The Hit List #81: (November 7 - November 13)
Nas - Legit: Nas & Hit-Boy dropped their 4th collab project this week with “King’s Disease 3”. It’s destined to be the main contender with Kendrick’s “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers for Album of the Year” (Editors Note: It’s actually eligible for next year’s Grammy’s so ya boy was wrong. My bizzle). First off, there are no skips, it’s top tier rhyming start to finish. It’s honest, deep, filled with wisdom from an OG in the game. It’s a crazy dope project. Also love that late in his career Nas found a producer that he can lean on to make Magic (see what I did there). My favorite track on KD3 is “Legit” but they’re all top tier. Go give the album a listen if you haven’t already.
38 Spesh x Harry Fraud ft. Benny The Butcher & Ransom - Band of Brothers: 38 Spesh and Harry Fraud are gearing up to drop a project soon. They already released “Speshal” and now they’re back (with Benny & Ransom in tow) for this new loosie. Smooth beat (almost like R&Boom Bap). My favorite bar is 38 Spesh admitting to smashing butterfaces “A few bitches I fucked had ugly faces but amazing bodies” BARS! BARS! BARS! Benny talks that empire-building talk. He got on, then he put his people on. He built a Band with his Brothers like the Jackson 5. Ran talks about catching charges, getting out, and hitting the block. He’s a free man now but will not hesitate to erase an opp if they cross him. Tough Tune.
Yung Bleu - What Type of Games: “Yung” Bleu dropped a new project this week called “TANTRA”. Super dope project with features from Titans in Hip-Hop and R&B. I really liked the flip of DMX’s “How’s It Goin Down” Bleu’s version called “What Type of Games”. A lot of fans gave him shit for this one but he was paying homage to the God MC DMX while bearing his soul about the type of games his tings play with him sometimes. No harm no foul. Check out “TANTRA” and these highlights:
Don’t Forget Me
One Of Those Nights (with Fivio Foreign)
Love In The Way (with Nicki Minaj)
Life Worth Living (with French Montana)
Soul Child (ft. Lil Wayne)
No Good Decisions
Walk Through The Fire (ft. Ne-Yo)
Stormzy - Firebabe: Stormzy is set to drop a new album pretty soon. He’s dropped 2 dope tracks so far and he’s back with a 3rd. This one, like the last, is a love song. Downtempo with keys providing the backbone, Stormzy sings about seeing his shawty for the first time and her taking his breath away. It was love at first sight. She’s his miracle, his heart & soul. He’s forever hers. He can’t explain it, but she lights that flame in him. She’s his Firebabe.
FBG Goat ft. Future - Misled: Pardon my ignorance but I thought FBG was some Chicago set but listening to this album there were so many Atlanta ties including Thugger, two Future features and Unfook that at this very moment I just realized the FBG in FBG Goat stands for FreeBand Gang (shoutout to Guap Tarantino). Well FBG Goat dropped a new album this week called “Pendleton” and it’s one of my favorite drops of the week. That Tory record is crazy. I also loved the track he opened the album with “Misled” featuring Future. “Struggle Winners” with Unfoonk is another one I’ve had on repeat. You gotta check out “Pendleton” and these standouts:
Jefferey’s Innocent (ft. EST Gee)
Big (with Tory Lanez)
Barbados
Orange Mound Poetry (ft. Jaimeo Da Don)
Struggle Winners (ft. Unfoonk)
Private Phones (ft. Young Thug)
Fivio Foreign & Rvssian - 1 on 3: Shout out to Fivi. I remember when I first heard of him NY Drill was taking center stage in Hip-Hop and Pop Smoke was at the helm. When Pop passed, Fivio picked up the torch, and he’s been the face of new New York for a while now. Some classic collabs with Ye, his own project, and now he’s dabbling in dance music. He linked with producer Rvssian for this club banger. It’s got NY Drill elements but that horn really makes this go up. And of course Fivi is talking that shit. He lets the opps know they can shoot the fair one or they can bring 2 of they homies and they can do it 1 on 3. He lets em know that tough shit aint gon fly cuz they not really like that.
DRAM - Vibe of the Year: DRAM (formerly Shelley and before that D.R.A.M.) dropped a new project this week called “What Had Happened Was..”. He recently went viral for responding to Drake’s “Her Loss” sub, but that shouldn’t distract from this excellent project he created. He really found a lane with this smooth R&B singing shit. I’ve really enjoyed this project and his last one “Shelley FKA DRAM”. One of my favorite tracks on the new joint is “Vibe of the Year”. The beat is crazy and DRAM sings about looking into shawty’s eyes and diving in between her thighs. The congas give it that poetry jam feel. Truly unique track. Check out “What Had Happened Was…” and these highlights:
Ride Or Die
Let Me See your Phone
Angry
Big Baby DRAM
WWYD? Part 2
Cam The Artisan - Circles: New artist alert (to me at least). Can’t remember how I came across this track but as soon as I heard it, I knew it was special. Cam is in a relationship that’s going in Circles. They’re doing great, then they grow distant. Rinse and repeat. It’s got him dizzy and he’s feeling like it’s time to throw in the towel.
