The Hit List #84: (November 28 - December 4)
Lil Bean - Therapy Sessions: The Bay’s Lil Bean blessed us with a loosie this week. “Therapy Sessions” finds him getting some shit off his chest, about his dad, the homies he grew up with, and the OGs he looked up to. Him pouring his heart out into the microphone is therapy for him, and I’m grateful he recorded this and shared it with the world.
Metro Boomin, The Weekend & 21 Savage - Creepin’: Metro Boomin may have dropped the producer album of the year with “Heroes & Villains” and that’s saying a lot considering there’s another one up for Rap Album of the Year at the upcoming Grammys. The whole project is flames. It’s a cheat code when you can chef your own beats and you have the most poppin artists in the world on speed dial. One of the artists and one of the biggest artists on Earth, The Weekend, laid the foundation for this re-rock of the Mario Winans smash “I Don’t Wanna Know” which itself flipped Fugees “Ready or Not”. Track is A1, album is top shelf. Go give “Heroes & Villains” a listen and don’t miss these highlights:
Superhero (Heroes & Villains) [with Future & Chris Brown]
Trance (with Travis Scott & Young Thug)
Around Me (ft. Don Toliver)
Walk Em Down (Don’t Kill Civilians) [with 21 Savage ft. Mustafa]
Feel The Fiyaaaah (with A$AP Rocky ft. Takeoff)
Nas & 21 Savage - One Mic, One Gun: It’s good to see these 2 kings not only put their differences aside but also address the situation on this track. For the uninitiated, 21 Savage was on Clubhouse and the topic of Nas’ relevance came up which sparked a whole debate for a week. These two gentlemen move with love in all other areas of life and when they linked, that was the spirit of the song over the Hit-Boy beat. Other OGs and Young Guns should take notes.
wifisfuneral - Decisions: I feel like wifisfuneral just dropped a project a couple months ago and now he’s back for more with this new project “Until We Meet Again”. Super dope, I loved how he experimented with NY Drill beats on a couple tracks and still had room for tracks with his quintessential sound. Check out “Until We Meet Again”, 7 tracks, no skips.
A$AP Rocky - Shittin Me: Rocky been getting back to the music. He’s dropped some new loosies and been featured on a few tracks. He’s back with this bop that’s on the soundtrack for the new Need For Speed video game. It’s bouncy, and the beat sounds like it was tailor made for Flacko. His flow is in top form, he hasn’t missed a beat (pun intended).
Babyface Ray - Masterpiece: Babyface Ray dropped his second album of the year this week with “MOB” and it’s got the internet going nuts. I’m a big Ray fan but everyone seems to love this one. My favorite track is “Masterpiece”. It’s downtempo and it finds Ray talking about his come up, getting it out the mud, following his gut, and living with zero regrets. Give “MOB” a spin and check out these standouts:
Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy (ft. Lil Durk)
Vonnie Song
Send It (with Blxst & Ninja)
Code + Love Me Some More
Corner Suite
IDK - Coal: I think IDK has dropped an album worth of loosies this year alone. He dropped another gem this week with “Coal”. Soulful beat carried by keys, IDK talks about Christmas as a boy and believing in Santa and his mama letting him know what the real is. His eye is on the sparrow and he knows that The Lord is watching over him. He knows what’s for him will be. He’s doing good deeds because he don’t want no Coal.
DaBoii ft. Cash Kidd - Do Betta: SOB x RBE’s DaBoii dropped a solo project this week called “Onna Gang”. It’s full of West Coast slappers and I’ve had it on repeat all weekend. I love the flips of “Moment 4 Life” and “My Boo”. Also love “Do Betta” with Cash Kidd. The guys encourage the bitties to stop fucking with lames (they can Do Betta). They also talk about their firearms and what they like to do in their free time (pop percs, stack paper, and smash smeezys). Other highlights from “Onna Gang”:
4Life
Smoke
What’s What (ft. BabyTron)
My Boo
Cordae - Feel It In the Air: Cordae dropped this freestyle over the Beanie Sigel “Feel It In the Air” beat and for a rapper who is pretty deep and introspective already, he really keeps it a buck on this one. He talks about all the industry snakes and fakes, how he wants to get out of his pub deal (he was young when he signed it and he’s wiser now) and about how he thought about taking his own life multiple times this year. He knows now that he’s gotta keep his circle small and stay down for the ones that reciprocate.
LVRN & dvsn - Let It Snow: Love Renaissance (LVRN) dropped a compilation Christmas album this week called “Home For The Holidays, Vol. 2” with many artists on their roster (and ones they have relationships with). I loved the Baby Tate track “Might As Well Have Coal” and also this “Let It Snow” flip with dvsn. It has an MTV Unplugged vibe with the live drums. And it has a Gospel-y sound with the choir’s background vocals. Check out “Home For The Holidays, Vol. 2” and these standouts:
Santa Baby (with Summer Walker)
Might As Well Have Coal (with Baby Tate)
Bizzy Crook & Jim Jones - Rose Gold Rollie: Winter in Miami! Florida man Bizzy Crook dropped this collab track with Jim Jones this week. The beat is one of the best on the list. Chipmunked Soul sample in the back and the bars are top notch. Bizzy is living out his dreams, taking his main damie shopping, flying all around the world, copping big boy Benzes, and hella Rollies (including a Rose Gold One). He tried to keep it humble but still had to dead some friendships. Jim had niggas switch up even as he was out risking it all for the team. He knows success comes when the time is right. He’s been doing it so long, he’s like 20 Rollies in. Tough Tune.
