Chance The Rapper ft. King Promise - YAH know: The Chicago Kid dropped a new loosie this week and it’s got a clubby, semi-EDM feel. Over the upbeat, soul vocal loop Chance goes in for 5 minutes spitting facts. Then the last section is the beat with its own solo and I been jamming to this shit. No hyperbole, easily one of my favorite listens of the year with a high level of replayability. Excited for this evolution of CTR as he’s dropped some dope music recently.
38 Spesh x Harry Fraud - Warm Winter: 38 Spesh and Harry Fraud dropped their collab project “BEYOND BELIEF” this week. Dope project, my favorite track is “Warm Winter” which has a 70’s heroin sound (like when Cam said this than 1970’s He-ron flow), with the bass guitar loop, electric keys and minimal drums. Spesh flew his fam to Hawaii so they can have a Warm Winter (hence the title). He dodged prison, and coming up, it was hard for him having all that talent and having to wait for it to come to fruition. Go check out “BEYOND BELIEF”.
21 Lil Harold & G Herbo - Damn: Lil Harold might have a project dropping soon because he’s been dropping heat over the last couple months. He’s back agin with G Herbo in tow over an A1 beat (the soul vocal loop is a cheat code). Harold makes sure to pay homage to his main mans Larry (RIP). He also warns the opps that his blicky doesn’t shoot blanks and if they want smoke, he’s taking all requests. Herbo rolls with a dirty glock and he’s less about the talk and more about the action. He loves the sound of gunshots, rocking diamonds, and blowing $50,000 on himself and his loved ones.
Dave East - Ftwtd: Dave East dropped a Gangsta Grillz Tape this week with DJ Drama and producers Buda & Grandz called “Book of David”. Dope project (Drama’s on a helluva hot streak too). My favorite track is “FTWTD”. Dave pays his respects to his loved ones and also sends his praises to Allah. There’s money to get and he’s gonna go get it. Check out “The Book of David” and these highlights:
Chills (ft. Katt Rockell)
GODbody
Eyes Can See
Call the Promoters
Rich The Kid - Motion: Rich The Kid recently signed a new deal with RCA (according to the streets) and his first order of business was dropping off this buttery single. RTK has the Motion and because of that all the bitties wanna ride him. His wrist is frozen, his pockets are swollen, and he knows not to try to fix something if it ain’t broken.
Key Glock - Die Trying: Key Glock dropped a new EP this week called “PRE5L”. Every track slaps. My favorite is “Die Trying” where Glizzock goes in over the soul-sampled beat (maybe I’m biased…). He’s smoking an eighth to the face with a .45 on his waistline. He warns the opps that even though he’s faded his quick to up his tool when necessary. Check out “PRE5L” and thank me later.
Kid Ink ft. Wiz Khalifa - Big Burna: Batgang! Kid Ink is back with a new loosie with his fellow heavily tattooed brethren. The track is dedicated to one of their favorite ladies, Mary Jane. Both of these gentlemen are Big Burnas and they smoke all types of strains whether blunts, joints or bong rips. They walk in smelling like reefer and Wiz might have to change his name to Kha-chiefa (I’ll see myself out…)
MFnMelo - Rumors: After two singles in recent weeks, it seems Pivot Gang is gearing up to drop a project soon. That didn’t stop MFnMelo from working OT and drop a solo track of his own. The song is about all the things he was told and what he learned in the streets. Filled with gems and many life lessons. Melo encourages us to be ourselves since we’re already unique. Tough Tune.
Brockhampton - All That: First of all, I was expecting one Brockhampton album but much to my surprise, when I went on Apple Music, there were two: The Family and TM. Both super dope, I purchased “TM” as soon as I heard it, top to bottom it’s a work of art. “All That” from The Family is probably my favorite track from that one as it samples the “All That” theme song that Coolio helped create (and performed). “Take It Back” is another one of my favs from the family. “ANIMAL” and “LISTERINE” from “TM”are two of my favorite tracks of the week full stop. They’re that good. Go check out both “The Family” and TM” all the way through and pay it forward by letting your homie Ted know how great they are (we all got a homie named Ted).
