The Hit List WEEK 92: (January 23 - January 29)
Kamaiyah - Champagne Tears: The Cali Queen Kamaiyah dropped a new loosie this week (she might be dropping another project soon if I had to guess). “Champagne Tears” is smooth West Coast bop. For ‘Miyah, the money ain’t a thang. She’s sipping champagne through the pain. The tears won’t fall down her eyes. She’s locked in with her day 1’s and she’ll bounce back every time.
Lil Yachty - sAy sOMETHINg: Big Boat dropped a new project this week that set the internet ablaze. Everyone loved the vibes and the Rock/Pop melodic sound Yachty used throughout “Let’s Start Here.” I too loved it (I listened to it all the way through, no skips). “Say Something” is my favorite track and it has a simple hi-hat/snare loop with Yachty asking his shawty to vocalize her feelings for him. She got him feeling like a teen again. If she feels the same way, he just wants her to Say Something. Check out “Let’s Start Here.” if you haven’t already. One of the best albums of the year so far.
Fivio Foreign ft. Tata, Jenn Carter & Kyle Ricch - Notice Me: Fivi got some assistance for his latest NY Drill anthem. The beat crazy, it got a sexy feel to it but Fivi still talks about being outside and dropping the opps. Tata brings the energy and his opps know they better not test him. Jenn Carter don’t fuck with no smoochies and she always got multiple sticks. Kyle Ricch be wit his steppers and he keeps the switch ‘cause niggas be switching.
Popcaan - Wish No Bad: Dancehall legend Popcaan dropped a new album this week called “Great is He”. Dope project, lots of melodic sounds and tracks for the ladies (you know he was cooking up with the 6 God). One of my favorite tracks is “Wish No Bad” (which is a 180 from a song he previously made with Sizzla, “Wish Bad”). On the track, he acknowledges the haters but also doesn’t wanna put out anymore hate in the world (only love) so he wishes his hater No Bad.
Richie Evans ft. Rick Ross & Vedo - Can’t Knock the Hustle: Shoutout Phoenix! AZ spitter Richie Evans dropped a new track this week with the biggest boss and rising star Vedo. They been paying their dues to pay the bills so you Can’t Knock the Hustle. Both Richie & Rick's verses are A1 and Vedo is silky smooth on the hook. It has the feel of those classic 90’s tracks with rappers & R&B singers splitting duties.
Styles P ft. Brady Watt - Death Before Dishonor: Styles P dropped a new project as he prepares for the end of his solo career. The new album is called “Penultimate: A Calm Wolf Is Still A Wolf” (which leads me to believe this is his 2nd to last solo project). My favorite track is “Death Before Dishonor” with Brady Watt and although it was released last week, I heard it for the 1st time this week. It’s different from your classic Styles, it has a twist of Rock & Roll and stripped down drums. Super duper dope track, Brady Watts melodic vocals create a nice contrast.
Cordae ft. Anderson .Paak - Two Tens: J. Cole cooked up this beat for two of the best artists in the game right now. They use a tennis flow as they go back and forth within each verse. They tryna go two on two with two friends (and they both tens looking nice). AP is wit it but Cordae is offering a different perspective. Tough Tune.
Popstar Benny & Moh Baretta - feelbadcorps: Producer Popstar Benny dropped a new project this week called “University!” I’ve had his song “All The Girls <3” with Tony Shhnow in heavy rotation since it dropped a couple weeks ago and this project offers more of that quality, new wave Hip-Hop. My favorite track is a flip of the Gorillaz’ “Feel Good Inc”. This one is a collab with Moh Beretta called “feelbadcorps”. If you like the original, you’ll dig this one too.
Vic Mensa ft. Thundercat & Maeta - STRAWBERRY LOUIS VUITTON: Chi town in the building! Mr. Mensa dropped a new funky track with Thundercat & Maeta. Vic uses a melodic flow and bars to serenade one of his ladies. He likes to listen to jazz and have sexual relations. You might find him cruising in the drop top rocking a solid gold rollie, dripped out in Strawberry Louis Vuitton. Maeta’s background vocals and Thundercat’s outro (and instrumentation) really sauce this one up.
Spinabenz ft. Whoppa Wit Da Choppa - Dum Ways 2 Die: Florida Man Spinabenz dropped a new project this week called “No More Heroes”. Dope project with that sound that made him a viral sensation on “Who I Smoke”. My favorite track “Dum Ways 2 Die” features another artist from that viral hit, Whoppa Wit Da Choppa. They talk about all the ways one can become deceased. Spinabenz is the Tornado Kid because he spins the block all the way around and doesn't stop til he demolishes everything in his path.
Rae Sremmurd - Sucka Or Sum: The Alabama bros are rolling out their upcoming project “Sremm 4 Life” and they’ve dropped off another single in the lead up. This one is my favorite so far. It has a flute loop and finds the guys asking the bitties why they be actin like the guys are suckas. The world is theirs, they got the Za, the jewelry, and the money stacked taller than Yao Ming.
TG Kommas - Made Like Me: Atlantic artist TG Kommas dropped a new project this week called “Welcome To The Trenches”. I loved the title track (which was released a couple weeks ago) and I also love the track “Made Like Me”. TGK be going through stressful situations but prays that it’ll get better. He went through the pain but he didn’t let it break him and he knows that everybody ain’t built like him.
