The Hit List week 96: (February 20 - February 26)
ALLBLACK ft. BabyTron - Chaka Khan: Yay Area’s ALLBLACK dropped a new album this week called “Born To Score” and it’s my favorite album for the week. Cali slappers throughout featuring fellow Cali Demons like Jay Worthy and a collab with NY Driller Dusty Locane. My favorite track is the collab with Detroit’s Babytron over a beat that samples the Chaka Khan classic “Ain’t Nobody” and it’s only right they titled the track “Chaka Khan”. Check out “Born To Score” and these highlights:
Literally
3rd Quarter (ft. Cash Kidd)
Step Off
End Zone (ft. Jay Worthy)
Burpees (with Dusty Locane)
EST Gee - Undefeated: This new loosie from EST Gee quickly became my favorite track of his. The soul sample with the “ooo’s” really sets the mood. Gee is a real street nigga but he got dreams. He wishes on a shooting star even as he spins the block night after night. He knows the streets ain’t got no love for him so he stays in the stu. He worked hard to change his fate and this track is him venting about the come up.
Trapland Pat & Luh Tyler - Backstreet: Florida Boyz Trapland Pat & Luh Tyler dropped their 2nd collab in as many weeks with “Backstreet” and this one is a super vibe. Wavy beat with some sexy keys. The guys talk about drilling the opps, rocking designer, and smashing the smeezes. They getting to the bag, not making friends. They looking out for the fam til the end. You can catch them outside on the Backstreets.
Key Glock - Dirt: Memphis’ Key Glock dropped a new project this week, “Glockcoma 2”. Super dope project. My favorite track is “Dirt” which samples an old soul song (that Ye Sampled) but I can’t figure out what it is (I think it’s on Dark Fantasy). Anyway, Glizzock flipped it to let us know that he’s sick of niggas throwing Dirt on his name. He made millions and people thought he changed but he still the same Ol G. Staying out the way, stacking his pay, and motivating the youngins. This street shit ain’t no joke and if you wanna get rich, you gotta get up off yo ass. Do yourself a favor a check out “Glockcoma 2” and these standouts:
Work
Designer Down
From Nothing
Fuck Dat Shit
Homicide Gvng
Quavo - Greatness: QC had a major moment recently when their catalog sold for a reported 300 Million. This looks to be the first single released since, and on it, Quay pays homage to his nephew Takeoff (RIP) and promises to take care of the fam for life. He also deads the idea of a Migos reunion and it doesn’t seem like him and Offset are on good terms. He does acknowledge what they’ve accomplished in becoming one of the most successful, most influential Hip-Hop groups of all time. If he never lays another verse, he has achieved Greatness.
Kota The Friend & Statik Selektah - Real Ones: NY’s Kota the Friend linked with legendary producer Statik Selektah for this loosie. The beat is prolly the best on this list and Kota’s bars are A1 as usual. Life’s good and he knows the hate gone come. He knows real shit gonna bring fake love. That’s why he only sings for the Real Ones, the ones that show him real love.
Don Toliver ft. Brent Faiyaz - Bus Stop: Jackboy Donny T finished his accelerated rollout by dropping his new album “Love Sick” this week. It’s an excellent project and he’s fully in his bag. I loved all the songs that dropped previously and of the album cuts I really love “Time Heals All” and my fav is “Bus Stop” with Brent Faiyaz. “Bus Stop” has that Jersey Club sound that has been revived after Uzi’s “I Just Wanna Rock” (I call the new sound Philly Bounce). Don & Brent was the collab I didn’t know we needed but it’s Top Tier and I hope they work together again in the future. This one will play in clubs (strip and regular) for the foreseeable future.
Lil Wayne ft. DMX - Kant Nobody: Lil Wayne got a beat from Swizz that has a DMX sample and he slaughtered it. He talks that slick shit, wordplay crazy, it’s definitely Mixtape Weezy. Swizzy really gave him a head banger, a neck snapper.
Superstar Pride - Painting Pictures: Another week, another dope find on the Apple Music New Hip Hop playlist. This track from Superstar Pride looks to have come out last year on an EP called “5 Lbs of Pressure” but it looks like it was re-released this week as a single. I just read that it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 (well damn) and it also contains a sample of Faith Evans’ “Soon As I Get Home”. On the track he tells his mama don’t worry, because she raised a gangsta, he’s a survivor. This track is a certified bop. Tough Tune.
Gorillaz ft. Bootie Brown & Tame Impala - New Gold: British Band Gorillaz dropped a new album this week called “Cracker Island”. Now I know what you’re thinking, “During Black History Month?” They do have a diverse list of features and the music smacks so stfu. I loved the Bad Bunny collab (that’s prolly alotta ppl’s fave) and the title track with Thundercat really gets the project started off right. My personal favorite (is that an oxymoron?) is “New Gold” with Bootie Brown & Tame Impala. I just checked and this one came out months ago, but fuck y’all I just heard so it stays. Check out “Cracker Island” and these highlights:
Cracker Island (ft. Thundercat)
Baby Queen
Tormenta (ft. Bad Bunny)
Finesse2Tymes - Out of State: Finesse2Tymes has had a helluva run since being released from prison last year. First he was part of a power couple but quickly moved on. Then he just went viral for running off on the plug (actually a barber in AZ who claimed Finesse didn’t pay him for a haircut during Superbowl Weekend. Many people told duke “I mean “finesse” is in his name so…). Anyways he dropped a new track this week. This one samples a classic soul track (which one? Idk cuz) Finesse spits to one of his bitties. He’s a P and he makes his chicks pay for the D. When she eats the D it sounds like she eating noodles. He lets her sit on his face, he beats her back outta place and then he back Out Of State.)