WizKid ft. Skillibeng & Shenseea - Slip N Slide: African megastar Wizkid dropped a new album this week called “More Love, Less Ego” and immediately set the internet ablaze. The whole project is dope top to bottom. A1 features and Afrobeats throughout. My favorite track is the collab with dancehall artists Skillibeng & Shenseea. It was dope to hear them do their thing on an Afrobeats track. Other standouts from: “More Love, Less Ego”:
Balance
Bad To Me
2 Sugar (ft. Ayra Starr)
Wow (ft. Skepta & Naira Marley)
Pressure
Special (ft. Don Toliver)
Lil Tjay - Give You What You Want: Shoutout to Tjay. When I think about him I think of the quote “News of my demise has been greatly exaggerated” I forgot who they said that about, I think Teddy Roosevelt. Or Pac’s “I heard rumors that I died…” After an unfortunate incident where Tjay was shot and in a coma, he recovered and is back to dropping dope tracks. His first one was about his road to recovery, and on this one, he’s back to spitting that game to the fairer sex. He just wants to give his bae what she wants. Designer bags, good D, whatever she desires, he wants to provide.
Black Eyed Peas, Anuel AA & Marshall Jefferson - MUEVELO: Black Eyed Peas dropped a new album this week called “ELEVATION” and it’s major Latin vibes. I really liked “MUEVELO” which translates to Move Your Body (I think). I don’t know what Anuel be saying, but he’s one of my favorite Latin artists. And the track samples that one song… You’ll know it when you hear it.
Cochise - Creme Brulee: Cochise is on a hot streak. After dropping a project earlier this year he’s back with a loosie about dessert and $80 dollar steak. His opps are broke and there’s no way they can relate to the lavish life he’s living. He keeps God first and that’s one of the reasons he’s up now.
SleazyWorld Go - Vanish Mode: SleazyWorld Go went viral for his track “Sleazy Flow” about a year ago and now he dropped his debut album this week, “Where The Shooters Be”. Dope project (they only go on the Hit List if they dope). My favorite album cut is “Vanish Mode”. It has some ominous strings and keys. SWG has all the gats and he promised his momma he never gon get caught lacking. And every time he spends quality time with a young lady, he doesn’t just want some box, he also wants some top. He only reaches out to his bitties in Vanish Mode so if they screenshot their messages he will know. Check out “Where The Shooters Be” and these highlights:
Troll Me
Sleazy Flow (Remix) [ft. Lil Baby]
I’m Still
Step 1 (with Offset)
Wrecked (ft. Rich The Kid)
Public Housing
Pacman Da Gunman ft. GI Joe OMG - Bag On Em: The Marathon Continues! All Money In’s Pacman Da Gunman dropped a new loosie this week with GI Joe OMG. It’s dope. It sounds like an early 90’s R&B track. PDG contemplates “What happened to niggas”. They used to be built Ford Tough, now they softer than baby shit. He’s a boss, he’s a GOAT and he don’t got time for the fuckery. GJO is down to fight fire with fire. He’s about getting that bag (now the Rap way, formerly the Ski Mask Way). He’s repping 60th street and warns clowns about comin round.
GASHI - No Drugs in Dubai: NY’s GASHI dropped a new project this week called “ELEVATORS”. Some great love songs throughout and a nice mix of sounds. My favorite track is “No Drugs in Dubai” where GASHI raps about being lit in the club. It’s a club track and even though it’s called “No Drugs in Dubai” I can guarantee this track is playing somewhere in Dubai right now whilst someone is ingesting drugs “GUARANTEE IT!” (Charles Barkley Voice). Other standouts from “ELEVATORS”:
Brief Intermission
Die Baby, Cry Baby
Rauw Alejandro - VERDE MENTA: Puerto Rican superstar Rauww Alejandro dropped a new project this week called “SATURNO” and this is another one I heard about through the internet (because as soon it dropped it was all the bitties was chattin about it on my timeline). I’ve had “VERDE MENTA” on repeat since I listened to the album. Like much of the album it has an 80’s electro-synth feel. It reminds me of Tory’s “Alone At Prom” but in Spanish. Even if you don’t understand the lyrics (I don’t) it’s still a super duper vibe!
Other Tracks/Projects That Dropped This Week
French Montana - Yes I Do
E-40 ft. Cousin Fik - In The Air Where It’s Fair
Glorilla - Anyways, Life’s Great… (Album)
Run The Jewels - RTJ Cuatro (Album)