Rod Wave - Break My Heart: Rod Wave dropped a new project this week called “Jupiter’s Diary: 7 Day Theory” and it’s Down South Fat Nigga Pain Music at its finest. 8 tracks of straight emo-Negro crack. He talks about giving up and being tired of trying. He has to watch his back because those closest to him have stabbed him in the back. He also don’t wanna be around no brokies. He finds solace in kicking it with his main bae. He’s finding it hard to separate the real from the fake and it breaks his heart. Other highlights from “Jupiter’s Diary: 7 Day Theory”:
Jupiter’s Diary
Just Sing
Don’t Need
Morray - Broken Vows: Now that Derez De’shon dropped last week and Rod Wave and Morray dropped this week, the Down South Fat Nigga Pain Music Triumvirate has completed their 2022 main quest and can relax for the holidays. All jokes aside Morray bared his soul on this loosie. He seeks answers to life’s questions and tries to learn from life’s lessons. He was in his bag as he talked about stressing and fucking up all his blessings. It’s Morray going full Morray over a DA Got That Dope beat.
Lul Bob - Gotta Keep Movin: South Carolina’s own Lul Bob dropped a new project this week called “Guttah Baby”. Dope project, my favorite track is “Gotta Keep Moving” where Bob talks about the homies he’s lost and all the ways he’s dedicated his journey to their memory while continuing to grind and keep moving forward. Check out “Guttah Baby” and these standouts:
Bros
On My Grind
Demon Child
Gucci Mane - Letter To Takeoff: Gucci has fully reinvented himself now that he’s an elder statesman of the ATL. He’s a mogul and a label boss capable of signing artists (and also dropping them the same day, do you Googles). He’s also still rapping at a high level and he dedicates this track to the fallen Migo, Takeoff, who tragically lost his life last month. He also mentions some other fallen artists including Dolph & PnB Rock and he talks about losing his mom and knowing how Metro Boomin must have felt when he lost his mom earlier this year.
Dougie B ft. Shawny Binladen - No Discussion: NY Driller Dougie B dropped a new project this week called “Nobody Bigger”. You know he screams Free Kay Flock throughout and the album features one of the other NY Drill kings B-Lovee. He even got Cordae on a feature. My favorite track is “No Discussion” with Shawny Binladen (these niggas getting outta hand with these names…) Beat is crazy, sounds like some mafia shit with the strings and of course the soulful vocal loop sauces it up. And you know Dougie talking about shooting niggas and spinning the block. One Glock Two Glock, Red Glock, Blue Glock it don’t matter, the opps better be on they toes because the boys coming.
Don Toliver - Do It Right: Jackboy Donny T is back (not the president, the music artist) and on this one he samples S.O.S. Band’s hit “Take Your Time, Do It Right” which was also sampled by Birdman & Toni Braxton and more recently 21 Lil Harold & Offset. Don’s vocal prowess makes this version sound the truest to the original and it’s one of my favorite tracks of the week. I got it on repeat ju heard!?
Apollo Brown & Philmore Greene - Keep Goin: Producer Appollo Brown & spitter Philmore Greene dropped a collab project this week called “Cost of Living”. I was confused as shit because Philmore call’s himself “Philly” throughout the project but kept saying he was from Chicago, I was like “d’fuck?” but midway through I understood. The project is boom-bap classic/backpacker rap and it’s super duper dope. I love the track “Keep Goin” because PG acknowledges the trials & tribulations we go through in life and encourages us to keep our heads down and Keep Goin. Check out “Cost of Living” and don’t miss these highlights:
Nice to Meet You
Hittin’ Blocks
Just Imagine
It’s Different
Young Dolph - Get Away: RIP Dolph! His first posthumous project “Paper Route Frank” is due out soon and this is the first single. With the vocal loop repeating “I Wanna Get Away” Dolph tells us his trappin tales, his rappin tales and what he did to relax. He said he was living in hell here on Earth and he felt like he was cursed. That’s why he wanted to Get Away. He’s in a better place now where he can break bread with his granny and his soul can rest in peace. Long Live Dolph!
Cootie ft. Nelccia - T’d: Arkansas’ Cootie dropped a new project this week called “In Trap We Trust” and it’s a slapper. My favorite track is “T’d” featuring Nelccia. It has a smooth R&B type vibe. Cootie is T’d, balling like he playing in the league. He blessed like he sneezed. Nelccia’s supporting vocals almost makes it feel like those 90’s tracks that has the rap boosted by melodic vocals like “Thuggish Ruggish Bone”. I’ve had this track on repeat too. Other standouts from “In Trap We Trust”:
Greatest
Reloaded
My Trap House
2Tone (with NBA YoungBoy)
Fetty Wap - Sweet Yamz: “Can I get to the Yamz? Sweet Yamz! Show me the way, cuz I got bills to pay” Fetty’s actually made some top tier tunes flipping other artists’ tracks. He re-rocked Outkast’s “So Fresh So Clean”, Mike Jones’ “Flossin” Gucci & Jeezy’s “So Icy” and even SahBabii’s “Pull Up Wit Ah Stick” and now he’s back with another with Masego’s “Yamz”. And he dropped it right before Thanksgiving so you know everybody gonna be bumping “Sweet Yamz” this week. Praying for Fetty and hoping he don’t have to sit down that whole 5 years he was sentenced to.