G Herbo ft. Yung Bleu & Murda Beatz - Raining: G Herbo dropped a new loosie with Yung Bleu and producer Murda Beatz. Beat crazy, Bleu handles the hook. Herbo talks to one of his old flames. She moved on and it hurts. He reminisces over her and the good times that they had. Those days are long gone and now it’s just crying in the whip.
Logic ft. C Dot Castro - Lightsabers: Logic dropped a new album this week called “College Park” and it’s an instant classic. From the opening track featuring the RZA, to the skits, to having fucking Redman to come out of hibernation and drop a verse. This album is fucking epic. My favorite track is Lightsabers which I didn’t even know dropped earlier in the week before the album dropped (I usually listen to everything after all the albums drop Thursday night). No need to hype it, you gotta go listen to “College Park” ASAP, front to back. You’re welcome.
R-Mean, YG & Scott Storch - Charles Barkley: California spitter R-Mean (the greatest Armenian Rapper ever) linked with fellow Cali boy YG and megaproducer Scott Storch for a new bop. The beat brazy, YG sets it off, he raps the hook as he proclaims he’ll be old without rings like Charles Barkley (he saying he won’t get married). He’ll never fall for a bittie and he stays with the Glock always. R-Mean be smashing baby mamas and he’s a king in his city. He’s on the rise like the coke prices during the Covid-19 pandemic (facts).
Jidenna - Blush: The Classic Man is back with a new track. He must have wanted to get in on the Valentine’s Day wave. Jidenna sings to one of his shawtys. He makes her scream (in a good way) when they spend quality time. He ain’t afraid to commit. He knows niggas don’t blush no more but for his girl, he’ll cry. He’ll take off his cool for her.
Jozzy - She Asked Me: Jozzy has had one of the best weeks of any artist. From having a Puff-assisted rollout (I’m pretty sure she’s signed to his label) to being featured prominently in the iTunes store, to getting the co-sign on one of the biggest music podcasts (The Joe Budden Podcast) from the man himself, Jozzy has catapulted into our collective consciousness. The name of the new project is “Songs for Women, Free Game for Niggas” (although she abbreviates it “Songs For Women”). Dope project and it’s obvious from the beginning that she's a girl who likes girls. I really vibed to the “Nasty (Interlude)” and my favorite track is “She Asked Me” where a shawty asked Jozzy to touch her like her ex-man never did. It’s a traditional R&B track and it’s dope that the ladies who like ladies got something to scissor to (can I say that? I mean that with all due respect)
BabyTron - Overthinking: BabyTron dropped a new EP this week called “Out On Bond” which references his recent arrest and uses his viral mugshot as the cover (with a funny edit). My favorite track is “Overthinking” which has a downtempo beat that sounds like a 90’s R&B song. Tron lets us know that he’s a globe trotter now. He keeps his shorty dripped in Van Cleef. He loves tripping off shrooms and doesn’t like when fast food workers try to talk slick to him.
Kuttem Reese - Back In: Florida Man Kuttem Reese dropped a new single for all the old hoes that used to talk down on him. And he chose the perfect track to flip, Mike Jones’ “Back Then”. It reminds me of the viral moment this week with Michael B Jordan and his former classmate that clowned him. Back then they didn’t want him, now he hot, they all on him.
Millyz ft. Jadakiss - Moon Roof: It’s bars time! Millyz dropped a new loosie this week with OG Jadakiss. Dope beat, Blanco is cruising, blowing smoke out the Moon Roof, giving us a snapshot of his life (the ups & downs). Jada in the kitchen trying to whip up a gourmet pie. He talks about the homies dying and how we should accept that we can’t bring them back. He’s 100% goon-proof as he’s always toolied up (even when he’s outta the country). Now he’s in the back of the ‘Bach blowing smoke up out the Moon Roof.
Payroll Giovanni - Crib In The Woods: Detroit’s Payroll Giovanni dropped a new project called “Ghost Mode” and he got some heavy hitters for the features including Jeezy and Babyface Ray. My favorite track is “Crib In The Woods” where he describes disappearing from certain shit to get back straight. He knows sometimes you gotta fall back. Sometimes you need some solitude and what better place than a Crib In The Woods.
