The Hit List WEEK 64: (July 11 - July 17)
Yo Gotti, Moneybagg Yo & CMG The Label with 10 Percent - Major Pain: Yo Gotti, Moneybagg Yo and CMG The Label dropped “Gangsta Art” this week, a 27-track compilation album featuring the entire roster (including new signees) and some A1 features. I loved the whole project. It’s filled with slappers. Really loved Major Pain with Moneybagg & 10 Percent. The beat is epic. 10 Percent got steppers from NY to Tennessee. Them boys don’t play about 10. Moneybagg got a bussdown AP and loves doggystyle sex with the lights on. Things he doesn’t like: broke niggas & bitches. When he pop out he got at least 50 steppers with him. Check out “Gangsta Art” and don’t miss these highlights:
Steppers
Rocky Road (with Kodak Black)
G Code (with Mozzy)
Hood Rich (with Lehla Samia & EST Gee)
Tomorrow (with Glorilla)
Strong (with EST Gee & Moneybagg Yo)
Dog House (with Yo Gotti & 42 Dugg ft. DaBoyDame)
Hold Me Down (with 42 Dugg & Coi Leray)
Moral of Da Story (with Yo Gotti & EST Gee)
Really (with Yo Gotti & BIG30)
Emotional Oranges - Bounce: The duo also known as Sad Fruit dropped a loosie this week called Bounce. It’s a funky, soulful bop. Back in the day, they’d roll up in Escalades, hoping to get noticed. Now it’s sunsets & dinners, bottomless D’usse, trendsetting and cash in large amounts.
Sheff G ft. Fivio Foreign & Rowdy Rebel - Kiss Ya Neck: Currently incarcerated spitter Sheff G released a new project this week aptly titled “From The Can”. It features many previously released songs, so it has a compilation feel. I’m guessing he doesn’t have too much access to recording equipment in the big house. My favorite of the new tracks is a joint with fellow NY drillers Fivio & Rowdy. When the G’s get in they lovey dovey bag they channel that thug passion and convert it to adoration for their main bae. Other standouts from “From The Can”:
Drum Dummy
Break From It
On Go (ft. Polo G)
Listen
Like Me (ft. Sleepy Hallow)
Run It Up (ft. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie & Sleepy Hallow)
Tip Toe (with Sleepy Hallow)
Overseas (with Jay Bezzy & Sleepy Hallow)
K Camp - Holy Spirit: That boy Camp dropped a loosie this week that’s sure to lift you up. Beat stupid, Camp don’t chase no booty he chasing the bag. He’s in Turks & Caicos with his main thang. He’s grateful for where he is: breathing and out of harm’s way. He warns the opps to watch out because he got them toasters. He used to be broke but now he up. He encourages his loved ones to play their part and also pays his respects to the late great Virgil Abloh.
Lloyd Banks with Jadakiss - Power Steering: Queens MC Lloyd Banks dropped “Course Of The Inevitable 2” this week, the sequel to last year’s album. Dope project featuring some of the game’s best lyricists. I really love Power Steering with Jadakiss. Lloyd stays focused so he can defy the odds. He wakes up, prays and gets to it (and repeats again the next day). Poverty knocked him off his equilibrium but now he ain’t going nowhere because he keeps delivering. Kiss eats what he kills and you can’t imagine what he’s been through. He guarantees the opps a quick death (he’s a gangsta & a gentleman). He’s a big stepper and warns the young stoners to think twice before smoking with the OG. Check out “Course of The Inevitable 2” and be sure to check out these highlights:
No Reward
Menace
Living Proof (with Benny The Butcher)
Fell In Love
Don’t Switch Up (with Tony Yayo)
Dead Roses
Traffic (with Vado & Dave East)
Meechy Darko - Get Lit or Die Trying: Flatbush Zombie Meechy Darko dropped a loosie this week and its title pays homage to 50’s debut album. He explains to his shawty that he’s not just anybody. He can be found at midnight lit off the henny pushing a high-end Kawasaki motorcycle. He’s a great chef and has the street’s best recipes. His firearms are international (as is his jewelry). Haters don’t like him but he won’t let their hate (or their bullets) stymie his progress.