Chinx ft. Offset - Lonely: Coke Boys! RIP Chinx! His estate dropped a posthumous album this week called “CR6”. Chinx really went hard in the stu while he was here to have all this heat in the tuck. I love the “Rolling in Dope” track with Zack and I’ve also had “Lonely” with Offset in heavy rotation. The guys talk about being broke and feeling alone. They also rap about feeling like they don’t belong. They came up, even though that can lead to a different type of loneliness (it’s lonely at the top). Check out “CR6” and these standouts:
Rolling In Dope (ft. Zack)
Jackpot
Still Down (ft. Bynoe & Cau2g’s)
On Purpose (ft. Sizzla)
OhGeesy - Gallery: Shoreline Mafia’s OhGeesy looks to be dropping his 2nd solo project soon with “GEEZYWORLD 2” (based on this track’s artwork). “Gallery” is about OG getting bread and being able to afford Gallery Dept. clothing (it ain’t cheap). He’s never pressed over a bitty and he’ll pay for multiple BBLs if shawty worth it. He used to live in an apartment, now he resides in a mansion. He used to get it in the trap, now he gets it off Rap.
Yungeen Ace - Tables Turned: Florida spitter Yungeen Ace dropped a new album this week called “Survivor Of The Trenches”. Great project with some dope features. You know he talking bout spinning the block but also how he came from the bottom. My favorite track is probably “Menace II Society” with Rob49 but I also loved “Tables Turned”. It’s a song about your life doing a 180. Ace couldn’t wait for this life shit to turn tables. He knew it was destined for him to be great. Onlookers didn’t believe in the vision, but now that he poppin, they asking for favors. Go listen to “Survivor Of The Trenches” and these standouts:
Criminology
No Lackin (with SleazyWorld Go)
Gang Nem (ft. EST Gee)
Feel This (with GMK)
Menace II Society (with Rob49)
2Rare - Lil Mama: We gotta come up with a name for this sound that 2Rare has made poppin this year. It sounds like Jersey Club mixed with NY Drill but it’s its own thing. I like Philly Bounce but nonetheless he took Mario’s “Let Me Love You” and added that Philly Bounce sound and cooked up “Lil Mama”. Can’t wait to see what the young bul cooks up next.
Phora - The Art of Healing: Cali artist Phora dropped a new album this week called “The Butterfly Effect”. Super dope album, he talks about everything from being shot and stabbed to pouring his heart out to his lady. One of my favorite tracks is “The Art of Healing”. Over acoustic strings Phora sings to his main damie. He lets her know she doesn’t have to hide and that she doesn’t have to run from the feelings she has inside. He lets her know that she’s safe around him and she’s perfect to him. Shawty comes on and expresses the same. She helped him heal his scars and leave the past in the past. She showed him how to feel love and now Phora loves himself. Other highlights from “The Butterfly Effect”:
All Falls Down
Soul Ties (ft. Skye)
Fall For You
Euphoria
Late At Night
Antha Pantha - Real Bitches: Another week, another dope discovery on the Apple Music new Hip-Hop playlist. This one for the ladies! This Antha Pantha anthem is a club banger for the Real Bitches. AP don’t need makeup and her booty fat, no BBL. She doesn’t have massive milkers and she’s cool with that. All her homegirls got jobs, pay they bills and don’t need a nigga for nothing. If you get one like Antha Pantha, you better cherish her.
DSTRCT - Sacrifices & Luck: 10 Summers signee DSTRCT dropped a new album this week called “Installation 001”. 7 tracks of straight crack (and it helps when you have Mustard on (some of) Tha Beats hoe!) My favorite track is “Sacrifices & Luck” where the Cali spitter talks about chasing dreams. He knows he won’t get unlimited opportunities so he’s gotta grab life by the horns. He knows it ain’t guaranteed but God showed him that there’s a plan for him. They doubted him but he continues rising. Check out “Installation 001”. 7 tracks, no skips.
TMCtheDon - Call My Gang: Yet another dope discovery on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop playlist. This one is a flip of Wyclef Jean’s hit “ 911” except on this one TMCtheDon calls his homies to spin the block instead of 12. They never leave the house poleless and when they see the opps, they won’t stop spinnin til the get em.
Finesse2Tymes ft. Gucci Mane - Nobody: Memphis rapper Finesse2Tymes was recently released from the bing. Was in a high-profile relationship. Got out of that high-profile relationship and got in the stu with some of the biggest artists out. He dropped a new album this week called “90 Days”. Buncha slappers up and down the album. My favorite track is the Gucci Mane collab “Nobody”, their 2nd track in as many months. “Nobody” is about not getting played by no niggas or no bitties. Finesse is eating shrimp and potatoes and feeds his thotties Mickey D’s. He vows to never cooperate with the authorities and to never go back broke. Gucci started out local, now he’s global. Gucci doesn’t give chicks closure. He’s polite but he don’t need people. He makes M’s all over the world and warns the citizens of Earth not to put their hands on him unless they wanna die. Check out “90 Days” and these highlights:
Outside
Finesse Duh P
Lil Baby
Summo
