EARTHGANG & 2 Chainz - Ghetto Gods Freestyle: Huge week for Dreamville as they dropped a Gangsta Grillz tape AND held Dreamville Fest the same weekend as the Grammys. The project “D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape” feature the whole Dreamville roster and some special guests. I’m an EarthGang stan so Ghetto Gods Freestyle popped out to me early in the album. I also loved “Hair Salon” with G Perico, that one’s a vibe. The whole tape crazy! Shout out to The Ville and DJ Drama from taking the series from car trunks to a Grammy winner with Tyler’s “Call Me If You Get Lost”. Big Tings Poppin!
Chris Brown - WE (Warm Embrace): Chris got a hit on his hand with this one. 80’s pop-funk elements in the beat including the Roger Troutman/Zapp Band talkbox background vocals. This love making music, wrapping shawty in your Warm Embrace. Hands in special places. Chris tryna dive into her ocean and love every part of her anatomy. Put this on that special Sexy Time playlist and it’s sure to get the kitty at least 75% more moist.
Freddie Gibbs, Rick Ross & Kenny Beats - Ice Cream: I’m a sucker for a sample. You get Freddie Gibbs and Rick Ross on a flip of Wu-Tang’s “Ice Cream” cheffed up by Kenny Beats? Please and thank you! Top tier rhyming by Gangsta Gibbs and Ross took a break from living his best life to deliver one of the best verses of the year so far. Tough Tune.
Tee Grizzley - Buss It All Down: Another sample supertrack. This one samples the Beverly Hills Cop theme music. Super dope considering Eddie Murphy’s character from the movie was from the D (and wore that iconic Lions jacket). The beat is super saucy and Tee gets in his brag bag to rap about how he ices out all his jewelry and his gang’s too. He also promises to blow ya brains out if you cross that line. I’ll have this in the Serrato for years to come.
Pacman Da GunMan & Hit-Boy - Till We Meet Again: All Money In’s Pacman Da Gunman released a new collab project with Hit-Boy this week called “Bulletproof Soul” and it’s what you expect from Cali’s Finest. I liked the whole album but the Nipsey tribute track really got me. This week marked the 3rd anniversary of his death and there were many tributes but none as personal as Pacman’s who was on Nipsey label, repped that blue flag and learned a lot from the OG. RIP NIP and also check out these other standouts from “Bulletproof Soul”:
Bangin Late
New Heat (ft. J Stone)
Cold Nights on 60th Street
Ask God (ft. Yhung T.O.)
Vince Staples - Rose Street: Back to back Crips on the list. Vince set to drop his much anticipated album “Ramona Park Broke My Heart” next week. In the meantime he blessed us with a single. It’s a change of pace for Young Staples, a self-described “love song” (gangstas need love too). Uptempo, he laments the fact that his main damie is quick to wanna split when shit gets thick. She be lyin to his face so he prefers to have doggystyle sexual relations with her. He asks if she’s a ho or housewife and no matter what he’s sticking with the sistas (that bar will make Dr. Umar smile). Vince is married to the game and he’s only bringing flowers to the homie’s grave.
A$AP Ant & A$AP Rocky - The God Hour: This is not the Hot Goss website so we will not be discussing Rocky’s situationship but we will be talking about him linking with his A$AP brethren Ant to drop a sensational track. On “The God Hour” the guys talk about sipping lean, moving packs, pushing AMG Benzes, taking psychedelic drugs, rocking designer attire and having mad orgies.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - She’s a Lover: Oh shit, a lil Rock & Roll on the list. RHCP released a new album this week called “Unlimited Love”. Their song “Can’t Stop” is one of my all time favorite songs so I had to give this a spin. My favorite track on the project is “She’s A Lover”. It’s classic Chili Peppers mellow funky rock. One for the ladies, the guys ask “Love me, love me, wake up and hug me” They just looking for love and hugs and maybe a lil bit of dr*gs (last part not confirmed). They love licking face and getting squeezed for a sweet release. Check out “Unlimited Love” if you like Rock and if you ever wondered what it’s like to feel whole inside.
Gucci Mane ft. Young Dolph & Key Glock - Blood All On It: Key Glock been making sure the OG’s name stays buzzin after his untimely death and this time with the assistance of Guwop. Young Dolph had some shit in the tuck because this is an outstanding verse and Dolph also handles the chorus. Street bars, it’s the money that has Blood All On It. Dolph is putting his scale to use, and using the guap to buy Richard Milles. He also keeps a big booty bittie on deck. Gucci calls out the phonies in the rap game and calls them jabronis. He vows to do what he has to do to keep his family protected. Key calls rappers weirdos, sips lean and pushes a Hellcat and sometimes a McClaren. He has a pocket full of money (with Blood All On It of course).
Scotty LVX ft. Rick Ross - Receipts: Admittedly, this is my first time hearing Scotty LVX but if he continues to put out high quality music like this, it won’t be the last. This is Ross’s second appearance on this list (Boss puttin in work) and together they created a catchy song. They been fly, you can check the receipts. Scotty spits melodic bars and lets us know that even though he’s new to the game, he been lit. He only touches dimes and he would sing to them but they might fall in love. He got Chanel on his feet, silk on the sheets, and he’s currently shopping for beachfront property. Ross lets shawty hold his lambo as he pushes his Chevy or his G Wagon. He got the hittas with him to stay safe as he roams the streets.
Alex Isley & Jack Dine ft. Bas - On & On: Some traditional R&B for ya headtop! Alex Isley linked with Jack DIne for a collab project called “Marigold”. The album’s a work of art. Alex’s buttery smooth vocals flow with the soothing beats. On this track they get an assist from Dreamville’s Bas who spits an A1 verse to his special lady. All the R&B lovers should check out “Marigold”.
Kehlani ft. Justin Bieber - Up At Night: Kehlani & The Biebs? Wouldn’t have thought that one up but it’s a pretty sweet track if you ask me. It has a 90’s R&B, New Jack Swing type bounce to it. The message is simple “Thoughts of you keep me up at night”. When you lovesick and all you can think about is when the next time you’ll see that person (or you can’t stop thinking bout dat ass!)
NoonieVsEverybody - GOT A FEELING: Cleveland artist and LVRN signee NoonieVsEverybody released his debut album this week entitled “STRICTLY 4 THE VOICELESS”. It’s that inspirational, got it out the mud-type hip-hop. Kinda like Rap's version of the Blues: storytelling, down on your luck-type subject matter but hopeful. My favorite track is “GOT A FEELING”. On it, Noonie grips his Glock because he has a feeling. He not wasting time, he getting to the millions. He puts all the pain to the side because he’s a real one. He’s trying to get a Benz so he’s saving up his cheese. Smart man. Go check out “STRICTLY 4 THE VOICELESS” I enjoyed the project and so will you.
Ella Mai - Leave You Alone: Ella Mai is cranking the engine. After releasing “DFMU” she’s back at it with her 2nd track of 2022. “Leave You Alone” is more uptempo than her last offering and has a funky pop-R&B sound. Perfect for the radio, it shines a light on the positive parts of love. Cuddling and doing sex and shit. She just can’t leave mans alone. She’s such a fucking lady but mans makes that good girl crazy.
NBA Youngboy - Nightfall: YB is set to release a new project called “Last Slimeto” later this year. He decided to bless us with 11 tracks off the album early (Thank You YoungBoy!) This one is super hard, beat bumps and he’s talking that shit, shooting shit, sipping drugs and warning you to watch out for lying pastors. “Last Slimeto” has a scheduled release of August 5th as of writing with 30 tracks set to drop (19 more).
