The Hit List week 70: (August 22 - August 28)
DJ Khaled ft. Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, JAY-Z & John Legend - GOD DID: “God Did”: DJ Khaled dropped his new project “GOD DID” this week. Star-studded as expected and featuring many recognizable samples, the project has something for everyone, is radio ready and contains one of the year's best verses with JAY-Z’s feature on the title track “GOD DID”. I don’t want to diminish Weezy and Ross verses on this track but that Hov verse is special. His longtime engineer Young Guru has explained some of the double entendres and references (which only makes the verse doper). Go check out “GOD DID” if you haven’t already and don’t skip these highlights:
USE THIS GOSPEL (REMIX) [ft. Kanye West & Eminem]
STAYING ALIVE (ft. Drake & Lil Baby)
BEAUTIFUL (ft. Future & SZA)
BILLS PAID (ft. Latto & City Girls)
Juice WRLD DID (ft. Juice WRLD)
Soulja Boy - Life is Amazing: Soulja came through with a soulful lil bop for our headtops. Wavy beat, Soulja uses a melodic flow to describe the myriad ways his life is amazing. He’s been stacking millions and making history. His life is amazing.
JID & EARTHGANG - Can’t Punk Me: Dreamville’s JID dropped his new project “The Forever Story” this week. Instant candidate for AOTY. Dope beats, dope bars. A work of art top to bottom. One of my favorite tracks is the collab with fellow Dreamvillers EARTHGANG entitled “Can’t Punk Me”. Beat crazy, major slam poetry vibes. They were po’ before they were poets. The haters can’t pump them (even if they pull out the pump). Where they from, everybody keeps a tool and they recommend not posting your wins (because you’ll have to keep repeating them). It’s kill or be killed and they know it. Check out “The Forever Story” and these standouts:
Dance Now (with Kenny Mason)
Crack Sandwich
Surround Sound (ft. 21 Savage & Baby Tate)
Kody Blu 31
Bruddadem (ft. Lil Durk)
Can’t Make You Change (with Ari Lennox)
Just In Time (with Kenny Mason ft. Lil Wayne)
Better Days (ft. Johnta Austin)
03 Greedo ft. KenTheMan - Drop Down: Despite being locked in a Texas penitentiary, 03 Greedo dropped a new track this week with up and comer KenTheMan. It’s a twerk anthem. Drop down, pick it up, and twerk something. Beat is hypnotic and should be played in jiggle joints all over the world. Free 03!
ShooterGang Kony ft. LaRussell - Jesus’ Peace: One of my favorite artists ShooterGang Kony dropped a new project this week called “Playing With Fire”. The album is dope and he spends some time addressing the opps on multiple tracks. My favorite track is “Jesus’ Peace” with LaRussell. Piano Keys and a chipmunked vocal sample set the tone. Downtempo, SGK gets introspective and talks about the Love & Hate inside the game and how people only reach out for those extremes. He’s a realist, so he keeps the heat tucked ‘cause he knows the streets get cold. He still prays for Jesus’ Peace. LaRussell knows beef comes with the territory. The love turns to hate and sometimes he feels guilty for his success. He implores all those that benefit from his shine to chip in even a lil bit. Give “Playing With Fire” a spin and check out these highlights:
Fear Me
Bounce Out
New Orleans (ft. Nef The Pharaoh)
Miss My Dawgz
Situations (ft. 22nd Jim)
Expensive (ft. ShooterGang VJ)
Berner - Elon: California cannabis king and rapper Berner dropped a loosie this week expressing his desire to take weed seeds to Mars. To do that, he’s asking for the assistance of Tesla & SpaceX CEO Elon Musk who has aspirations of colonizing Mars in the future. Tough Tune.
Roc Marciano & Alchemist ft. Action Bronson - Daddy Kane: Roc Marc & Alchemist dropped a collab album this week called “The Elephant Man’s Bones”. Excellent album! With Al and Roc, you can imagine the overall sound and feel. My favorite track is “Daddy Kane” with Action Bronson. Funky boom bap beat. Roc lets us know you can’t be a leader until you take a loss. And he’s picky with the women, he not just slangin meat all willy nilly. Bronson is pushing the Lex, blasting out the window with his left hand. He then dines with a bittie and introduces her to some rare cuisine she wouldn’t find at their local diner, then he dances off the scene like Breezy. He rocks Timbs not Doc Martens. Other highlights from “The Elephant Man’s Bones”:
Think Big
JJ Flash
Rubber Hand Grip
Bubble Bath
Lil Tjay - Beat The Odds: After a harrowing incident in NJ where he was shot, rushed to the hospital in critical condition, was unable to speak or move for days, and had people prematurely pronouncing him dead, Lil Tjay has returned to let people know that he’s officially back. On this triumphant return track “Beat The Odds”, Tjay explains why he keeps so many guns around and that he would be gone if he wasn’t quick to pick up the blick (he busted back at the opps and it probably saved his life). He doesn’t wanna lose his life or the millions he’s made in music. He also shows us his bullet wounds in the music video. Tough Tune.