Ne-Yo - Call Me Up: The Legend, Ne-Yo, dropped a new project this week called “Self Explanatory”. It has an eclectic mix of sounds with some R&B, Dance tracks and some Pop bops. My favorite track is “Call Me Up”. It’s one of those spin the block love songs. Shawty new man ain’t putting it down so she wanna call up her ex. Ne-yo knows the benefit of this setup (and also the consequences when mans catches wind). Even though it might get sticky (in more ways than one) Ne-yo feels it's worth the risk. Other highlights from “Self Explanatory”
You Got The Body
After Party
U 2 Luv (with Jeremih)
Zubin ft. Coi Leray & YungManny - Givenchy: Producer Zubin dropped a collab track with 2 young up & comers Coi Leray & YungManny. Has a wavy 90’s love song vibe. Coi deserves only the finest and her boo keeps her covered in diamonds. He loves when she wears Givenchy. YungManny flies his shawty out west private. She’s his biggest flex. She got that wet wet wet so he gave her his heart right out his chest.
DJ Premier with Slick Rick ft. Lil Wayne - The Root of All: DJ Premier dropped a new EP this week with other Titans of Hip-Hop called “Hip-Hop 50: Vol. 1”. Word on the street it's the first of a few EPs to drop through Mass Appeal (by different artists). My favorite track on this one is “The Root of All” with OG Slick Rick and Weezy F Baby. The beat has that classic Preme feel but also some experimental sounds. Slick starts it off, he warns about loose lips and flexes his wardrobe as he’s been of the flyest since the early aughts of Rap. Tunechi got a wall full of clocks but still don’t got time to kill. He’s got money in large amounts but also knows it's the root of all evil so he keeps the chopper around.
Black Thought & Danger Mouse ft. Michael Kiwanuka - Aquamarine: Black Thought & Danger Mouse are revving up to drop a collab project soon. They blessed us with this single in the meantime. “Aquamarine” features the smooth vocals of Michael Kiwanuka. Tarik talks about World War 3, biology & amoebas, the Quran, higher education (Berkley & Juilliard) and nicks of reefer. He’s a king and an alien, made in the image of God (with Divine Bars to boot).
Rexx Life Raj - New Normal: Bay Area MC Rexx Life Raj dropped a new album this week called “The Blue Hour”. RLR has been one of my favorite artists over the past few years and he more than delivered with this project. My favorite track is the previously released “Save Yourself” but I want to highlight “New Normal”. It starts off with a prayer from his late mother. An acoustic guitar is the main thread of the minimalist beat. Faraji sings about change, things not being the same, and embracing the New Normal. He can feel his mother’s energy all around him. Everytime he sees something beautiful, it reminds him of her. He’s thankful for the Agape love that his mother gave to him and is getting used to her not being here (The New Normal). Check out the “The Blue Hour” and these other standout tracks:
Save Yourself
Beauty In The Madness (with Fireboy DML & Wale)
Balance
Scared Money
Settled (ft. Russ)
Joey Bada$$ - Zip Codes: Bro I’m not doing this anymore. Drop the fucking album Joey! I mean it. You already gave us half the shit. Every week a new track for like the past 2 months. At least there’s a date now, this Friday July 22nd (allegedly). If it don’t drop and he releases another loosie next week I’m gonna have a friggin conniption. (All said facetiously of course… Don’t hurt me Badmon)
Steve Lacy - Helmet: Steve Lacy (no relation to Eddie) dropped a new project this week called “Gemini Rights” and it immediately set The Internet ablaze (not his group the actual world wide web). Even Ye had to shower the young king with praise for this work of Art. My favorite track is “Helmet”. It has a soulful 70’s vibe. Steve exclaims that he’s not for sale and admits knowing his relationship won’t last forever. All he can be is himself and he feels that it’s time to bounce. He tried to play pretend but it’s weighing on him and he implores his lover to let go as he’s trying to do the same. Other highlights from “Gemini Rights”:
Static
Bad Habit
Cody Freestyle
Mozzy - Open Arms: Heavily featured on the CMG compilation project (he’s a recent signee) Mozzarella is set to drop a solo project this upcoming week (Friday July 22nd). He came through with this lead-in single. It’s that heartfelt shit. He talks about the reality of the streets and how it often leads to the graveyard or the prison yard. The streets took him and his homies in with open arms but left them with broken hearts. He made it out and now it’s Lambo’s & Rollies. He got bread so he stay with a toaster and he warns the opps to be careful playing around on the net.
