The Hit List Week 67: (August 1 - August 7)
NBA YoungBoy ft. Rod Wave- Home Ain’t Home: YB dropped his long awaited project this week entitled “The Last Slimeto”. It’s a big one (pause) with 30 tracks and a lil something for everyone with some hard street shit and some melodic introspective joints. My favorite track, “Home Ain’t Home” with Rod Wave, is the latter. Youngboy feeling like his home ain't a Home. He also feel like everyone that loved him is gone. He been trying to find his way on his own. Rod Wave made it from the gutter. He has 3 houses but no home yet. He still don’t feel good, he feels alone. This that emo, country rap shit (it’s signature Rod Wave). Go give “Last Slimeto” a listen and check out these highlights:
Hold Your Own
Top Sound
Kamikaze
Slow Down
Don’t Rate Me (ft. Quavo)
Acclaimed Emotions
Nightfall
Mr. Grim Reaper
Kaytranada & Anderson .Paak - Twin Flame: The Canadian producer and Cali artist linked for a funky loosie. Bass kick and a piano loop light the way. AP spits to his soul mate. The snap/clap breaks and electric guitar threads really sauce it up. Groovy tune.
Jay Worthy & Harry Fraud ft. A$AP Twelvyy- Winnipeg Winters: Jay Worthy & Harry Fraud finally dropped their collab project called “You Take the Credit, We’ll Take the Check” and it’s lit! Fraud on the beats, Worthy with the bars and some dope collabs. My favorite album cut is “Winnipeg Winters” with Twelvvy. Minimalist beat with a soul sample and almost no drums. J-Dub describes the track as a 1970’s shoot up your vein flow. He’s a West Side nigga who watches his back for the devils and gunsmoke. He rolls around comfortably in a Lambo and he don’t really rock with most rappers because they goofy. Twelvvy lived a hellish life. He was a rotten apple growing senseless but now he poppin touring the globe. The ladies love him for his intellect and his pockets stay full of cash. Other highlights from “You Take the Credit, We’ll Take the Check”:
Believe
Good Lookin’ (ft. Kamaiyah)
Helicopter Homicide (ft. Conway The Machine & Big Body Bes)
Tonight
DJ Khaled ft. Drake & Lil Baby - Staying Alive: Khaled is prepping an album and he got two of his favorite collaborators to lay the vocals for this one. People tried Drake a hundred times. Wanted him to lie, wanted him to cry, wanted him to die. But he’s Staying Alive. Shortys be coming over once and falling in love. He’s been on this planet 30+ years and still doesn’t know what he wants (or what he needs). Lil Baby threw his feelings aside, shawty wanted him to die but he’s Staying Alive. He’s a hood nigga turn superstar but he fucks all his bitties good like he’s still in the streets.
Kamaiyah & Young Slo-Be - Its On the Flo: Kamaiyah released the Deluxe to her “Divine Timing” album. It’s more like Part 2 as there were 7 tracks on the OG and 8 tracks added with the Deluxe. I love the whole project and I love Kamaiyah’s laid back West Coast vibe, but also the inspirational grind from the bottom to the top bars. My favorite track on the Deluxe is “It’s On the Flo” featuring Young Slo-Be who tragically lost his life this week at the age of 29. Check out “Divine Timing” (Deluxe) and these highlights:
Fascinating
Blue Maserati (Remix) [ft. Lloyd]
REASON ft. The Game - Impalas & Hydraulics: TDE’s Reason dropped this loosie with The Game (who should be dropping an album shortly). It’s that classic West Coast shit. Dickies, Chucks, and LA Dodgers hats. Reez always keeps it 100 and was raised to expect violence. He warns those living life loud that they are soon to be dead quiet. Game thought he was a samurai the way he was chopping up bricks in Bompton. He makes sure the opps are truly gone by checking the hearse then going to the gravesite and stomping the dirt.
ShittyBoyz - LionHearted: 2022 XXL Freshman BabyTron, and his crew ShittyBoyz, released a project this week called “Trifecta 2”. The whole project is superdope. My favorite track is “LionHearted” The guys have hella ice and designer durags. Before they got the bread they had a plan and now they push Lambos and smash the baddest of smeezys (and they don’t mind faux-ass). They always keep the flame on them and all they homies Rich like Quan. They been the shit like Mr. Hankey. Go give “Trifecta 2” a spin and don’t miss these standouts:
Win or Lose
V8’s & V12’s
Cheers B!tch
Getaway
GGG
Leon Thomas ft. Ty Dolla $ign - Love Jones: I first came across Leon Thomas when he appeared on “Insecure” as The Nigga Downstairs who Issa was smashing. Come to find out he’s a talented singer as well. I didn’t even realize this was him until the song was over and I was like “Ain’t that mans?”. And I turned on the TV today and he was in a commercial with Ty Dolla (he getting money 8 ways like Jeezy). “Love Jones” is a downtempo classic R&B track. LT brags about his shawty in autotune. She’s on a billboard and she just bought a house in the Sunset Hills. He enjoys Californicating with her but wants a lil mo. Ty changed up his watch to match his baes tennis chain. He just hit another 8 figure deal and he’s cruising with his shawty down Sunset and up Melrose. She just wanna play all day.
