The Hit List #7: (June 7 - June 13) [2021]
Ransom - Envy: Early this week Ransom released “Se7en” a seven track project with the 7 Deadly Sins as its theme. On this standout track he has a message to the opps, check ya self before you wreck yourself. Also, don’t bite the hand that feeds. Cats blow they blessing by hating on the next man, but Ran just be meditating in his McClaren, seeing everything 3 moves ahead like a chessmaster. Check out the whole project, but here are my favorites from “Se7en”:
Gluttony (ft. Lloyd Banks)
Greed (ft. Royce Da 5’9”)
Lust/L.U.S.T. (ft. IX WULF)
Pride
Migos ft. Polo G - Malibu: Culture III dropped this week and this track stood out not just for its top shelf production, but for having the rising star Polo G (who also released an album this week, but we’ll get to that later). These big steppers flex throughout the track, highlighting their lavish lifestyles including but not limited to: drop top whips (specifically Bentleys, Hellcats, Rolls-Royce Cullinans), Richard Millie watches, Patek Philippe watches, yachts, Chrome Hearts, Perccocets, Xanax, Glocks, Hennessy, Fendi, missiles, stocks & bonds, and sexual relations with multiple women at the same time. Check these other tracks from “Culture 3”:
Having Our Way (ft. Drake)
Avalanche
Birthday
Modern Day
Anti Social ft. JuiceWrld
Time For Me
Need It (ft. NBA YoungBoy)
Polo G - Painting Pictures - Polo G’s Hall of Fame is arguably the best project to drop this week and the sales prove it as it’s projected to finish #1. This track is a dedication to Polo’s lost homies. He also promotes unity over division, “Say, ‘fuck the opposites’, but deep down we really all alike.” He expresses a high level of self awareness of his potential, his unwavering belief in his greatness, and an understanding that in order to truly be great, he’ll have to produce great art over a long time. So far so good! Some of my other favorite tracks from “Hall of Fame”:
Rapstar
Gang Gang ft. Lil Wayne
Boom
Broken Guitars (ft. Scorey)
GNF (OKOKOK)
Heart of a Giant (ft. Rod Wave)
Zooted Freestyle
Party Lyfe (ft. DaBaby)
So Real
Fame & Riches (ft. Roddy Ricch)
For the Love of New York (ft. Nicki Minaj)
Bloody Canvas
Tone Stith ft. H.E.R. - When You Love Someone: New Jersey’s own, Tone Stith, has been bubbling for quite some time now. He’s produced top-tier R&B tracks and collabed with the biggest artists in the game including Quavo, 2 Chainz, Ty Dolla & Swae Lee and more. He released a new project this week “FWM” (an acronym for Fuck With Me) and it didn’t disappoint. This song will probably be most people’s favorite (as it is mine) because not only does it feature the one and only, H.E.R. It also samples Donnell Jones’ classic record “Where I Wanna Be”. This one is about love on the rocks. Tone was wildin, but now he letting shorty know that she the only one for him. He wants to make it up to her, then make love to her. Some more heat from “FWM’:
Worth It
Be Quiet (ft. Kiana Lede)
When I’m With You
CMDGF
Emotional Oranges ft. Vince Staples - Back & Forth: Emotional Oranges released an album this week entitled “The Juicebox”. A few of the songs dropped previously (“All That” is my shit!) but this one is a highlight. It’s about the tennis match that is love. Going back and forth with each other only to realize you have someone special right in front of you. Also from “The Juicebox.”
All That (ft. Channel Tres)
Body & Soul (ft. Biig Piig)
Bonafide (ft. Chiiild)
Lock It Up (ft. THEY)
Marshmello - Fairytale: We fuck with EDM here a ToughTune.com! The world-renowned DJ released “Shockwave” this week, a 12-track album full of fire. This one stuck out, it sound like the EDM version of the theme music from a Zelda-esque video game. Dreamy, magical, and hard. Exactly how women describe my (redacted).
Supernovacane
Back It Up
Hitta (ft. Juicy J)
Shockwave
IDK - Peloton: Tough Tune! IDK has a heart to heart with his shawty on this one. He acknowledges his flaws and is willing to work on them but only if she puts in work too. He knows the ladies is on him because he got that bread but he questions his girl’s expectations. He also delivers a message to his unborn daughter. Any nigga she bring home will be getting the Reggie treatment from Bad Boys 2.
Tyga ft. Moneybagg Yo - Splash: Sampling the classic 2 Live Crew song “We Want Some Pussy'' and featuring a music video with hella ass, Tyga gets in his strip club/party anthem bag and cooks up another hit. Tyga instructs the ladies to drop ass, get cash, sip fast, hit the gas and do the dash (maybe not the last one). Moneybagg Yo enjoys OPP and sometimes has to sneak out the house when the young lady's significant other shows up unexpectedly and smells badussy in the air.
