The Hit List week 87: (December 19 - December 25)
Hurricane Wisdom - Derek Jeter: Shoutout to Florida! There was no rest for the FL spitters this week and one of those gems was an album by Hurricane Wisdom called ”State of Emergency”. Super dope project (and my favorite drop of the week). He reminds me a bit of Rod Wave with his delivery and subject matter. “Derek Jeter” is one of my favorites and it has a soulful beat and finds HW talking down on his haters and ballin like Derek Jeter. Check out ”State of Emergency” and these highlights:
Real Me
Patience (with NoCap)
Motion (Remix) [with SpliffJit]
Sober
Benny The Butcher, Elcamino, Rick Hyde & Heem B$F - St. Maurice: Big B$F Shit! This is the guy's second drop in as many weeks. I smell an album. I don’t need to tell you what they did on this, you already know. Bars on top of bars over a boom-bap beat. Go listen.
Hotboii - Writing My Wrongs: Florida man Hotboii dropped the Deluxe to his most recent album “Blinded By Death”. My favorite of the Deluxe tracks is “Writings My Wrongs” where Hotboii sings to his main lady. He’s on the road thinking bout her. Even though he’s married to the money, she’s his ride or die. He knows she’s the Bonnie to his Clyde.
NBA Youngboy - HTAFL: YB dropped a new project this week called “Lost Files” which looks to be an official release of loosies he dropped over the past few years. I heard quite a few of these tracks before including “Perc 10”. I loved the opening track HTAFL. It finds Youngboy on a beat that sounds like early Rick Ross with its uptempo clubby feel. What does HTAFL stand for you ask? I dunno, but I’d guess How To (A word) For Life. Check out “Lost Files” and these highlights:
On A Boat
Perc 10
I Love It
Temporary Time
Dangerous
Baby Money - American Gangsta: Detroit’s Baby Money dropped a loosie this week. His song “Tables Turn” is one of my favorite songs of the year (and it’s my most listened to song since it dropped). His new track “American Gangsta” has a Detroit-type beat with B Money talking about his hustling prowess, his tricked out whips, and his affinity for helping his homies elevate.
Sauce Walka ft. Jackboy - Don’t Play Me: Houston’s Sauce Walka dropped a new project this week called “Ghetto Gospel 3”. Dope project with lots of Gospel-esque & Soul beats. His collab with Jackboy is one of the highlights. It has a soul-sampled beat as Sauce & Jack go verse for verse with no hook. Check out “Ghetto Gospel 3” and these standouts:
Here I Am
Black Kings (ft. Babyface Ray)
Peace Treaties
Who Am I
Michael Beasley
Chris O’Bannon ft. 1TakeJay - BNB Lit: Another week, another great find on the Apple Music’s New Hip-Hop playlist. Compton’s own Chris O’Bannon dropped a loosie with 1TakeJay. They pull up to the AirBNB lit. Lotta rich niggas present and they asking the bops to pull up and get active.
Fenix Flexin & Cypress Moreno - Known Spenders: Shoreline Mafia’s Fenix Flexin dropped an EP this week with Cypress Moreno called “Tour Files”. My favorite track is “Known Spenders”. Fenix talks about the joys and pains of the game. He can’t love no bittie but he loves Wockhardt. He warns the opps about speaking on his name especially when they have no motion. Everywhere you go you can ask about him and his crew, they some Known Spenders.
ITS HAB & FCG Heem - Portland 2: Another great find on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop Playlist and the 3rd Florida entry on this week’s list. ITS HAB & FCG Heem dropped a dope loosie this week. ITS HAB spits that real shit. He talks about cases he beat and when times got dark he kept the faith. He hit the ground a million times but never fell. Heem doesn’t give a fuck about who leaves his circle, he puts his faith in God. He’s lost homies and those scars cut deep. He’s out getting the bag each day and his main mission is to make it home back to his son. Tough Tune.
