The Hit List Week 66: (July 25 - July 31)
Beyonce - SUMMER RENAISSANCE: The Queen has arrived! Bey’s been teasing this “RENAISSANCE” album for some time now and even released “Break My Soul” to give us a taste of what was to come. It’s a true Dance album. This will be in heavy rotation at pool parties, clubs and cookouts for the rest of 2022. Grammy noms incoming. I loved the whole album (I’m a Jersey club kid). SUMMER RENAISSANCE might be my favorite track. It samples a loop from Ye’s “Fade” which is already a bop. Beyonce acts as the conductor on the dance train “It’s so good, it’s good, it’s so good” The beat also has a snap feel with a repeating clap. Perfect track for cruising in the whip or almost every gathering except a funeral. Go give “RENAISSANCE” a listen if you haven’t yet and check out these highlights:
I’M THAT GIRL
CUFF IT
ENERGY
BREAK MY SOUL
CHURCH GIRL
MOVE
THIQUE
AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM
JAE5 ft. Dave & BNXN - Propeller: Producer and King of Afrobeats (and whose track “Dimension” with Skepta & Rema is one of my all time faves) JAE5, dropped a new track with UK Dave and BNXN. BNXN spins the block like a big Propeller. He came with his team, his brothers. Dave chills in the West End, ready for war. He lets you know that he stays strapped (with a Big .44). He’s married to the hustle, the money is his best man. He finds it hard to trust and everyday gives God the glory.
Wiz Khalifa ft. Girl Talk – Big Daddy Wiz: Pittsburgh finest released a new album called “Multiverse” this week. It features a diverse mix of sounds (including Wiz getting his Barry White on). It did help that he went viral for punking some DJs in the club and it made sense because his new project is super dope and they should have been spinning it. I love the opening track “Big Daddy Wiz” as it samples K Positive’s hit “I Got a Man” (I’m a sucker for a sample). Produced by fellow Pittsurburghian, Girl Talk, Wiz talks his shit. He don’t call the bitties at all and they still like him. He don’t rock Nikes, only Gucci loafers. He rocks a Rollie and rolls around with only the baddest of chicks and the finest of herbs. Shawty does need to have her shit together to roll with him. All he asks is that you don’t steal his keys or spill his tea, don’t overstay your welcome, and also, say Thank You. Go listen to “Multiverse” and these standouts:
Memory Lane
1000 Women (ft. THEY.)
Something Real
High Maintenance
Bad Ass Bitches
Homies
Thank Him
Young Dolph - Hall of Fame: The late great Memphis legend would have been 38 this week (7/27). In honor of his b-day his estate dropped this new track. Epic beat, Dolph never did it for the clout, he did it for the game. You can walk into any trap in the South and I bet they know his name. After he stacked his first 100 bands he vowed to do it again. He took a meeting with Roc Nation but the opps was signed there so he decided to pass. He always encouraged the young cats around him and told them that they could accomplish anything. Long Live Dolph.
Hotboii ft. Lil Uzi Vert - Fashion: Florida Man Hotboii dropped his 2nd project in the last 365 days, this one called “Blinded By Death”. It’s an amazing project, Hotboii is excellent at finding top tier beats for his flow. He also got 2 Uzi features and my favorite track on the album happens to be one of them, “Fashion”. Uzi’s got different hoes to smash. He told shawty she don’t have to wait, Uzi can hit her back today. LUV’s got diamonds of all colors but no Tik Tok account. Hotboii has hittas on the ready for his call. He got glocks & drums, drop top whips and an icy wrist. Other highlights from “Blinded By Death”:
2 Much
Throw In The Towel (with Lil Uzi Vert)
No Brakes (verZatile)
First Class
Bad News
Live Life Die Faster (with Kodak Black)
Rich How I’m Dying
Jay Worthy & Harry Fraud ft. Kamaiyah - Good Lookin’: Jay Worthy & Harry Fraud seem to be gearing up to drop a project. After releasing Helicopter Homicide with Conway & Big Body Bes last week, they’re back at it again with this Kamaiyah collab. The beat has a sound that’s a mix of 90’s Hip-Hop and 70’s Funk/Soul. Kamaiyah kicks it off. She cruises down Melrose but reps the Bay. She knows the opps stole her swag and she dresses better than all of em. You gotta pay for her time because she’s good looking (damn right she is!) Jay Worthy is a P, he’s never been a sucker. He cruises up the 110 heading to Broadway to do donuts. He don’t mind smashing up the whip, he’ll get a new one. You might also catch him in Harlem at the Rucker. Can’t wait for this project to drop. First two joints have been slaps.
Maxo Kream ft. Babyface Ray - MIXIN JUICES: TX spitter Maxo Kream released the Deluxe to his album “WEIGHT OF THE WORLD”. He added 6 new tracks, 3 of which he dropped before the Deluxe. My favorite of the 3 previous unreleased tracks is “MIXIN JUICES” with Babyface Ray. Maxo sips Wock and when the opps see him they tuck their chains and flee immediately. His trap is chunky as it stays filled with cash and/or product. He’s skilled with many different firearms so be careful when approaching. Babyface Ray swings slabs and never sleeps without his Glizzy. He warns the homies not to French Kiss certain ladies as they were recently performing fellatio.
Tems - No Woman No Cry: Comic-con was last week and Marvel debuted the trailer for the sequel to Black Panther, “Wakanda Forever”. The trailer was carried by this Tems track, a flip of the Bob Marley classic. It was released on what seems like a Pre-Soundtrack for Wakanda Forever, a 3 track EP called “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Prologue.”
Buddy ft. Gwen Bunn - Long Day (Pussy Crazy): Buddy released a Deluxe to his album “Superghetto”. The vibes are effervescent, the added tracks are really top tier. I really love “Long Day (Pussy Crazy)” featuring Gwen Bunn. Groovy LA-type beat, Buddy had a Long Day and he’s on the way to his bae. He’s got a lil road rage and he needs a release. He’s been waiting, anticipating and he knows from experience that the Pussy Crazy. Gwen been waiting all day for her bae and he’s one call away. He takes his time when they link (usually every other night). Check out “Superghetto” (Deluxe) and my other favorite of the new tracks “Or Something”
Gucci Mane - Dissin The Dead: Well isn’t this a pleasant surprise. The man who was one half of the most intense Verzuz ever. Who disrespected his opponent’s dead homie (who he actually shot & killed) has done an about face. He is now against Dissin The Dead homies and dropped this track to express his newfound sentintent. He acknowledges that he started the trend but believes the trend has got to end. He’s getting older and knows this Hip-Hop culture gotta stick together to thrive against outside forces looking to take it down (or exploit it for profit). So from Big Guwop to you: Stop Dissin The Dead.
K Camp - Bullseye: K Camp dropped a new project this week called “Vibe Forever”. Loved the project and have always admired Camps ability to seamlessly transition from melodic flows to hard bars. My favorite track is “Bullseye”. It’s about beating the pussy up and when the stroke is so precise you nail it like a dart to a bullseye. His boo asks that when he takes a pic take her good side. And when he pulls up she doesn’t want him to bring his Hood side (she wants the lover not the fighter). Camp gets to it when he’s in them walls and when he’s getting to the cash. Check out “Vibe Forever” and these standouts:
Holy Spirit
Luxury Garments
To The Moon
Milwaukee
Rod Wave - Stone Rolling: Rod Wave is gearing up for an album drop next week and he dropped of a single. It has that signature Rod Wave sound, downtempo, soulful. Rod is a Rolling Stone, strong as the wind he comes and he goes. Driving many miles and still can’t find home. He's been living life like a runaway since he was 18, touring all over the country on his tour bus. Carolina, Tennessee, Vegas he’s seen all of the US and he’s hoping for one more run then some time off to rest.
Bankroll Freddie - Letter To Dolph: QC’s Bankroll Freddie dropped a new album this week called “From Trap To Rap 2” My favorite track was this ode to the late great Young Dolph (who would have been 36 this week). The beat has a gospel feel and Bankroll pays homage to Dolph as he holds back tears. He wishes he was there with him because he woulda had that iron ready. Dolph always gave him good advice like work hard but also have fun. Freddie worries about Dolph’s parents, kids and homies and how they’re gonna hold up with him gone. Even though he gone his legacy will forever live on. Long Live Dolph! Go check out “From Trap To Rap 2” and don’t miss these standouts:
Bows (ft. Money Man)
Da Truth
Water (with Young Dolph)
Legend
Pandemic Boys (with Big Moochie Grape & Kenny Muney)
Quavo & Takeoff ft. Gucci Mane - Us vs Them: “Unc & Phew” continue dropping slaps. Seems like they got a project coming. This new loosie with Gucci is a certified banger. The guys say fuck the other side, they going for the win. If is them vs the opps, who you think gon’ win? I’ll tell you what, Quay and Tay gon’ spin and spin until they win. Bulletproof whips and Chrome 9’s they’re ready for whatever. They handle their business, bang all the bitties (and their friends) and cruise the city in Lambos to relax. Gucci calls for the authorities to release Young Thug, Gunna, Pooh Sheisy & Foogiano (Amen). He’s proof that a street nigga can turn into an exec (and a damn good one at that). He warns the youngins to watch their words (because sometimes words are answered with hollow tip bullets). It’s only after bodies start dropping that there’s a call for peace (and it doesn’t have to get that far, Gucci believes).