K Camp - Game Ain’t Free: Lots of love going around this week. K Camp dropped this one, with a dope video to accompany it. I don’t know if that’s his shawty in the video but they got some chemistry and I wouldn’t be surprised if she was the inspiration for this song. He’s proud of shawty, her booty is bodacious and every time he lays eyes on her he wants to cuddle. This whole song oozes adoration and admiration for that special someone. Camp is smitten.
Juicy J ft. Rico Nasty - Take It: Juicy’s gearing up to drop his new album “The Hustle Still Continues” and has been on a bit of a roll recently. Featuring one of the most unique artists in the game, Rico Nasty, this club anthem encourages the ladies to take it to the head, don’t be scared, turn up to the max. Aimed at those ultra-rich women who travel overseas and have Birkin and Celine bags. The ones that smoke marijuana leaves and also enjoy a bit of recreational cocaine. That’s who Juicy shouts out in his verse. Rico admits to being nervous around risk-averse people. She also never checks the tag when shopping, owns all her whips, and will put all her faith in God henceforth.
H.E.R. - We Made It: One of the most talented musicians of this generation dropped this soulful jam this week. Gabby is grateful for her boo. She knew he was the one way before the money and the fame. She also flexes her come up on the track. The naysayers said she wouldn’t make it to the top with the fam, nor win a couple Grammy’s but she did that and more and the revenge tastes oh so sweet.
Justin Bieber ft. Ludacris, Usher & Snoop Dogg - Peaches (Remix): The Biebs! The Canadian Megastar released a true remix to his most recent hit with a slower-tempo beat and subbed out Giveon & Daniel Caesar. Ludacris kicks it off, he gets his peaches in GA (naturally) but he gets his crushed grapes in Mauritius which is probably a fancy place rich people get wine from. Usher likes him a Georgia girl with a big booty and taste for the finest trees. The Doggfather forgoes all the talk about peaches and apples and focuses on the weed from California (that’s his shit).
Remble - Touchable: I’m always a fan of creators who carve out their own lane. Those who give us something a little different and this is that. Remble has most definitely come a long way from Pre-K and eating Lunchables and on this track he warns the opps that they are Touchable. He has an assortment of guns and he describes how he’ll use them in the most eloquent terms. This is probably the most proper grammar ever heard in a rap song, and the way Remble uses that perfect English to describe the many ways he and his crew will annihilate you is just phenomenal. Give this one a listen. Tough Tune fa sho.
Pi’erre Bourne - HULU: The producer released a new album this week, “The Life of Pi’erre 5” and this was my favorite track. Slow tempo, I found his assortment of shoutouts a reflection of his vast interests. Midnight Club, Crimson Chin and Grey’s Anatomy references in the same verse? Pi’erre got the cheat code because he can make his own beats and he uses it to craft such great music. Below are some other highlights from TLOP5:
Sossboy 2 (ft. Lil Uzi Vert)
Switching Lanes (ft. Playboi Carti)
Couch
Groceries
4U
Larry June - Tangible Assets: The Oakland MC dropped an album this week “Orange Print” and this track has the streets buzzin. LJ talks about the come up, how he was broke and stressed out but now it’s Ferrari 458’s and Mercedes-Benz AMG S63’s when it’s time to skate. He’ll also pull up on a BMX bike (Dyno with the mags to be exact) or a motorbike. He saves 98% of his earnings and you’ll rarely find him in the club because he’s too busy puttin in work. Also check out these other dope tracks from “Orange Print”:
Intercepted (ft. Money Man)
Organic Respect
JayDaYoungan - Tear Drops: The Louisiana native returned this week with his new album “23 is back” The melodic JDY hit us with some Motivation Music. This song is about staying positive in the midst of adversity. The night is the darkest before dawn. Jay knows this, and assures us that “Everything is gonna be OK… Anything possible with faith” Amen. Also from “23 is Back”:
Young Niggas
Confidential Decisions
Pacman Da Gunman - Tha Truth: The Marathon Continues! “Prove what to who? I’m the The Truth, bitch I been that.. Heavy hitter nigga, I’m the bigger picture nigga” The All Money In rapper dropped the appropriately titled “Less is More“ an 8-track album full of bangerz. On “The Truth” Pacman talks that talk over a bouncy West-Coast beat. He tells the opps that he will send them to Heaven (or Hell) with a smile on his face. He’s the one with the gun, he’s the rabbit (like Bugs and Elmer Fudd). He cut some entitled friends off and he couldn’t care less how they feel. He spends his earnings on Cuban-link chains, Rolexes, Benzes and Goyard clothes. He also enjoys sexual relations with Hooters employees. More heat from “Less Is More”:
Appealin
Zero Tolerance (ft. Nipsey Hussle & Mozzy)
Did That (ft. Icewear Vezzo)
One Piece (ft. Wale)
Maroon 5 ft. Nipsey Hussle & YG- Memories (Remix): Love that Nipsey’s on this remix. Him and YG give us 8 flawless bars each. This reminds me of Wiz & Charlie Puth’s “See You Again”. This one you wanna play when it’s time to reminisce. Long Live Nipsey! RIP Kobe and everyone we’ve lost too soon over the past few years.
