The Hit List Week 59: (June 6 - June 12)
Kevin Gates - Super General: Mr. Gates set the week on fire when he released this freestyle over Kodak Black’s “Super Gremlin”. He addressed some of the gossip surround him in the past year including: hooking up with another artist and converting her to Islam while on a boat to Virginia, linking with an infamous IG model who had a baby with a younger NBA player, his desire to spend quality time with Rubi Rose, Nicki Minaj and Beyonce, and he also spoke about going through depression and bouncing back, losing loved ones and some more deep shit. He’s got an album dropping soon called “Khaza” and he released the Intro to that this week too. If these two offerings are any indication of what’s on the album, it’s gonna be a smash.
Sada Baby ft. Skooly - Skuba Skooly: The Mitten’s Own Sada Baby released a Deluxe of his “Skuba Baby 2” project called “Skuba Baby 2.5”. It features quite a few tracks that have been out for a minute so it’s kinda like a compilation. My favorite of the new tracks is “Skuba Skooly”. On it, he calls out some of his peers for being soft. He plants his flag as a lover and a fighter. He loves the smoke, and the weed, and suburban chicks. He’ll knock an opp out then knock his momma up (consensually of course). He hates the smell of rats and he been getting money while these other cats new to the game. ATL’s Skooly been giving out shit and urges the opps to “Come get some”. His gun doesn’t have a silencer because he does not move in silence like lasagna. He doesn’t fight with strangers and he’s good with both Pirus and Crips.
Hit-Boy & Dom Kennedy - Corsa: Hit-Boy’s on an epic run. After winning a Grammy with the legend Nas, and dropping 2 more projects with him, he’s dropped more collab albums this year and is getting back to the rhyming. He spits the hook and first verse on this new track with fellow Californian Dom Kennedy. He won’t jump clique to clique and he peels off in the Lambo while making a decent proposal to a young lady. He loves a discreet freak and puffing solo blunts to the head. Dom also doesn't jump clique to clique and calls his peers out for being counterfeit. When he’s in the club he’s without a stick. He got mad love there so no need. He’s hood rich but he’ll never trick (including but not limited to: paying the rent). His homie died but he knows self-pity won’t get him anywhere so he keeps his head up and keeps it pushing.
Benny The Butcher - Welcome to the States: Motivated by the recent Mass shooting in his hometown of Buffalo, New York, Benny The Butcher switches up and drops a socially conscious track over the instrumental of Kendrick Lamar’s “We Cry Together”. It’s reminiscent of when Lil Baby dropped “The Bigger Picture” in the midst of the pandemic and the worldwide movement for police reform after the death of George Floyd. On this track, Benny talks about the racially motivated Buffalo shooting, how the perpetrator was captured without incident, and how he himself has shopped at that grocery store. He also talks about other hurdles Black people have to overcome in America like trying to get a loan at a bank and being discriminated against. He calls out gun laws and politicians who often are out of the line of fire and are protected from the issues they vote on and decide for the masses. The video for the track ends with a Go Fund Me for the survivors (and families of victims) of the Buffalo shooting which can also be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/buffalo-survivors-fund
SZA - 2AM: SZA released a deluxe to her blockbuster album “Cntrl”. That’s the album that catapulted her into the stratosphere of new wave R&B songstresses. The 7 added tracks are previously recorded tracks she decided to release from the vault and she has more unreleased tracks dropping soon. My favorite of the additions is “2AM”, a flip of PartyNextDoor’s “Come And See Me”. I’m a sucker for a sample so the familiarity pulled me in and Solana’s voice and raw emotion kept me hooked. Go give “Cntrl” (Deluxe) a listen then hit up that person you ain’t seen in awhile. They might miss you too.
Rich Homie Quan - Still Sinning: Don’t call it a comeback! Rich Homie dropped a new loosie this week. Over a country-sounding, uptempo beat, he talks about making sacrifices and how the streets ain’t bout nothing. He didn’t put in work just to get murked. He knows the money will let you know who your real friends are. He raps that flexing on the less fortunate doesn’t feel good (this one of the realest bears of the year, high level of self-awareness being displayed). It’s hard for him to love again because he doesn't trust no one. He loves family and money the most and recommends that we never judge a book by its cover. He talks to God and he Still Sins but he’s also trying to get 1% better everyday.
