The Hit List week 95: (February 13 - February 19)
Fetty Wap - Tonight: Free Fetty! Wap won’t let federal prison stop him from dropping bops. After dropping the viral hit “Yamz” around Thanksgiving, he’s back with this slapper for Valentine’s Day. His girl makes him so proud, the way she breaks it down (prolly the work…). He wants to kick it with her tonight. It’s nothing he won’t do for shawty.
DJ.Fresh ft. E-40, Larry June & Dreebo - Pop My Shit: Producer DJ.Fresh recruited some of the Bay’s finest for this flip of one of my favorite Ol Skool tracks, Man Parrish’s “Boogie Down Bronx”. The beat is classic and the guys hop in the booth and Pop they Shit.
Northside Benji - Green Light: Canada’s Northside Benji dropped an EP this week called “Prophecy”. My favorite track is “Green Light”. NB uses a melodic flow over a minimalist beat to get introspective and ask for the Green Light to get at his opps. The only thing he fears is Allah and the feds (I know that from “30,000 Ft”) so don’t test him or you gonna be dancing with the metal.
A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie ft. Vory - No 808s: A Boogie had to get in on the V-Day action. He spits to his main damie. She told him not to the let the money change him. Everything he does is for her. He likes being rich but he still loved when he was poor because they had each other. Vory’s heart is on fire. He’s a big dawg around his way. His shawty has it her way like Burger King. He loves her in the worst way and everyday is like Valentine’s Day and her B-Day.
IDK - Radioactive: Formerly “Jay” IDK dropped a new loosie this week. In the video he’s in the UK (North London to be exact) and the track has a Baltimore Club bounce to it. “Glocks up, switches on, cock it when you hear this song”. He’s ready, Radioactive shit. He promises the opps he’ll get them before sundown. Him and his crew don’t play and they be on the block all day, they ain’t hiding. They ready to rumble.
Jay Critch ft. Baby Money - Raincoats: The Hood Fav dropped a new project this week called “Jugg Season”. It’s my favorite drop of the week and my favorite track is his collaboration with Detroit’s Baby Money, “Raincoats”. JC calls out the 2-faced, snake ass niggas in his circle. He already ducking the jakes and the opps, and now he gotta stay low because he don’t know who to trust. Baby Money know the bitties never loved him, they just playing a role. His only goal in the streets is to make it home. He’s paid in full but his Ace gone and now he gotta stay strong. Check out “Jugg Season” and these highlights:
That Was Random
Punchy
Minutes
Still Wavy (ft. Max B)
Missiles (ft. Rich The Kid)
Clutch
Janelle Monae ft. Seun Kuti & Egypt Bo - Float: Janelle Monae is having a helluva run. After stealing the show in Netflix’s “Glass Onion” she had an epic twitter clap back and just set NBA All Star Weekend on fire. This week, she dropped a new track with melodic flows and bars. She really is floating. She got all the heavy negative energy off her and now she’s light as a feather.
Flo Milli - Nasty Dancer: Alabama’s Flo Milli dropped a new club banger this week. She’s a mood and her milkshake is like cocoa, it makes all the niggas go loco. She been counting cash and having niggas beggin to come over. She really that bitch. She’ll fuck up a nigga life then make him go to church.
Neek Bucks, Wiz Khalifa & Chrishan - BALLER: NY’s Neek Bucks dropped a new project this week called “BLESSED TO THE MAX”. Dope project, I was vibing to quite a few tracks. My favorite has to be his flip of Lil Troy’s classic “Wanna Be a Baller”. The Wiz feature adds alotta sauce too.
DD Osama & Coi Leray - Up Now: Some NY Drill for ya headtop. Coi Leray linked with NY Driller DD Osama for a new loosie. Drill beat with some chipmunked vocals in the background. DD likes to slide off in exotic whips with bad bitties. Everybody tells him he does it the best. Coi makes niggas beg for the kitty and always sports Avianne diamonds. She got Cash Money like Baby.
Don Toliver ft. Kali Uchis - 4 Me: The streets is saying Don Toliver is gearing up for an album drop. He released this track and a collab with Durk & Glorilla called “Leave The Club” (along with a snippet and a lil dance all the Tik Tok-ers can break they ankles to). “4 Me” features (his girl?) Kali Uchis and is a flip of the Beenie Man/Mya smash “Girls Dem Sugar”. If you like the original, you’ll love this one.
Big Scarr - Try Being Me: RIP Scarr. The young 1017 artist Big Scarr tragically passed away a couple months ago. A posthumous album was dropped this week called “The Secret Weapon”. My favorite track “Try Being Me” actually came out months ago (Scarr even made a video for it) but this was my first time hearing it. It has an epic beat with strings that makes it sound like a movie score.
Polo G ft. Future - No Time Wasted: Polo G back with a new inspirational track. Produced by Southside (808 Mafia) and featuring Fyutch, Polo raps about his ascent from the bottom to the top. He always knew he’d make it (and bring the team too). He encourages us all to keep our heads up and have patience. Make every second count and waste no time.
Key Glock - Work: Paper Route Empire’s Key Glock dropped a new loosie this week and it’s about putting in that Work. He gets it in like the 1st and the 3rd, 10 toes down. He lost his main man (Dolph) and everyday that shit hurt. He hears Dolph’s voice in his head everyday telling him to Work.
DJ Drama ft. ABoogie Wit Da Hoodie & Lil Baby - HO4ME: It seems like a week doesn’t go by without Drama being on The Hit List. Most of the time it’s a new Gangsta Grillz tape but this week it’s a loosie (which probably signals he has his own project dropping sometime this year). This one fits the Valentine’s Day theme of many of the other tracks on the list as he recruited A Boogie and Lil Baby to lay the vocals for HO4ME. The central theme? The like when they shawtys is Hoes (but for them only) like Lady in the Streets, Freak in the Sheets type situation.
OG Parker ft. Ty Dolla $ign & Muni Long - Still Work: Producer OG Parker dropped a new collab track with talented multi-hyphenates Ty Dolla & Muni Long. It’s a spin the block anthem (just in time for V-Day). They wanna let their old flames know that their phone numbers Still Work.
El Michels Affair & Black Thought - That Girl: Black Thought had to get in on the Valentine’s Day action and enlisted the band El Michels Affair (I guess the Roots was busy or summin). It looks like they might have a project coming out called “Glorious Game”. “That Girl” finds BT spittin bars to his shawty over a jazzy beat. She’s a heartbreaker but he’s drawn to her.
NF - HOPE: Nathan Ferstein, a rapper who goes by NF released this motivational track this week. This shit came on in the gym and it had me hyped. From the piano keys leading into the orchestral strings and his bars advising us to dream big, grind hard, have faith, and believe when no one else does. This track is one of the best of the year so far.
Luh Tyler ft. Trapland Pat - Can’t Move Wrong: Rising Florida Star Luh Tyler dropped a new track this week with fellow Florida Man Trapland Pat. “Can’t Move Wrong” has some Detroit-Type beat elements and both gentlemen snapped. Smooth bars about they fly whips, getting money, stealing niggas bitties, and rocking the mic (pause, resume) any chance they get.
AAP Deno ft. DJ Khaled & Raw Youngin - Supa Ties: Another week, another dope find on the Apple Music New Hip Hop playlist. This is the 1st track I’ve ever seen DJ Khaled as a featured artis,t and for a nigga that don’t rap he must have produced or help compose this track. This one hooked me with the Daft Punk “One More Time” interpolation. Deno and Raw Youngin did their thing too.