Kalan.FrFr - Pull Up: This is a Cali heavy week (half this list is CA artists. Are they taking over?). Roc Nation signee Kalan.Fr.Fr (2 For Real) dropped an album this week called 222. It contains an assortment of melodic bops from tracks for the ladies to the soul-searching tracks like “Going Through Things” (my other favorite). I love Pull Up too. He asks his shawty where she at and tells her to Pull Up right away. She’s been outside all day and he figures she must be hungry (because she’s an eater). She a vibe, vibe, vibe and she fly, fly, fly. Her titties getting big since she been eating all them yams and them greens. An NBA nigga slid in the DMs to fly her out but she didn’t respond because she was wit Kalan. Check out “222” and these highlights:
Get Your Money
Light Breeze
Rich Party
No Stoppin (ft. Blxst)
Going Through Things
$NOT - Immaculate: Florida’s $NOT dropped a loosie this week. Mellow snap beat while he talks shit. He smoking but his mind don’t be open to that bullshit. He’s full of emotions while he’s sippin drank. He only trusts himself and is especially cautious of women. He humps em and dumps em, he’s Mr. Let-A-Bitch-Breathe. Everybody’s all in his business and he’s warning the opps they better not test him because he’ll spin the block until it’s Silent Hill.
Yella Beezy - Love It Here: Dallas’ Yella Beezy dropped an album this week called “Bad Azz Yella Boy”. My favorite track is “Love It Here”. He admits that his main damie is toxic and the pussy toxic but he loves it there. We all been there, in the grips of the p-u-s-s-y. Shawty likes designer clothes and exotic whips and Yella’s down with splurging ‘cause she got that gripper. Other standouts from “Bad Azz Yella Boy”
Pay For It
DFWM
Out The Jar (ft. Icewear Vezzo)
Football Dreams
Duke Deuce, Quavo & GloRilla - Just Say That (Remix): Duke Deuce dropped the Remix to Just Say That from his most recent project “CRUNKSTAR”. He got Quavo to hop on the track that already had Memphis’ newest gem and recent CMG signee, GloRilla. The track samples the keys the from the beginning of DMX’s “What’s My Name”. DD is asking for honesty. If you broke, Just Say That. If you yappin and you ain’t done, Just Say That. Quavo has someone’s girl on her knees in his Maybach. He asks his homies if they can’t handle moving the weight, Just Say That. If the opps dump at him or Duke he sprays back. He only rolls with real Gs and asks those around them if they pussy, Just Say That. Glo asks men to be honest if they got a situation. She warns that she might fuck a dude’s life up so move carefully. She might send a couple nudes if you send a couple benjis her way (no guarantee).
Ron Suno - LITTY: NY Drill Rapper Ron Suno dropped an album this week called “Suno Mode”. It’s a dope project full of upbeat drill (perfect for the gym juu heard). My favorite track is “LITTY”. It’s classic Drill, Ron Suno got a shooter with him. He gets lit off Henny and invites a bitty over to get LITTY. He gets busy all over the city. He lets the tooly sing when necessary. His pockets are full and that makes his haters very upset. Check out “Suno Mode” and these highlights:
TONY
WHAT THEY GON SAY (ft. Zay Munna)
SHOES (with DUSTY LOCANE & Rah Swish)
ONE NIGHT
OH LETS DO IT
WHAT THEY GON SAY (Remix) [ft. Rowdy Rebel]
Black Soprano Family, Benny The Butcher & DJ Premier ft. Heem & Rick Hyde - Times is Rough: BSF & Preem is a match made in heaven. Griselda been rappin on Preem-type beats since they blew so it’s only right they link. This one has the Preem sound, boom-bap and scratches. Benny set the bar and came through like a wrecking ball. He says “Being up feel good, but not better than being sure” If it ain’t Griselda, it ain’t it. Heem tells the truth and stacks paper like Pringle chips. If the D’s blitz then he pleading the fifth. He spending your re-up money in Saks (it’s light work to him). He’s ready to turn up the temp and bring the Family a win. Multihyphenate Rick Hyde is running base (in more ways than one). He took advantage of his better moments. He got it out the mud and at this point, the opps not even a challenge.
Calvin Harris ft. Charlie Puth & Shenseea - Obsessed: Calvin Harris dropped a project this week called “Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 2”. It’s a vibe. Chill, summertime sound throughout. I love “Day One” with Pusha T & Pharrell and also this Charlie Puth/Shenseea collab. On “Obsessed” Charlie Puth is missing his bae, but she doesn’t even look his way. He wishes she was Obsessed with him. Shenessea isn’t that regular degular. Dudes be obsessed with her and just to holler, they better come with a Louis V bag. And you better have an Aston Martin and a Big Mansion. She don’t even like dudes, she says we all dogs. She’d rather just use her toys.