Domo Genesis ft. Navy Blue - Skeletons: Odd Future alum Domo Genesis released a new project this week called “Intros, Outros & Interludes”. It was widely praised as soon as it dropped for its A1 lyricism. My favorite track is “Skeletons” featuring Navy Blue. It has a boom-bap beat laced with horns. Domo admits that the skeletons in his closet are piling up. He fought his hardest and he knows he gotta take one step at a time. He’s got that Tiger Blood and he’s choosing violence over silence (right now at least) so don’t test him. Navy Blue made a mess and knows there are consequences. He’s immersed, on a mission to lift generational curses. The last life he lived was lonely and he can feel those echoes. He understands that human beings are egocentric and we all got some work to do. Other highlights from “Intro, Outros & Interludes”:
Don’t Believe Half
Stay One More Day
Victories & Losses (ft. Evidence)
Larry June - In My Pockets: I feel like the Bay Area Player has been on the list for like a month straight. From loosies to features, it feels like Mr Ay Ay Ay Ay is about to drop a project. In My Pockets has a feel good vibe. It’s a sunny day and Larry’s whippin around the city after he just closed a deal. He doesn’t want the booty if he can’t use a condom. Drop top vehicles and pretty ass women (a few of his favorite things). If you wanna get the guap you gotta take a chance and that’s how he got all that money in his pockets.
$uicideboy$ - 1000 Blunts: Duo $uicideboy$ dropped a project this week called “Sing Me a Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation” and it’s impressive. They may hate the description “Emo Rap” but their lyrical content and vibe has some Emo elements but it’s still hard, raw & real. My favorite track is 1000 Blunts (it’s probably the song I’ve played the most this week of all the songs in the universe). Melodic vocal loop and a high-hat loop set the mood. They still stay with 1000 blunts, drank in the cup and a young lady who enjoys thrusts. They never feel okay but to release, they fly private all over the world. They bounce around padded rooms and got so comfy in straight jackets they made it a fashion. Only weed keeps them from bugging and seeking out more destruction. Check out “Sing Me a Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation” and be sure to check out these tracks:
Matte Black
Escape From BABYLON
Ashes of Luxury
Unlucky Me
Dave East - What Y’all Want (Eastmix): Meet Dave East. A dope rapper from NYC. Meet the beat from Eve’s smash hit “What Y’all Want” produced by Swizz Beatz. Dave East + a Swizz Beat = a Tough Tune. Just go listen, you won’t be disappointed.
Soulja Boy - Come Here Girl: Big Soulja dropped a project this week called “Soulja World 2”. The album is full of bops and I really like “Come Here Girl”. The message is simple, Soulja has spotted a woman with a gigantic derriere and he would like to have doggystyle sexual relations with here so he hollers to her “Come Here Girl!” Other “Soulja World 2” highlights:
Bust It Down
Opps & Glocks
Novacane
Lil Zay Osama & Lil Durk - Fuck My Cousin, Pt. II: It seems like Chicago niggas don’t really be rocking with they cousins like that. First Ye, now LZO & Durk. Zay dropped “Fuck My Cousin” awhile back but got Durk to bless the track for Part 2. Zay tells the homies if he catch them linkin with opps they getting smoked. Even if they like the opps posts they gonna have a target on they ass. He be slaying his opps bms when the opps is locked up. Durk agreed to keep children out the beef but cousins are fair game. The block be hot but Durk will just set up shop down the way. With the hot streak he’s on, he’s feeling like he’s bigger than Ye.
Fenix Flexin - Mo Digits: Shoreline Mafia’s Fenix Flexin dropped the sequel to last year's project with “Fenix Flexin Vol. 2”. My favorite track is Mo Digits. It has a club-ready snap beat. FF is a baller, never on the bench. If he catches an opp he’s gonna handle business and he won’t say anything about it to anyone. His favorite women are gold diggers who bring him Mo Digits. Give “Fenix Flexin Vol. 2” a spin and check out these standouts:
ZaZa
Red Flag
Threat
