The Hit List week 63: (July 4 - July 10)
Tobe Nwigwe ft. Chamillionaire, 2 Chainz & Fat Nwigwe - BEEN BROKE: Big Texas! Rising star in the rap game, Tobe Nwigwe, dropped a new bop this week and got the H-Town legend Chamillionaire to come out of retirement and drop a crazy verse. Tobe been broke, but he (and wife Fat), ain't broke no more. The Nwigwes got married and then immediately consummated the union. If a demon comes trying to attack, Tobe is prepared with the strap on his hip, ready to dump. He made it out the mud and still got the family intact, and for that alone he deserves Big Dap. Titty 2 Chainz ain’t going back to being broke and he’s currently enjoying shrimp with a pole dancer. He manifested his dreams now he got a whole lotta Euros in his pocket. He’s contemplating going to therapy as he’s looking for someone to listen (it’s a great investment OG). The Chamillionaire has been investing. He knows money talks, and he been talking a lot. He shouts out the late great Young Dolph and promises to honor his legacy by staying dripped out in ice.
Brent Faiyaz ft. Joony - FYTB: Brent Faiyaz dropped his new album “WASTELAND” this week and it set the world on faiyaz (I’ll see myself out). Streets crowning him the Toxic Prince, saying he giving Future a run for his money. I loved the album. “Loose Change” seems to be everybody’s fave. I also love FYTB featuring Joony. Brent asks shawty “Fuck is You Talkin Bout?”. It’s only him and her. He sees her so much in his dreams. He’s a Hot Nigga, check his degrees. His homie brought some E to the stu, so he’s gonna stay up all night rolling and recording. Joony was fucked up but now he back up and now the hoes is stalking. He’s getting money 5 ways and got hella diamonds on him. He just signed a deal but he’s still in the field and don’t give a fuck how you feel. Check out “WASTELAND” and be sure to catch these highlights:
LOOSE CHANGE
GRAVITY (with DJ Dahi ft. Tyler the Creator)
ALL MINE
WASTING TIME (ft. Drake & The Neptunes)
DEAD MAN WALKING
ADDICTIONS (with Tre’ Amani)
Killer Mike ft. Young Thug - Run: Killer Mike dropped a new track with a dope ass intro from Dave Chappelle and a verse from Thugger (Free YSL!) Chappelle’s speech likens being a nigga in America like the Allied Troops storming the beach at Normandy in WW2. Even though cats getting picked off left and right, you gotta keep running. God don’t like ugly and Mike isn’t one to judge. He knows the race for freedom ain’t won so as long as he lives he’ll run, nigga, run. Thugger adorns his main damie with designer fabrics and the finest jewelry. He’s instilling all the jewels he’s learned in his son. Like Mike, he knows you gotta teach em while they’re young.
Kota the Friend - JUMPMAN: Kota el Amigo dropped a new project this week called “MEMO”. I believe it’s his 2nd of 2022 (whole lotta 2’s). Dope project! He goes right in on “Jumpman”. He’s in the motherland with his feet in the sand and he vows to answer to no man (that’s that indie artist spirit, he got that dawg in him). He’s living by the plan and doing everything you said he can’t. He’s working on being the best father he can be and knows that time is an illusion. He disconnects from all the chaos by putting his phone down. He ponders if the life he’s living is real life and if this is what it feels like to get what you want. They call him the Jumpman and we should all show love to the Jumpman by checking out “MEMO” and collecting all the gems Kota drops. Other standouts:
365 DAYS OF PEACE
UP
NEEDS
FATHER’S DAY
GOOD FRIDAY
Key Glock - Diapers: Memphis heavyweight Key Glock dropped a loosie with a smooth beat. Dirty ass Sprite has KG high as a kite. He been working all day and trappin all night. He knows sometimes things feel wrong but they oh so right. When he sees the opps, it’s on sight as he has just came into possession of two 9mm pistols. He smokes on flower to kick back. He even gets a shot in at JB (Joe Biden not BlocBoy).
Burna Boy ft. Kehlani & Blxst - Solid: The African Giant released a new album this week called “Love, Damini”. Album so dope Patty Mills (who never tweets) had to show BB some love on the timeline. “Last Last” got the whole hood buzzing. I also love “Solid” with Cali crooners Kehlani & Blxst. Burna forever keeps it solid with his bae. He’s down to go public or keep it private. Shawty has no competition, she’s in a league of her own. Blxst keeps it solid because his girl is someone he vibes with the long way. The bags keep coming in and he’s gonna cop her a Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Kehlani tells her boo not to cap because she likes when they brag about her. She’s playing for keeps and she knows how to treat her significant other. Other highlights from “Love, Damini”:
Glory (ft. Ladysmith Black Mambazo)
Cloak & Dagger (ft. J Hus)
Last Last
Toni-Ann Singh (ft. Popcaan)
Common Person
Lola Brooke - On My Mind: New Artist Alert! This shit hard. Raw emotion, Lola admits dude been running through her mind all the time and she wishes he was with her right now. She got his back by any means (a true ride or die). She recommends they not let outside noise affect their bond and requests that he holds it down (and knows he will because it’s in his nature). He her lil gang banger bae so she reps the set. She don’t care if the money come or go, she just wanna be so close to mans that their hearts become neighbors. Tough Tune!
SSGKobe - Hershey: SSGKobe blessed us with a 6-pack EP this week called "RELAPSED". I love the opening track “Hershey”. Synth-y beat, SK admits that his shawty wants him all to herself and proves she’s down by holding his whistle for him. Lately, he’s been feeling lost and wonders what his purpose is. He’s trying to hold on to the love but feels the door closing. He’s off all of them drugs so it’s hard for him to stay holy. Check out “RELAPSE” and make sure you also listen to “Every Second”.
Russ - Paddington Freestyle: Russ dropped another top tier track this week. Beat stupid crazy. Russ gives props to his competition and their skill but also believes they lack the work ethic as they aren’t as obsessed with their craft as him. He’s got a pure heart, multiple revenue streams, and is past the point where gives a flying fuck about your opinion. While others chase the money he follows his heart. No hook, all bars.
August 08 - Impatient: August 08 released his 2nd project of the year with the EP “Towards The Moon”. If you like his previous work, you’ll love this one. My favorite track is “Impatient”. It has a funky uptempo beat with a hint of darkness (gives me Weeknd vibes). August is standing in a burning house looking for a way out. Shawty used to complete him but it’s hard to admit where they are now. He was believing the illusions but now he’s Impatient. Go check out “Towards The Moon” if you ever had a moment of clarity and knew you had to make a huge decision and a short amount of time.
26AR - Walk Em: New Artist Alert! I’m a sucker for a sample and 26AR’s decision to sample the Styles P classic “Good Times” (commonly known as “I Get High”) and flip it into a NY Drill beat was a wise one. AR really gets busy, niggas forget. He don’t tolerate no disrespect. He asks his shawty if she really loves him or is she just using him and he knows that the Devil be trying to confuse him. He got more money than all his opps and never runs out of ammunition for his firearms.
Westside Gunn ft. Stove God Cooks - Big Ass Bracelet: Flygod released a new album this week called “Peace “Fly” God”. It’s WG at his best, braggadocious lyrics over boom bap beats. My favorite tracks of his have soul samples and minimalists beats like on “Big Ass Bracelet”. Gunn rocks Gucci and always keeps a couple Uzis. He was always polite to the fiends he served and sometimes he leaves a tip so big that the waitress throws him some kitty. Stove God prayed that he’d bloom from the dirt and now he’s courtside at the Cuse-Nova game. He enjoys visiting vineyards and wine tasting and his shooters throw bullets like Pat Mahomes. He suggests the opps praise God and fear him and his crew. Go check out “Peace “Fly” God” and be sure to check out another standout track “Bobby Rhude”.
Joey Bada$$ - Survivor's Guilt: Some more NY boom bap excellence. I feel like I’m beating a dead horse by saying Joey’s dropping his album soon (now with a projected release date of July 22th). He dropped this loosie off and paid homage to his deceased homie Capital Steez. JB been struggling without him. They used to talk to each other about their problems and now he doesn’t have him to lean on. He thinks about him everyday and wishes he was still here. He knows Steez had some mental health issues and they had their ups & downs like all friends do, but he also knows he wouldn’t be where he is today without Capital Steez in his life. He also pays his respect to a cousin of his who passed, Junior “June” B who didn’t make it to 25. “This one is for you.” Tough Tune.
Ken Carson - Money Hunt: Up and Comer Ken Carson dropped a project this week called simply “X”. It’s full of the synth-y beats and high-pitched vocals that skyrocketed Playboi Carti to the stratosphere of Hip-Hop (and has fellow up and comer Yeat buzzing). I really liked “Money Hunt”. KC price going up, his life going up, everything going up. He changed his life up, now he iced up. He knows some of the women that chase him aren’t up to his standards so he just focuses on getting to the bag. Go check out “X” if you ever walked to the bathroom in the club but then got trapped in the mosh pit and then just stayed there.
Tyga - Ay Caramba: King of the summer bops is back with a latin-themed tune for ya headtop. All he wants is for you to dance. His chick is hot, she reminds T Raw of Tabasco. He slides off in the Porsche and picks up his big booty bae. He been running it for about 10 summers and this song will keep the streak alive.
Chris Brown ft. Anderson .Paak - Inner Peace: Brown dropped the Deluxe to “Breezy” album this week. This Anderson Paak collab immediately stood out to me. Anderson’s been having dreams like Dr. King. He encourages his shawty not to over think and come get this Inner Peace (may be a euphemism for that D). Brown is going back to the basics, hitting it out the park, and straight annihilating the poonani. Sometimes Breezy has nightmares so he keeps his piece under his pillow for protection. He likes laying with his girl and taking her to another galaxy, a different astral plane, as they plant a seed together so it can grow. Go give “Breezy” (Deluxe) a spin and pour some out for the dead locs.
SiR ft. Scribz Riley - Life Is Good: TDE’s SiR is back at it like a jackrabbit. His life’s good and even though his car is fast as fuck he hasn’t gotten pulled over when he’s gas, brake, dipping. He tells his shawty that he might fly her down to Miami tonight so they can dip their toes in the Atlantic. Or, they can hit Toronto where it’s cold. They can do what they want, anything they like. SiR even enjoys the simple things like rolling another blunt and giving thanks for all these blessings. Scribz Riley had some problems before but he feels good today now that he’s on a different wave. He’s living fast and ain’t no way he ‘bout to slow down. They ain’t know who he was but they know now. Tough Tune.