Marc E. Bassy - Glory: California artist Marc E. Bassy dropped a new project this week called “Man Makes Plans” which is part of the famous quote “Man Makes Plans, God Laughs”. Dope project with eclectic vibes throughout including some rapping and some melodic delivery. One of my favorite tracks is “Glory” and the first line he tells shawty to get the shrooms and the yay ready (I felt that). Glory was the name of the baddest chick Marc ever saw and he dedicated this one to her. He’s on double duty as he raps the verses then sings the hook. Give “Man Makes Plans” a listen and don’t miss these highlights:
Black Eyed Angel
You Pour Up Mine
Tonight
Trapland Pat - Woo: Florida in the building once again for the 4th time on this week’s Hit List. This was another gem I found on the Apple Music New Hip Hop playlist. This loosie by Trapland Pat has a soul beat with some heavy bass. T Pat never leaves the house without that switchy thang. He’s gotta hella baddies on his timeline and he don’t roll around with grimy, tattle-tellin ass niggas. He rolls around with smackers only.
KILLY - Shot Caller: Canadian spitter KILLY dropped a new project this week called “Crazy Life of Sin”. I’ve already had the track “CEO” on the Hit List when it dropped previously. My favorite of the new tracks is “Shot Caller”. KILLY throws hella cash and when he does all the shawtys throw it back. He’s the highest in the room and everyone knows he’s a Shot Caller.
Chris Webby ft. ANoyd & Jitta On The Track - Elephant: Conneticut MC Chris Webby (who was rumored to have dated Halle Berry) dropped a new 27 track project called “Wednesday Before Last”. Super dope project, with a lot of super dope features. Also read up on Chris after listening to this. He’s got an interesting story. My favorite track of the album is “Elephant” featuring ANoyd (who also dropped a Top Tier album earlier this year) and Jitta On the Track. Give “Wednesday Before Last” a listen a be sure to check out these standouts:
Superstar (ft. Justin Clancy)
Bag (ft. Bun B & Paul Wall)
Bad Day (ft. Millyz)
Running In Circles (ft. Bria Lee)
Grenade (ft. Ekoh)
MoneySign Suede - Red On My Mind: Another dope find on Apple Music this week was a new project by Cali rapper MoneySign Suede called “Parkside Santa”. I really like the Maxo Kream collab “Petty”. Also, “Red On My Mind” is a super duper vibe. It has the Detroit-Type beat drum loop as MSS talks about all the shit he went through. He pledges allegiance to that red flag and vows to slide for the team.
Wizz Havin - Seatbelt: Florida on the list for the 5th time this week. Wizz Havin dropped a new album called “Mr. Too Sticky”. Dope album, I’ve had “Seatbelt” on repeat. It has a smooth Detroit-type beat with a soul sample in the back (it’s Loose Ends “You Can’t Stop the Rain” which Lamar from BMF sings before killing [redacted]). Wizz mentions Lamar in the track and this one is gonna be in my Serrato for awhile. Check out “Mr. Too Sticky” and these highlights:
Who Is Zuper?
Mr. Too Sticky
Put Me On It
Shoebox Baby - Baby Flow: Chicago’s own Shoebox Baby dropped a new project this week called “It Ain’t Over”. Whole project slaps and I really loved “Baby Flow”. The beat crazy as Shoebox goes bar for bar talking about being in the field and even showing the opps some respect as some of them have came up (a wise man takes his enemies seriously.) The Fredo Bang collab “No Cap Pt. 2” is special too.
SpliffJit - My Respect: Florida back for the 6th time on the list this week as SpliffJit dropped a new album this week called “Street Politician”. This one samples the same soul song that Kanye, Twista & Jamie Foxx sampled on “Slow Jamz”. Spliff talks about popping out with the stick and spinning the block on the opps. He demands his respect and he’ll slide with his AR to make sure he gets it. Other highlights from “Street Politician”.
Deal With Ya
Wish I Knew
Cadillac
sswampbabyy ft. Luh Tyler - Birds Out: One more time for the sunshine State. Florida representing for the 7th time on this week's list (almost half the list) with sswampbaby dropping a new project called “Love Hurt”. My favorite track is his collab with Luh Tyler (who went viral recently for one of his tracks). “Birds Out” is a vibe. sswampbaby been cooling out, but the haters been testing him so he got the toolie ready to rock. Speak on his name and he might act a fool. Luh Tyler is down to slide too. He gets paid to cook up in that stu and rock the mic. He’s on the road to riches, he gotta get his pockets right.