Seddy Hendrix ft. Fivio Foreign - Groovy: Seddy Hendrix dropped a Gangsta Grillz tape this week called “Well Sed”. He’s a Generation Now signee (DJ Drama’s new label) so it was a family affair. The project is super dope, lotta dope melodies to vibe to. My favorite track is “Groovy” with Fivi (“Lights” is a close 2nd) “Groovy” has a snap beat with some drill elements. Sed delivers a message to a PYT. Her ass real but them titties fake and how he put it down makes her forget her man. They both movin & grooving and Sed tryna spend more than one night (that kitty got him hooked and she fell for him too). Fivio warns the bitties to be careful with him, he’s a bad influence. His lil mama got an accent. He gives her long strokes and she is also a magician. Her favorite trick is now you see it, now you don’t! Go give “Well Sed” a spin and don’t miss these standouts:
Well Sed
Passion
Lights
Again
Melii - Have You Seen Her?: Melli dropped a new EP this week called “Medusa”. My favorite track is “Have You Seen Her?” Beat crazy! Melli feels like the man now. She got hella bands now, flying city to city dodging bad vibes. She starts spitting in Spanish with bars so fresh like Aquafina.
Larry June - Private Valet: Mr Ay Ay Ay Ay dropped a loosie this week. Epic, triumphant beat with strings & horns. LJ cruising the streets in a Lambo with a brown skin cutie. He just spent half a ticket, but it's nothing to him. The game is so cold, it ain’t got no love for you, and Larry just wants you to keep that top of mind. Rap is his new trap. He vacuum seals his ad libs then sends them to the track.
Lizzo - I Love You Bitch: Lizzo Dropped a surprise album this week called “Special”. I’m not the biggest Lizzo fan but I loved this project. It’s candid, funny, and authentic. My favorite track is this friendship anthem “I Love You Bitch”. She’s been under pressure and doesn’t want to burden her homie. Instead she makes a list of her friend’s best attributes (she’s beautiful, smart and talented). When she’s got her amiga by her side, she don’t need no wish. Their bond has Lizzo screaming “I Love You Bitch!” Go check out “Special” and make sure to listen for these highlights:
The Sign
About Damn Time
Grrrls
Naked
Birthday Girl
Rowdy Rebel ft. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie & Jadakiss - New York: Rowdy Rebel dropped a new project this week called “Rebel vs. Rowdy”. I really loved “New York” with fellow Empire State MCs A Boogie & Jada. A Boogie handles the hook and has 100 guns and 100 clips, he’s from New York (like the Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Jada classic “New York”). Snap beat, Rowdy pushes a Cullinan and you’ll never catch him cuddling. He meets a sexy young lady but he’s really attracted to her friend. They don’t really make em like Rowdy no more and he’s not going back to where he’s from. A Boogie knows how to tell the real from the fake. He’s dripped in Amiri with a bussdown pushing a Bentley. He’s always spinning blocks. Mr. Raspy has sold everything from crack to Newports. He from the Apple where you gotta know how to grapple. If you ain’t fuckin wit it you a hater (Kiss’s words not mine). Other standouts:
Understand Me
Rowdy vs Rebel
Rico Nasty - Skullflower: Rico Nasty dropped a loosie that has a bit of a 80’s synth wave sound to it. Rico rocks Maison Margiela and guzzles tequila. She vows to never chase a man. She’s ripping & running but winds down in her mansion. She warns the opps that they better not step on her toes or they’ll get humbled real real quick.
Foolio with La Cracka - Get Down: Foolio released a new album this week called “Life of Me”. The project is as my dad used to say “thorough”. It’s an excellent project and it was tough coming up with a favorite but I chose “Get Down”. It has a classic New Orleans sounding beat. Foolio has never seen a UFO or a bitch that he ever needed. He vows to pop out and put a nigga on a tee if they cross him. He used to be on the lean and mollyed up but now he’s sober and in the cut ready for war. La Cracka warns the opps not to come to his hood. Come around his way and you might get your car flipped. When you see Cracka Jack you should prolly just run. Go check out “Life of Me” and especially these standouts:
Looking For You
BeyBey Kid
Limelight
Sacrifice My Life
Free Smoke (ft. G Herbo)