Lil Maru - Mr. Steal My Swag: West Coast spitter Lil Maru dropped a new EP this week called “From Me 2 U”. My favorite track is “Mr. Steal My Swag” an upbeat bop with a snap beat where he sings about smoking, dranking and getting jiggy with his bitty.
DSTRCT - O.T.: Another great find on the Apple Music playlist. It wasn’t til my 3rd listen that it registered that Mustard was on the beat hoe. First of all let's breakdown the artist's name. Is it short for Distract, Destruct or District? Because without the vowels it could be any of those. No matter, the song is flames and DSTRCT is working OverTime to get a big ass watch, drop top whips and big knots of catch. He knows he can’t just pray it into existence so he’s going hard day after day.
Roddy Ricch - Favor For A Favor: After dropping a few dope singles and touring with Post Malone (including a stop at SNL) Roddy is back with a new project called “Feed Tha Streets III”. I really like “Favor For A Favor”. He sings to his main bae and lets her know that he doesn’t mind spending his bread on her. Trips, gifts, anything she wants, all he asks is for a lil reciprocation, A Favor For A Favor (like a 69).
Chris Brown - It’s Giving Christmas: Breezy just went through a controversy with the AMAs and a Michael Jackson tribute but it seems like the people had his back as both Kelly Rowland and Ciara showed him some love. He dropped a 2 pack this week with “It’s Giving Christmas” and “No Time Like Christmas”. The former is a more upbeat poppy bop and the latter is more of a traditional R&B jam. Check out both as Chris comes for the Christmas crown. He’s trying to get a piece of that recurring holiday season airplay that Mariah has dominated for the past 2 decades.
Juicy J, Lex Luger & Trap-a-holics - Night In the Club: Juicy J dropped a new project this week with producers Lex Luger & Trap-a-holics called “Crypto Business”. Super dope project with club bangers, tree anthems and a lotta ass shaking and money throwing. One of my favorite tracks is “Night In the Club” which has everything you need to know about the song in the title. Go give it and the rest of “Crypto Business” a listen and don’t miss these standouts:
Hit The Smoke
Kill Dat Shit (ft. BeatKing & Lil’ Keke)
Send Her Down
Let It Go
Hot Sauce
Peezy, Jeezy, Boston Richey ft. Rob49 - 2 Million Up: Detroit stock going through the roof. Up and comer Peezy got Jeezy, Boston Richey and Rob49 on the remix to his recent hit “2 Million Up” which samples Dennis Edwards’ (of The Temptations) “Don’t Look Any Further”, the same track 2Pac sampled on the classic diss track “Hit Em Up”. The sample seems more prominent in this Peezy Remix and it sauces the whole track up even more.
Babyface Ray ft. Blxst & Nija - Spend It: Detroit going back to back on The Hit List. Another Detroit star, Babyface Ray, dropped a loosie this week with Blxst & Nija. This one is for the ladies. Nija speaks for the chicas and she likes when her boo spends them bands on her. Ray is willing to buy whatever his bitty wants as long as she’s pretty and knows how to ride. Blxst has money to blow and he gives it and lets his girl go (like the basketball play, you know… give & go…). His chick kept it solid and he knows he owes her the world and he’s willing to get her AP’s, plain jane Rollies, teacup poodles, whatever she desires.
JMB Juvie - Shoot Up The Booth: Georgia spitter JMB Juvie dropped this wavy bop this week. He talks about his journey from the streets to the stage. From broke to ballin. Now that he poppin, all the bitties want him and he has to keep his pole close by. If the opps get to talking slick, he hits the stu and Shoots Up The Booth.
Li Heat - Laser Beam: I’ve had this one in heavy rotation since I first heard it. Groovy ass beat that knocks in the whip. It has the New Orleans “ohh” in the background (I’m guessing that’s where Li Heat is from). Li Heat rides the beat flawlessly. His opps think he’s green but the only thing green bout Li Heat (besides his stacks of cash) is the laser beam on his pistol.
Parris Chariz - I Can’t Let Up: Only right that we end the list with another Detroit artist, Parris Chariz and this loosie he dropped this week “I Can’t Let Up”. Synthy keys lay the foundation on the Detroit-type beat as PC professes his faith in The Lord and lets us know his favorite airline (Delta). He also talks about being broke, doing shows in Stockton to his name ringing bells. He can’t let up and he’s got a vision for his money, it’s set up.
Other Tracks/Albums That Dropped This Week:
