The Hit List #9: (June 21 - June 27) [2021]
Tyler, The Creator ft. Pharrell Williams & Lil Uzi Vert - JUGGERNAUT: Sir Baudelaire dropped “Call Me If You Get Lost” this week, the follow up to his Grammy-winning album “Igor” and this one is already in Album of the Year conversations. And, he got DJ Drama to ad-lib the whole album, so it’s like a super-polished Gangsta Grill mixtape. On this standout track, he gets assists from Skateboard P and Uzi. Tyler pushes a Rolls-Royce in some Timbs, while Uzi in some Louis V getting topped in the drop top V16 Lamb. Pharrell rhymes “grip tape” with “shit shake”, “clickbait” and “fish plate”. Bonkers! Go listen to the whole “Call Me If You Get Lost” album. Not.One.Skip.
Rejjie Snow ft. Tinashe & grouptherapy - Disco Pantz: Funky bop. Perfect skating rink song. Dedicated to the ladies, Rejjie starts with a verse dedicated to his cornrowed Filipino model chick who he hopes to make some half-Frican babies with one day. grouptherapy (who I’m assuming is one nigga) wears hella rings and just looking for his Coretta so he can build a family and then bequeath hella bread to them when he passes away. Tinashe's melodious voice is the glue.
Bfb Da Packman ft. Zack Fox - Bob & Weave: Hello! The Rapper who hails from Flint, Michigan but runs plays in Houston, dropped his debut album “Fat Niggas Need Love Too” this week and this shit slaps. The “Bob & Weave” beat has a 90’s R&B sound to it and two of the funniest spitters go all the way in. I’ll let them tell you, BFB: “If Lizzo sold her coochie juice, I wanna buy a swiggle” Zack: “I tried to cook crack once with my slow cousin, we burned my auntie kitchen down ‘cause we left the stove running.” Nuff said! Check out these other tracks from “Fat Niggas Need Love Too”:
Northside Ghetto Soldier
Free Joe Exotic (ft. Sada Baby)
Honey Pack
Fun Time (ft. Wiz Khalifa)
Ocean Prime
Bob & Weave (ft. Zack Fox)
Enilak
DJ Kay Slay ft. The Game - 72 Bar Assassin: The Drama King and The Doctor’s Advocate linked for a dope track. Game delivers a superb 72 bars touching on everything from Lloyd Banks new album to a possible Verzuz with 50 to smashing his homie’s soon to be ex-wife on a jetski. West Coast big steppa talk.
Doja Cat - Naked: Doja Cat released her new album “Planet Her” this week and I liked it a lot more than I expected. Upbeat, radio ready, polished, and layered, DC shows off her range on this album. This track is one of the sexy joints. Doja asks “Can we take this off and get naked?” She tryna get it in. I played this in the whip hoping to get my shawty in the mood and she said she wouldn’t fuck me if I was the last nigga on Earth. She’s crazy about me obvi! Also from “Planet Her”:
Woman
Get Into It (Yuh)
Need to Know
You Right (ft. The Weekend)
Options (ft. JID)
Alone
Kiss Me More (ft. SZA)
Trae Tha Truth - June 27th: Flipping the beat of DJ Screw’s “June 27th” (which was also sampled by Drake on “November 18th”) the Houston rapper/activist and all around solid nigga talks all that Houston shit on this one. Slabs, crawlin corners, tippin on 44s, all that shit.
Young Tory - Row Ya Boat: This a bop! Catchy tune, YT croons about the grind, smoking exotic marijuana, foreign whips, iced out jewelry, and ejactulaing on his shawty’s weave.
ShooterGangKony - Over They Head: SGK hops on this hard ass beat and starts poppin shit. He was upset at one of his bitties, so he smashed her friend to send a message. His budget for Maison Margiela apparel is larger than some people's rent. He also isn’t afraid to touch any member of your family in retaliation so best be careful messing with him (or any nigga with “ShooterGang” in his name).
Big Sean - Freshman 10: To mark the 10 year anniversary of his debut album “Finally Famous” Sean Don dropped this track. On it, he reminisces about his come up, being on the XXL Freshman cover, meeting Wiz, hearing about an up and coming NC rapper named J. Cole (also a XXL Freshman that year), meeting Jay Rock and being introduced to his youngin (K. Dot), meeting Nipsey. He even talks about meeting fellow XXL Freshman OJ Da Juiceman and being in awe of his drip. Sean proclaims his class the best ever which includes all the aforementioned rappers and Grammy-nominated Freddie Gibbs to boot.
Russ - Satisfy: Every week I’m in awe of the quality and quantity of Russ’s output. Even crazier that he’s independent, so it’s all on him to push himself to get in the stu and put in work. He’s back at it again with a song for the ladies. He just wants to Satisfy his shawty. We talking multiple O’s! He’s got the stamina, the will and the skill to please his lady and we all could learn a thing or two from Never Rush Russ.
EST Gee - Capitol 1: “What’s in your Wallet?” The CMG rapper gets right to flexing on this track. 100 thousand on his neck and wrist (which is more than some people’s student loan debt). He’s not a fan of condoms and doesn’t use them often. He ingests Percocets, Zaza (which I think is exotic weed) and Wockhardt (which is a name brand of Promethazine Lean Cough Sizzurp Purple Drank). In summary, he likes to party, he likes raw sex, he likes to make lots of money and use that money on expensive jewelry.
Young Rog ft. 6lack & Freddie Gibbs - Organized Chaos: The LVRN singer released his debut album “Boy Next Door” this week and this song not only has the most starpower, but it’s also one of the best. An anthem to the rollercoaster of love. Trust, communication, Young Rog just asking for that in abundance. Labelmate 6lack assists with the vocals while Gangsta Gibbs spits about some Badu-esque wet wet he slid in that had him hypnotized. Check out these other highlights from “Boy Next Door”:
On My Mind
On The Road
Destiny
The Fall
Kidd G ft. Lil Uzi Vert - Teenage Dream 2: Uzi back in his Country Rap tunes bag. He hopped on Lil Tracy’s Like A Farmer remix a couple years ago and this track is on that wave. A country pop bop, radio ready and starring rising country star Kidd G, the guys let their special ladies know that they wanna be their Teenage Dream. Uzi even shows off the brand new JT tat on his hand (man's smitten). They want shawty to ride shotgun on the way to the back streets so they can do the nasty in the back seat. No one-nighters, they looking for for-lifers.