Lil Bean & 24KGoldn - What’s Luv: The Bay’s Lil Bean dropped “Waited My Turn '', a new album, this week. The new Project is super dope and LB been bubblin for a minute. I got his tracks “4am” and “when it fall down” still in rotation. One of my favorite tracks from the new project is “What’s Luv” with fellow Cali MC 24KGoldn. Beat super crazy, snap beat with strings that give it a Latin twist. The guys talk about relationships. LB and his shawty be fussin and fighting but every time he’s deep inside it feels like heaven. When the money calls he gotta bounce though. Goldn is a night owl and his bae is the type that makes you say OMG. She so bad, it makes him feel bad about doing her wrong. He feels she is too sensitive and she turnt up since 24 got his money up. Check out “Waited My Turn” and these standouts:
Judas
Big Rings
Real Nigga Drought
Outside (with Pendrick)
Offset ft. Moneybagg Yo - The Code: So that Migos beef ain’t fake I guess. After suing his former label for rights to his solo career (and removing “QC” from the credits of his most recent drops), Offset is back at it with another loosie, this time with the help of Moneybagg Yo and the beautiful Bella Hadid in the music video. Uptempo beat, Offset describes all the wealth he’s acquired including Cullinans, white ceramic APs and real estate. Niggas wish they was him. Moneybagg does everything B-I-G. He’s a rich nigga with broke habits and his girl suggests he slows down with the Wockesha. He’s petty and might drop his album on the same day as his opp. He also gets exclusive kicks weeks before the public.
Rapper Big Pooh ft. Jared Evan - God’s Grace: Big Pooh (of Little Brother) dropped a solo project this week called “To Dream In Color”. Great album, it’s that real Hip-Hop. He talks about his come up and some things that transpired with the group. I really like “God’s Grace” with Jared Evan. Pooh talks about growing up infatuated with Rap while the other kids were playing with toys. He played the trumpet and even got a job just to afford the things he really wanted. He couldn’t see the big picture at first but he eventually found his way like Jared Evan sings on the hook. Go give “To Dream In Color” a listen and check out these highlights:
Dreaming In Color (ft. J. Smash of The Nukez)
Thoughts & Prayers (Interlude)
1 Day in NY
LS400
In Surround Sound (ft. Tre’mar)
SAINt JHN - u laughed at me: SJ dropped a new acoustic chune about getting clowned when he was younger. He would pour his heart out to his shorty, tell her about his dreams and aspirations (and the Porsche he wanted to buy) and she laughed at him. He just wants her to talk to him with her eyes and hold him with her smile. He wants her to see the vision, him performing on the biggest stages like the Superbowl but instead she sends the wolves and the goons after him once he’s blown up and moved on because she’s heartbroken.
Dro Kenji - ARCADE: So this artist Dro Kenji and his new album “ANYWHERE BUT HERE” kept popping up everywhere. It was on Apple Music, the iTunes store, other websites I frequent, so I had to give it a spin. Loved the album. All those who love Melodic Hip-Hop will truly enjoy this one. My favorite track is “ARCADE”. He’s a Rockstar and his shawty is a Pornstar who brought some Pop Stars with her. He knows she wants to play him like an Arcade. She wants to party all the time and blames DK for his own torn heart. It makes it hard for him to trust anyone. Other standouts from “ANYWHERE BUT HERE”:
OH WOW
SO WHAT (with DC The Don)
FEELS LIKE A DREAM
CIGAR
DROWN
IDK - Drive: IDK dropped a 2-pack of Gas with “Drive” and “Free Slime”. I immediately identified with Drive’s chill vibes. It’s dedicated to his main thang. He’d rather have no life than be without her. He feels good in her presence and blessed to have her.
Sauce Walka ft. 44 Mike Deezy & Voochie P - Sauce Beach Florida: Houston’s Sauce Walka dropped a dope new project called “Sauce Beach Florida”. It samples a lot of classic hip hop tracks and because of the familiarity it has high replayability. It was hard to pick a favorite, but I went with the title track. It samples the Shawty Lo classic “Dey Know”. The guys talk about the big booty bitties they got, sippin Wock & Lemonade, chillin at the Fontainebleau, pushin Lambos and Maybachs, bein handy with the toolie, havin the work for the L-O, and wildin on some jet skis. Check out “Sauce Beach Florida” and these highlights:
Smile
Sauce Body
I Sip Lines
Sauce Beach Freestyle (ft. Sauce WoodWinnin, Sauce Gohan & Sam 1kayy)
Normal
I Refuse
Spray 2 Live
Ricky Rich & A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie - Habibi: I love finding tracks on the Apple Music new music playlist and this was one of them. Upon further inspection it looks like this song was a viral hit a year ago and this new release adds A Boogie for some melodic verses. Beat crazy and A Boogie’s sauce gives it a fresh feel. Ricky’s verse is A1 as well.
Meechy Darko ft. Freddie Gibbs & A-Trak - ON GOD: The Flatbush Zombie released a solo album this week called “Gothic Luxury”. Dope album, grimy and gritty, just like he does when the gang is together. I really like “ON GOD” with Gangsta Gibbs & A-Trak. Meechy died twice and rose again (ON GOD). He’s got ganja by the pound and in his city he moves like Nino Brown. His pops gave him great advice and preached ownership. He told him he was the chosen one, a leader and advised him to always keep going. Freddie ran some plays to survive. Crime paid and now he’s getting it off rap. If he wasn’t rapping, he’d still be trapping. Other highlights from “Gothic Luxury”:
Get Lit or Die Tryin
PRADA U
Hennessy Halos
Lost Souls ft. (Denzel Curry & Busta Rhymes)
88Glam ft. Rich The Kid - Lay It Flat: Canadian duo 88Glam dropped a new album this week called “Close To Heaven Far From God”. It’s a great project and the guys have come a long way from their viral hit “Lil Boat” and their rumored breakup (that lasted for like a day). My favorite track from CTHFFG is this Rich The Kid Collab. Wavy beat, the guys hit it once then give it back (and Lay It Flat). They run up the check and spazz out. They don’t need to talk, they pull the bands out. Rich copped the Lamborghini and rides around with a Cuban bittie. He got a new Patek, and like 88Glam, he also hits it once and gives it back. Check out “Close To Heaven Far From God” and these tracks:
Ziploc
Birdz (ft. Quando Rondo)
Big Body
1-800
Far From God (with WondaGurl)

Lil Tecca - Treesha