Raury - Wax: Georgia’s Raury, who rose to fame as a teen sensation, is back with a new track.I love the beat and Raury uses a unique cadence to surf the beat. He raps about smashing young ladies and not talking to opps. No statements, no thoughts. He also uses assonance throughout (the rhyming of a vowel sound). He starts with a short “a” (rap, snap, clap) then a short “o” (stop, drop, shop, opps) then a long “i” (high, kite, ice). He keeps the flow going for the entirety of each verse which is what makes it standout.
Lecrae ft. J Paul The Carpenter - Legacy: Lecrae dropped a deluxe to his most recent album, this version titled “Church Clothes 4: Dry Clean Only”. I loved the new track and especially the D Smoke track. My favorite though is “Legacy” with J Paul The Carpenter. Beat sounds like it was handpicked by Drake. Lecrae talks about his legacy, being a role model for his daughter even though he didn’t have the best role models. He talks about his come up in music and all the artists he toured & collabed with early on. People say he changed but he didn’t switch, he just grew up. J Paul kills the hook, he knows that we can’t please everyone. He asks for forgiveness for his flaws. He knows ain’t nobody perfect, and all he (and all of us) can do, is try.
The Kid Laroi - I Guess It’s Love: Australia’s The Kid Laroi might be dropping a new project soon as this is his 3rd single of the year. He saw a young lady who looked so good he had to say something. He’ll take her out to eat, buy her whips, and when they look at each other, there’s no need to utter a single word, they know that it’s love.
Yeat ft. NBA Youngboy - Shmunk: Cali rapper Yeat dropped a new album this week called “Aftërlyfe”. It’s a super dope project and features Yeat’s signature sound throughout. My favorite track is the YoungBoy collab “Shmunk”. It’s a vibe and Yeat lets us know that he’s about his bread. He's got a blick on his side and he has big money ties. YB is super rich and has many diamonds and a Bugatti. He’s a ladies man but don’t get it twisted, he’ll pull up with the stick and let it hit. Check out “Aftërlyfe” and these standouts:
Bëttr 0ff
Woa…!
Sum 2 do
Bad bënd/DëMON
Type monëy
Syko Bob ft. Kodak Black - My Lil Shit: Syko Bob & Kodak dropped a new track this week. They recently went viral for sharing snacks while sitting courtside at a Suns game (I was at the game btw and the white homie thought Yak was Lil Wayne). “My Lil Shit” finds the guys laying claim to they main damie. That’s they lil whoopty woop and they go hard for her and ride for her.
Tink - Someone On You: Chi-town’s Tink dropped a new project this week called “Thanks 4 Nothing”. The title prolly addresses some ol buster ass nigga that did TInk greasy (I’m just guessing tho…) My favorite track is “Someone On You” which was produced by Hitmaka and samples fellow Chicagoan Twista & Chris Brown’s “Make A Movie”. She addresses her bae. She needs his loyalty now more than ever. She misses him holding her down. Lately he ain’t been giving her the same effort and she suspects there may be someone new.
Lah Pat ft. Flo Milli - Rodeo (Remix): It’s hard to go wrong with a Ginuwine “Pony” sample. When the first part of the instrumental comes through the headphones it just does something to your soul. Lah Pat dropped “Rodeo” months ago, but this week he released the remix with none other than Flo Milli. The track is grown & sexy, it’s one of my favorites of the week and both Pat & Flo show up and show out.
Sada Baby - THE INTERVENTION: Detroit’s Sada Baby dropped a new project this week called “SHONUFF”. 20 tracks of straight slappers. The previously released “KHALIFA MODE” with Wiz has been in heavy rotation in my whip. Of the album cuts, the Lil Yachty collab “OL SKOOL WHOOP” goes super hard. My favorite track is “THE INTERVENTION” where Skuba Steve threatens the opps that they’ll end up dead if they keep on playing. The piano progressions on the beat sounds like the Arctic Monkeys song “Do I Wanna Know” and Ye’s “All Day”.
Kembe X - Rolls Royce Top: I been rocking with Kembe X for years now and I have quite a few of his songs in the Serrato. On this new track “Rolls Royce Top” he implores the fake ass, snake ass niggas to get from around him and his crew. He keeps zips full of that Za and warns anybody that tries to trick him that they gonna get that ammunition. His arms swing when he walks and he’s all business when he talks (swag).
Blac Youngsta - More Than a Man: CMG’s Blacc Youngsta dropped a new project this week called “Bank Appointment''. It might be an homage to the viral moment that brought him onto mainstream media’s radar, when he was arrested for withdrawing a million dollars cash from a bank and the teller was suspicious and thought it was fraudulent. My favorite track is “More Than a Man” (which looks to have came out months ago but I just heard it, sue me). BY been a hustla and his mama raised a killa, More Than a Man. He’s a multi-million dollar nigga and he has lots of land. Before he go out sad bout a bittie, he’ll go home and masturbate.
Soldier Kidd - Thug Like Me: Florida Man Soldier Kidd dropped a new track this week produced by the same producer who did one of my favorite Lil Baby tracks “Get Money”. The track samples “Amazing Grace” and SK uses some of the lyrics as well. A thug like him was lost but now he’s found. He thought he’d never make it out the streets but now he’s thriving.