Pharrell ft. Tyler, The Creator & 21 Savage - Cash In Cash Out: The marquee release this week is from Hall of Fame beatsmith Pharrell with the assistance from fellow Grammy winners Tyler and 21. Pharrell cheffed up the beat and 21 kicks it off by describing how he pushes a keyless whip (a sport coupe to be exact) while sporting a sleeveless Louis V shirt. His bodyguard looks like a horse. He buys a Richard Mille watch when he gets bored and he buys Porsches for his side bitties. He advises you not to reach for his chain as he promises to make you take a forever nap if you do. TyTy hits the beach in a furry hat and starts intercepting dudes chicks like Deion. He’s got more whips than slaves. His ice is so white you can ski on it. He gets hella racks per show and doesn’t want to take pictures with everyone who requests.
Juicy J & Pi’erre Bourne - This Fronto: Exciting news as we’ll soon be getting a collab project from the OG Juicy J and producer Pi’erre Bourne (best known for his work with Playboi Carti). They dropped a tester for the streets called “This Fronto”. Fronto seems to be some type of marijuana cigarette as the Fronto has him high. I did some crack research on Urban Dictionary and Fronto is apparently the natural full leaf version of Backwoods (before the leaf is processed and flavored). He’s also high off the Xans, the Molly and the Shrooms. It’s a song dedicated to the turn up.
Supa Bwe - IMA WIZARD: Chicago artist Supa Bwe released a new project this week called “WIZARD”. It features his signature eclectic sounds (the guy has range) and my favorite track is “IMA WIZARD”. On it he describes how he has enough Xanax to kill 20 men and he doesn’t want to tell a lady friend about his suicidal ideations because she won’t understand. She ain’t a ho she just performs on cam and she pays for college with her OnlyFans. He makes it clear that shit ain’t sweet just because he knows Chance the Rapper. Go check out “WIZARD” if you ever been outside chilling and then the wind started blowing.
Kid Cudi - Do What I Want: Speaking of wizards, Cudders released a new bop this week. It starts off with an impression of Stephen A Smith's “Stay of the weeeed-uh”. Cudi will not, he puffs blunts with his homies while pushing a black Porsche in the rain. Sometimes he feels down but he doesn't stay there. He keeps his homies close (as one should) and he feels like he can do what he wants. He’s living with love and giving all love to his angels above.
NLE Choppa - Apart From You: NLE Choppa dropped a loosie this week dedicated to his main damie. He makes her feel something unique. He likes to slow stroke her missionary and he knows she misses him when they are apart. He wants to have quite a few kids with her (which is why he didn’t pull out the first time they kicked it). He has trust issues from past relationships but he’s growing to trust her and he’s high on that intoxicating drug called Love.
Money Man - Big Money: One of the best Independent artists, Money Man, released a super dope single this week. Beat A1. He talking that big talk. He got on creatine and got his weight up. He in the crib doing calisthenics and moving weight. He has ambition and a blick with a switch (so move cautious around him). His pops told him that everything he do, he better do it big and that’s how he’s grinded his way to millions.
French Montana ft. Babyface Ray - Drive By: Montana! Frenchy dropped a new Harry Fraud-produced loosie this week. The beat crazy and French rides the beat like surfer. He meets a woman who’s the total package. She goes hard but her ass is soft. He vows to shoot up the club like a drive-by (that means ejaculate inside her without a provalactive). He’s taking the Coke Wave around the globe. B-Ray screams “Free Max B”. He climbed his way out the trenches and he’s trying to lead his homies to water but he knows he can’t make em drink.
Rubi Rose - Wifey: Fresh off a shoutout in Kevin Gates’ “Super General” (see above) Double R dropped a new banger that samples N.E.R.D.’s “Lapdance”. She gives us advice, if you want a Bad Bitch you gotta say it with your chest. She don’t need a nigga money but she’ll take it and use it to invest. She knows people be talking out they neck about her, saying she’s a ho. She says dead that noise, she ain't a ho, she’s wifey.
Guapdad 4000 ft. Wiz Khalifa & Curren$y - Pose: Yay Area! The Warriors one win away from their 4th chip in like 8 years and we got a slap from the Bay’s Own Guapdad. Vibey beat. Wiz kicks it off and asks his shawty to throw that ass back while he tries to get his money straight. He looking for a solid girl who never changes or switches up. He’s on that billionaire time and don’t got time for games. GD trying to get lotto rich. He going hard, he can’t do it moderate. He steps in the party and Poses for pics. He likes hookah and kicking it with a whole lotta hoochies. Curren$y the Hot Spitta is looking for more money and is cruising with pounds of the skunk. He only does OG stuff and that’s why his lady loves him. He cruises in a droptop Chevy and when he hits the switches the ass drops (and shawty’s ass shakes). On the East Side is where you can find him.
