The Hit List Week 51: (Apr 11 - Apr 17)
Tee Grizzley - Built 4 It: Detroit’s own, Tee Grizzley released a new album this week called “Half Tee Half Beast”. It’s full of TG’s signature sound including a new track in his “Robbery” series. I love all the singles he dropped and my favorite album cut is “Built 4 It” a flip of 2pac “Changes”. Go check out “Half Tee Half Beast” if you ever had to stomp somebody out for talking slick about yo momma.
Kay Flock ft. Cardi B, Bory300 & Dougie B - Shake It: Recently incarcerated NY Drill Rapper linked with his fellow NY Drill brethren Dougie B & Bory300 and got Bardi on this re-rock of Akon’s Bananza (Belly Dancer). The beat is fucking phenomal and everybody spits agressive bars to ride the wave of the aggressive instrumental. It’s unique because the song is tryna get ladies to shake ass but the delivery is with the overagression of a corrections officer. One of one!
Fredo Bang ft. Roddy Ricch - Last One Left: Fredo Bang released a new project this week called “Two-Face Bang 2”. Loved the project and Fredo’s mix of street bars with introspection and vulnerability. Over a country-rap beat Fredo talks about writing this track while he was locked down and how niggas only be around when he up but when there’s a setback niggas turn to ghost. He put it in God’s hands instead of splattering they brains. Roddy Ricch assists with the chorus and delivers an A1 verse about going through it, niggas switching up and niggas jumping ship. He been through it and it makes him not wanna deal wit no one but he’s a real one. They one of the Last Ones Left. Do yourself a favor and listen to “Two Face Bag 2” front to back (same way you sposed to wipe ya dig?)
Swedish House Mafia ft. Mapei - Time: Swedish House Mafia has been dominating the EDM scene for over a decade now and this week they released “Paradise Again” **Check notes** their debut studio album… What!? They never released an album as a group? Well shiver me titties. The album features A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolla and their Coachella co-headliner The Weekend. I really love “Time”. It's one of those EDM tracks with soulful vocals (and those shits hit hard). The subject?: It takes Time to heal, and it takes adults to know that. Great gym music, or while cruising in your Kia Forte with the windows down. Check out the whole album. There’s something on “Paradise Again” for everyone.
Dizzy Wright & DJ Hoppa ft. Goddess of the West - Manifest: Barsmith Dizzy Wright released a new album this week called “Dizzyland”. It’s the most lyrical of all the offerings this week (and the lyricism is top tier). This is a jazzy track that encourages us to write down our dreams and aspirations so we can Manifest them. “Inhale the love, exhale the stress” Goddess of the West’s sultry voice handles the hook and Dizzy spits that real life shit. Go give “Dizzyland” a spin if you want your dreams to come true and you also want your opps to stub their left big toe.
Bas & Ari Lenox - The Others: Dreamville got some momentum going. After a successful Dreamville Fest (which followed their Gangsta Grillz Tape) Bas released a 4 track EP called “[Bump] Or: Pick Me Up”. My favorite is “The Others” with fellow Dreamville signee Ari Lennox. The track encourages us to be grateful for what we have and to do our best to let go of the pain. It’s hopeful, inspirational and motivational. It lets us know that we’re different. We standout. We’re not like The Others. Check out the “[Bump] Or: Pick Me Up”. Quality music packed into 4 tracks.
Gemaine & Charlie Heat ft. Ymtk & Too Short - Play Too Much: I hadn’t heard of Gemaine before this week but I had Charlie Heat in the Serrato so I decided to give the project they collabed on “New Jack City” a listen. It’s exquisite!, Top tier R&B. This smooth track with a snap beat and a Too Short feature is about a chick who switches up, slid on the homie sideways. Now he all glowed up and she just giving HJs in a Carl’s Jr parking lot to pay her cell phone bill. Go give “New Jack City” a listen if you love R&B and hate domestic violence.