Deante Hitchcock - U Were Right I Was Wrong: The ATLien dropped off this new track and it might be my favorite track from this week. He dedicates this to that special someone. He knows love is hard and part of it is admitting when you’re wrong. On this track, DH lets his shawty know that she was right. “All the pretty girls ‘round the world gon’ feel this”
Summrs - The Detox: Louisiana artist Summrs dropped a new project this week called “Stuck In My Ways”. Dope project, my favorite track is one that was produced by Chief Keef and you can hear an interpolation of Avant’s “Read Your Mind” (hard) although Summrs talks about freeing his hittas from prison and all the millions he’s sitting on. I played this track back 3 times just now (it’s gas).
Chlöe - Pray It Away: As Chlöe (no Bailey) preps her debut solo project she blessed us with a new loosie. Her voice is angelic and she pours her soul out on this one. She sings about a love lost. She gave it her all but had to move on and all she can do is take it to church and wash it away. She just wants to heal where it hurts so she’s going to Pray It Away.
Sam Smith & Ed Sheeran - Who We Love: Sam Smith dropped a new album this week called “Gloria”. Excellent project filled with love ballads. My favorite track is “Who We Love” with fellow UK Megastar Ed Sheeran. I don’t need to describe the track, just go listen, you know it’s special.
Zack Bia & Don Toliver - Hardcore: How about a clubby bop for ya headtop? Producer Zack Bia linked with Jackboy Don Toliver for this dance track. Heavy bass as Don lays the vocals. Shawty likes it Hardcore and when this one comes on in the club, asses get to shaking. Nobody stops.
Reuben Vincent ft. REASON & Stacy Barthe - Bottle Service: Roc Nation artist Reuben Vincent dropped a new project this week called "Love Is War" and he got some A1 features. Project is super dope and my favorite track is this one with TDE’s REASON. Production is crazy as Reuben talks about real life shit (including his battles with the Bottle). He sometimes drinks his pain away (and may have gotten that from his pops). You might find Reez in the Hills or in the Hood. He might drink a 40 every now and then but he’s more of an herb guy. He experienced trauma but he don’t let it slow him down.
Toosii - Magic Potion: Toosii dropped a sexy new single this week. It’s dedicated to his shawty because she got the wet wet that feels like lotion and it always smells like roses. He likes to pour up some purple drank in a liter of Sprite (that’s the Magic Potion) then goes and dives in shawty’s ocean.
Bouba Savage - Baby Goat: Highbridge the Label artist Bouba Savage dropped a new project this week called “It’s Amazing” and it is in fact amazing. I been bumping quite a few tracks. “Baby Goat” is my favorite as it combines two of my favorite things, NY Drill and Ready For The World’s “Let Me Love You Down”.
Maesu - Sex on GPS: LA artist Maesu dropped a new wavy track this week for that late night playlist. Maesu been away for weeks so he hits up his amor to slide through for some hot and heavy humping. He’s down to record it if she's down. He’s dropping his location and hoping shawty can swing by expeditiously.
Celly Ru ft. DaBoii & Stunna Girl - Thot: Northern Cali spitter Celly Ru dropped a new project this week called “Money Family Respect”. The title track is super dope. I also love the collab with SOBxRBE’s Da Boii & Stunna Girl, “Thot”. It’s a flip of a Game & Problem track “T.H.O.T.” and it’s just as fire as the original.
TLE Cinco - Not Normal: Another week another great find on the Apple Music New Hip-Hop Playlist. Alabama spitter and 300 signee TLE Cinco dropped a new bop this week. It has a triumphant sound and sounds like one of my favorite Key Glock track’s “Understood”.
Siya - Circles: Def Jam artist Siya dropped a new EP this week called “Mixed Emotions”. 6 tracks all gas, no brakes. My favorite track is Circles, a downtempo track that finds Siya using a melodic flow & bars to describe the ebbs and flows of love. She doesn't want shawty back but she can’t get her outta her head. They been going round and round in Circles.
Slayter - Opps To Angels: Cold Game Slayter dropped a new loosie this week. He warns the opps that he keeps the blicky on him and he won’t hesitate to turn them into angels. They’ll put him on a shirt of smoke em in a blunt. He’s hood famous and he won’t let the paper change him.
Bic Fizzle - Where U From: New 1017 artist Bic Fizzle dropped a project this week (“Clark Street Baby”) but I feel like this was the deluxe (or the superdeluxe) because I’m pretty sure this one came out twice already (Jordan shrug). My favorite of the new tracks is “Where U From” a party track that samples Nipsey’s “Hussle in the House” which itself samples Kriss Kross’ “Jump” which samples Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”. So yes, this track is a Jackson 5 Great Grandbaby.
Cruch Calhoun, Dave East & Dre Mac - Tapped In: As you can tell by this list and previous lists, I’m a sucker for a sample and Cruch Calhoun sampled the West Coast classic “Fuck Wit Dre Day”. Throw in Dave East & Dre Mac and you got a smash. The message is simple. If you touch down in their hood you better Tap In for your own protection.
