The Hit List Week 75: (September 26 - October 2)
Tory Lanez - Sex Songs: Toronto’s own T. Lanez aka Archie Fargo dropped a new project this week called “Sorry 4 What” (which may allude to something…). Project is dope, a lot of rapping Tory but also some melodic tracks. One of my favorites is one of the melodic tracks “Sex Songs” which as the title suggests is perfect for your late night playlist. Check out “Sorry 4 What” and these standouts:
Sorry 4 What?//LV BELT
Bad Bitches Wrk & Taboo
Not Tricking//Black Keys
Anymore//Fuck Boy Intentions
Understand
Casa-Freak-Hoes
Rare L
Collection (ft. Yoko Gold)
Tee Grizzley - Ms Evans 1: Tee Grizzley is going all in on being Hip-Hop’s new great storyteller. After the 4-Part Robbery Series and Jay & Twan 1 he’s back with “Ms Evans 1”. What is about, you ask? A bad bittie who happens to be a high school teacher who gets hit on by one of her students. At the beginning of the song she’s dismissive of his advances but by the end of the track she seems more welcoming. Does she eventually hook up with the student? You’ll have to wait for Ms Evans 2 to find out!
Freddie Gibbs ft. Offset - Pain & Strife: Gary, Indiana’s own Gangsta Gibbs dropped a new album this week called “$oul $old $eparately” and it’s easily an AOTY candidate. Bars are top tier, beats are A1 and the features are Titans of Hip-Hop. He discusses everything from selling crack to Michael Jackson’s uncles (MJ and the Jackson’s are also from Gary) to even showing love to Jeezy (who he had a falling out with after Jeezy was a champion of his earlier in his career.) My favorite track is probably “Pain & Strife” because I’m a sucker for a sample and this track samples Bone Thugs & Eazy E’s “Foe Tha Love of $”. Gibbs uses a quick flow and talks about his come up and how far he’s come. Offset does the same and flexes the fact that he bought his self out his record deal. You gotta go listen to “$oul $old $eparately” and don’t miss these highlights:
Couldn’t Be Done (ft. Kelly Price)
Too Much (ft. Moneybagg Yo)
Feel No Pain (ft. Anderson .Paak & Raekwon)
PYS (ft. DJ Paul)
Dark Hearted
Gold Rings (ft. Pusha T)
Cootie ft. NBA Youngboy - 2 Tone: Arkansas rapper Cootie dropped a new track this week with proud father of 10, NBA Youngboy. Trap beat laced with keys, Cootie talks about his 2 Tone watch (it’s an Audemars Piguet aka an AP). He likes big booty bitties and smoking the blunts. Youngboy likes to get top and buys 2 Tone Patek Philippes for his favorite ladies and rocks a 2 Tone AP for himself.
YG & Nas - No Weapon: YG dropped a new project this week called “I Got Issues”. Awesome album with major West Coast Vibes. One of my favorites is the Nas collab “No Weapon”. The theme: No Weapon formed against me shall prosper (like the bible verse and the Fred Hammond song). YG asks the Lord to protect him from evil and people who would do wrong to him. He vows to stick around for his daughters. Jazzy horns sauce up the beat. Nas knows you have to beat the best to be the best. He talks about getting Covid and recovering. He lets the opps know they can’t compete with God’s Son and it’d be in everyone’s best interest if they tried to work together. Other standouts from “I Got Issues”:
Toxic
Maniac
I Dance (with Duki ft. Cuco)
Scared Money (ft. J. Cole & Moneybagg Yo)
Go Dumb (ft. H.E.R.)
No Love
Alone
Talib Kweli - Longevity: Hip-Hop! Hip-Hop! One of the best to ever do it dropped a loosie this week (produced by Madlib). He’s had an interesting last year as he was dissed by one of his previous collaborators (Ye). On the track he describes how to have Longevity in the game. He proudly proclaims to be a Conscious Rapper and frowns upon anyone who talks down on that wave. He says the one-hit wonders will keep wondering how they can stick around as long as some of the guys they talk down on.
Kid Cudi & Ty Dolla $ign - Can’t Shake Her: Cudders dropped a new album called “Entergalactic” this week. He’s another artist who’s had an interesting year after getting into a public (and maybe irreparable spat with his once friend (Ye)). Then stormed off stage after he was hit with multiple projectiles at Rolling Loud in Miami (I believe), to having a fallout with producer (and frequent Ye collaborator) Mike Dean, to this very album being leaked with fart noises all over it. In spite of that, Cudi pushed through and dropped this gem. My favorite track is “My Drug”, but I also really like both Ty Dolla collabs. If you’re a Cudi fan you’ll love “Entergalactic”. Give it a spin and check out these standout tracks:
New Mode
Willing To Trust (with Ty Dolla $ign)
Livin’ My Truth
My Drug
Burrow (with Don Toliver, Steve Aoki & Dot Da Genius)
Quavo & Takeoff - Nothing Changed: Quay & Tay dropped a new loosie this week as it seems they’re gearing up to drop a project. This one is a downtempo bop. Quay talks about running up the money, traveling armed and pushing Rolls Royces. He doesn’t need a money counter because he prefers to count the money by hand. Takeoff warns that once you get the bread some of your loved ones will switch up on you. He also warns the opps that if they move goofy, they might get wet up.
Hardo - Fake Drilla: So my favorite project of the week is Hardo’s “Top 10 Trappers DOA”. From the street bangers like “Fake Drilla” to the melodic tracks for the ladies like “Frown” I’ve had this album on repeat since it dropped. “Fake Drilla” is one of my favorite tracks. The organ keys really sauce it up and the way the drums have a delayed entrance. Hardo speaks out on the cats that act like they bout it bout it, but they really not. I highly recommend ““Top 10 Trappers DOA” and especially these highlights:
Get Em
Trapn Off the iPhone (ft. Doe Boy)
Frown
Out The Bagger (ft. 1700Hec & Goppy)
Biased (ft. ASCO)
Neek Bucks & 2 Chainz - Mask Up: NY’s Neek Bucks dropped a new track with 2Chainz this week. On “Mask Up’ they encourage everyone to wear masks to prevent the spread of Coronavirus and other diseases. JK, It’s about robbing niggas (in and out of town) with your Mask Up (of course). No face, no case. Interestingly enough this is the video Ray J was filming when he went viral recently for dropping business gems (I believe that’s what was happening). 2 Chainz will shoot you like a vaccine. He likes horseradish and his pockets are fatter than Fat Albert. He’s doing good even when he’s doing bad.
Prodigy ft. Big Daddy Kane & DJ Scratch - You Don’t Want It: The estate of late Mobb Deep rapper dropped a new album this week called “The Hegelian Dialect 2: The Book of Heroine” I believe this is his 2nd posthumous album. All the Hip-Hop Heads/Boom-Bap lovers will really dig this one. My favorite track is this collab with BDK & DJ Scratch. Boom bap beat, Prodigy encourages us to get our own. Sex, drugs and money but work comes first. One surreal line is him proclaiming to be the best rapper “alive” (when he was here he was for sure in the conversation). Kane is tryna live his life in peace and harmony. He calls the opps Shooked Ones (dope nod to the God) and laughs them off as comedy. Check out “The Hegelian Dialect 2: The Book of Heroine” and these standouts:
You Will See (ft. Berto Rich)
Walk Out (ft. DJ Premier)
We Shine (ft. Berto Rich)
Dope
Flirting With Death (ft. Chinky & Big Noyd)
Smino & J. Cole - 90 Proof: Smino dropped a new loosie this week with Cole World. The track is laid back & soulful as Smino uses his unique voice to sing to his bae. He just wants to kick back and get high with shawty. Make some music, make some money and settle down. J. Cole has a real one who is with him for richer or poorer. He’s purchased property but has nosy neighbors. He’s a GOAT and knows it. He also doesn’t be where everyone else is. He’s in the cut so don’t try to land in his orbit (‘cause you probably won’t make it there).
DDG ft. Polo G & NLE Choppa - 9 Lives: DDG dropped a new project this week called “It’s Not Me It’s You” and it’s actually super dope. I wasn’t familiar with mans until a few years ago when my sister was like “You remind me of DDG”. I did my Googles and watched some of his YouTube vids and was thoroughly entertained. I think he’s always made music too, but he’s really taken off in the last year with these big features (as you can see in the highlights below.) 9 Lives is one of the dopest on the album and the Polo G & NLE features only add extra sauce. I think you should give “It’s Not Me It’s You” a shot and be sure to check out these highlights:
Elon Musk (ft. Gunna)
Not The Only One
Love Myself (ft. Kevin Gates)
Storyteller
The Clinic (ft. Babyface Ray)
Fredo Bang - Free Thug: Fredo Bang dropped a 3 pack EP called “Free Thug” this week. The title track has major marching band vibes with the horns that really spice it up. Fredo talks about the haters, luxury vehicles, getting hella guap, knocking down baddies and of course he calls for the authorities to Free Young Thug.
YXNG K.A. - Face My Fears: Another dope find from the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. According to Google, YXNG K.A. is an Interscope signee from Philly. On this new track “Face My Fears” KA describes the grind and the pain he’s endured getting it out the mud. He’s taken some losses but he got back on his feet though. He’s been on the road to riches and he knows he’ll get there soon. And with more tracks like this he most definitely will.
Joe Moses - Quit Calling Me: LA’s Joe Moses dropped a new project this week called “From Nothing 2 Something 4”. Loved the project, it’s got something for everybody on there. My favorite part is in the middle where he lined up a bunch of tracks about the ladies. “Quit Calling Me” is among that bunch and happens to be my favorite on the album. Other standouts on “From Nothing 2 Something 4”:
Facts
Pop My Shit
Last Time I Heard
Freak It (ft. Jeremih)
Overtime ft. (OTP.C4)
Dick Pleaser
Wop
It’s All Good (ft. DOM KENNEDY)
Hd4president ft. DJ Chose - Big Booty: Ain’t nothing like a strip club anthem to get the ass shaking in jiggle joints all over the world. This is one of them ones. Hd4presidnet is a Motown signee from LA (Louisiana not Los Angeles) and he caught one with DJ Chose (ain’t that DJ Chose?). Chose even drops some bars. You can be sure to hear this at a gentlemen's club near you, so get out there and throw some ones when this one comes on.
D Smoke & Davion Farris - Switch Up: D Smoke might be gearing up to drop a new project soon. After dropping “El Rey” a couple weeks ago, he’s back with the anthem “Switch Up” where he vows to never change on the gang and he promises to grow continually. The smooth sounds of Davion Harris carry the hook.
Drakeo the Ruler ft. Ralfy the Plug - Stop Me: RIP the Ruler. Drakeo tragically lost his life earlier this year when he was stabbed at a concert. He previously beat 2 murder cases and dropped hella music while he was locked up and as soon as he got it out. His estate released a posthumous project this week called “Keep The Truth Alive”. All DTR fans will love this offering. I’m a big fan of his brother Ralfy the Plug aka Pastor Ralfy so it was no surprise that one of my favorite tracks is “Stop Me”. It’s a downtempo flu flamming anthem. If you know you know! Check out “Keep The Truth Alive” and these highlights:
Extortion
Hang With The Opps
DRAKEO Not Drake-O
Get Yo Boogie On
80 Thousand
BLEU & French Montana - Life Worth Living: Formerly “Yung” BLEU might be dropping an album soon as he’s been spinning the block with track after track the last few weeks. This week, it’s a French Montana collab called “Life Worth Living” and the main thread is that the bad bitties make Life Worth Living (amen to that). Big Booties and Billions, that’s what they guys pray for then work for each and every day.
BIG30 - Dead Guyz: Memphis’ BIG30 aka Big Brrrr dropped his official debut album “Last Man Standing”. 21 tracks of Down South bangers, perfect to play in the whip at high volumes and definitely in the club. One of my favorites is the opp anthem “Dead Guyz”. BIG30 is an expert marksman and only shoots his opps with headshots. He’ll spin the block on the rare occasion that he misses. He never hits the club because he’s out hunting his haters. He’s an exterminator and can’t stand rats. Check out “Last Man Standing” and these highlights:
Stand On Business
No Love
Can’t Relate
Scared of Us (ft. Hotboii)
Rick Owens
Up Next (ft. Lil Jairmy)
Crying (ft. Pooh Sheisty)
Enphamus - DND: Another Great find on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop Playlist. Beat knocking, as Enphamus lets his chicks know he can’t smash tonight because his meat is on DND. He told shawty to hang up, because he’s kicking it with his other chick. He’s a big fan of the doggystyle, sticking his thumb in the anus (her not his) and also fucking raw. He likes it super wet and asks his ladies to sleep on the floor when they’re finished (because that’s the only way he can get some REM sleep).
Kenny Mason ft. Young Nudy - SPIN N FLIP: ATL’s Kenny Mason dropped “RUFFS” this week and I believe it is his debut album. Major Rock & Emo Rap vibes throughout the project. An instant HIT is the Young Nudy collab “SPIN N FLIP”. It could be in reference to skateboarding but it probably means Spinning the block and Flipping that work. Both guys carry the heat around with them and aren’t afraid to let it fly. They both are a HIT with the ladies too. (OK I’ll stop… Kenny busted onto the scene with “HIT!” If ya dunno…) Other standouts from “RUFFS”:
HALOS
MINUTE FOREVER
DOUBLE UP
NOSEDIVE (ft. Jean Dawson)
GIVENCHY
Bril & 2Rare - Pop Shit: Yet another gem found on Apple Music’s New Hip-Hop playlist. I don’t know too much about Bril & 2Rare (although the single cover art is fire) but as a nigga who grew up in Jersey listening to Jersey Club this track is my shittttttttttttt!!!!! Beat hopping and the guys have the vocal chops and the flow to absolutely demolish it. Then they had the genius idea of letting the beat run at the end of the track. Every party I ever have in the history of earth from now til the end of time will feature this track at least once, probably multiple times.
Albee Al - CT: Speaking of NJ, Jersey’s own Albee Al dropped a new album this week called “FREE THE REAL”. He got a nice look when he got a chance to do a Funk Flex Freestyle this week where he talked about being locked up (and how he hated the food and missed his kids). You can hear the raw emotion in his delivery throughout the project. One of my favorite tracks is “CT” which has a very Drake-esque beat with Albee promising to uphold the memories of his dead homies and to always hold his kids down. Random bitties send him titty pics, but they don’t move the needle for him. He believes in Death before Dishonor and if any of his homies switch up on him, he handles it expeditiously. Check out “FREE THE REAL” and these highlights:
KING OF NEW JERSEY
AND THATS FACTS
THOTTIE
CASH RULES (with Mozzy)
SHE FUCK WITH A GANGSTA (with Rowdy Rebel)
RUNNING MAN
MENACE TO SOCIETY
Roddy Ricch - Stop Breathing: Double R back at it. He had a rough go after his sophomore project but he bounced back nicely, featuring on tracks and touring with his ace boon (coon?) Post Malone (they even did SNL together). He dropped off a loosie this week. He doesn't want you to Stop Breathing, but people do gasp when they see the luxury lifestyle Roddy’s been living. Private Jets, yachts, thots, Louis V, Chanel, Goyard, all types of diamonds and of course exotic whips.
Baby Tate - Mani: Formerly “Yung” Baby Tate dropped a new project this week called “Mani/Pedi”. Very solid project, lots of radio ready bops. One of my favorite tracks “Mani” has BT asking her boo to put his hands on her (hence the title). She wants his hands to go to work, and all she asks is that he makes sure his nails are clean and trim. She’s a manual not an automatic (so he gotta grab it). Great for that late night playlist. Other standouts from “Mani/Pedi”:
Perfect
Ain’t No Love (ft. 2 Chainz)
Slut Him Out Again (ft. Kali)
What’s Love
Pedi
dvsn ft. Jagged Edge - What’s Up: After their polarizing track “If I Get Caught” the Canadian Duo is back with a more traditional R&B track with legendary R&B group Jagged Edge in tow. It’s a spiritual sequel to the last track and it finds Daniel (the singer of the two if ya dunno) regretting letting his bae go. Now he’s lonely and wants to text his ex. He wants to see What’s Up with her, what’s going on, what’s up with her, and where did they go wrong. Mans looking for closure and he’s a lil peeved she’s messing with a new dude while he’s kicking it with a rando. JE lays the background vocals and carries the outro.
Nicholas Craven & Boldy James - Straight & Tall: Producer Nicholas Craven and Detroit’s own Boldy James dropped a collab project this week called “Fair Exchange No Robbery” and it could be my favorite Boldy project yet. Craven’s silky beats are a contrast to the gritty Boom Bap we usually hear BJ on (although we get some of those tracks too). It’s hard to pick a favorite but “Straight & Tall” is one of them. Soul sample with a jazzy minimalist beat as Boldy describes moving work, calls for his homies to be freed, and lets us know that all his soldiers (and him) are upstanding cats, they came up Straight & Tall. Check out “Fair Exchange No Robbery” and don’t miss these standouts:
Stuck In Traffic
Scrabble
Town & Country
Designer Drugs
NBA Youngboy & D ROK - Military: I admire YB’s Russ-esque output. It seems like he’s dropping a new song every week (and most weeks like 2 of em). This week, he collabs with D ROK on “Military”. The guys roll with big poles like the military so you better hope they don’t catch you lacking.
Rome Streetz ft. Conway - Soulja Boy: Griselda signee Rome Streetz dropped ”KISS THE RING” this week, his first album with the label. Super dope, all the Griselda-heads will absolutely love it. It was hard to pick a favorite from this one too, but the Conway collab “Soulja Boy” is one of them ones. Rome knows life’s a gamble and hated prison so when he got out he took some chances, made some solid moves, and turned a pot of piss into a pot of gold. And if you come for his pot of gold, he got a 4 pound waiting for you. Conway only deals with grown man business and is grossing seven figures. His work is untainted (no fentanyl). El puro. He likes sipping Clase Azul mixed with Sprite while getting double toppy. And if you think you’ll catch him lackin, he’s got an FN he’d like you to meet. Other standouts from ”KISS THE RING”:
Heart On Froze
Tyson Beckford
Blow 4 Blow (ft. Stove God Cooks)
1000 Ecstasy
Armed & Dangerous (ft. Armani Caesar)
Non Factor (ft. Westside Gunn)
Fashion Rebel
